up and the commute is wet. you can see how reduced the visibility is to the maze. we talked about this with drizzle which was drying by noon and then the clouds open up with clouds this afternoon and we have a lot of upper 50's to low 60's so we will still stay mild. leyla gulen? >> good morning, everyone, at 5:01 we have a couple of accidents. we have slick road loss we don't see too much rain falling, certainly nothing like this weekend. as we look at san jose northbound along highway 85, solo spinout and another car hit it and now they are blocking the lane into martinez westbound highway four. another crash out there is on the shoulder. to san jose, 101, away from the nimitz, traffic is quiet at the san jose airport.

thank you, laying, marin built was hit hard by the storm and mill valley saw the most severe flooding and damage. people who work and live along old mill creek have had to stack sandbags and use plastic sheets to cover hillside after mountain of earth came tumbling down but it stopped short of any damage. >> understood waters covered roads in this area near an elementary school with flooding more of a nuisance and did not cause too many headaches. the rain was so bad in marin county people were forced to evacuate. rock slides and mudslides closed roads in mount tamalpais and an employee said it was a mess. >> been pretty scary. there have been a lot of slides. our trails have had a lot of

blowouts. there has been flooding in some areas near muir woods so we have tried to evacuate some of the parks. >> the lower will vacation shows streets were flooded. >> the latest power outage number across the bay area after the storm left hundreds in the dark over the weekend. this are 155 customers in the east bay without power, 106 in the south bay, in the north bay 44 customers have no power and 11 on the peninsula. san francisco is not reporting outages. the sierra snow pack which provides a third of the water supply in california has been helped. it was 12 percent of normal for this time. on saturday, it grabbed to 17 percent of normal. water agencies say the rain is the "drop in the bucket," because they need more similar storms to make a real difference >> you can track our storms on

for leaks. >> in the bridge, the water is collecting on the bolt like condensation on your car window but if enough builds it, it will drop, that is what it is. this are not riffs gushing through the inside of the bridge. >> later this morning, engineers will show us the likes and will tell us how they will fix the leaks but they point out everything needs maintenance because no bolting system will prevent the water coming from. the bridge cost $6.4 billion and it is supposed to last well into the next century. happening today, a state lawmaker from the peninsula has new legislation to re-open public access to a popular beach near half moon bay. protesters have complained for two years of the closing of the road leading to hard tin's beach. silicon valley billionaire closed the road when he bought

the property. the legislation from the state senator hill would allow the state to buy the road through eminent domain and re-open it. >> police are warning the public of a phone scam from callers wanting money for unpaid bills with officers receiving support of suspects calling victims stating they are employees from financial agencies that sound legitimate. the callers instruct the victims to wire or send money that is a nonexistent debt. the suspects are targeting non-english speaking residents threatening arrest or deportation if not paid. san francisco city leaders including the mayor will announce a bill to secure the financial future of city college of san francisco aside from the accrued dangerous problem they have money issues. analysis shows huge problems with the bloated payroll department and the inability of finance add minute varieties to make tough decisions. the california state senator is backing the bill.

we saw rain, sprinklings, how about you? how about the rest of you? mike nicco is checking out the weather forecast. >> let us know on twitter and we will pass along the information because it is still going to be a wet commute even if there is no rain falling this is drizzle and moisture. a look at the totals show 8" in santa rosa and napa is nearing 8" with nearly 4" in fairfield and 3" in san francisco and 2" in oakland. san jose has only .25" with rain fade there. 9.15" at the mountain, traveling from the santa cruz mountains so it rained there and as the air descended into the santa clara valley it dried out as it stabilized and that is unfortunate because we could use a lot rain to the south. today, watch out for fog and

drizzle and temperatures are very piled, low-to-mid 50's and as we head to noon we will see dry air mass take over and maybe a few breaks in the clouds mid-to-upper 50's and mostly cloudy this afternoon with mid-to-upper 50's and humid this evening, fog probably will not form until later on. as you drive home or headed out, low-to-mid 50's it will still say or stay very mild. >> we still have drizzle on the roadways and we have a couple of citizens possibly related to wet roads. in san jose, though, we have this problem as you make the drive into saratoga, highway nine at 35 we have a downed tree blocking northbound lane and partly blocking southbound lane and you will start to see the delays in that area hopefully crews can come out there and remove the tree. in san jose, the spinout resulted in a two-car crash and injuries, northbound 85.

covering santa clara, san francisco, east bay and all the bay area this is abc7 news. good morning, tragedy on the highways in two united states cities including southern california. a total of 11 people were killed in two different accidents involving wrongway drivers. in tampa, a car swerved through oncoming traffic and slammed into a car full of college students. the driver and four fraternity brothers were killed. and in son california, a 21-year-old drive inned to the death of six can she was arrested for driving under the influence. authorities say speed was a factsor in a tour bus crash in pennsylvania that injured 20

in 91 years with 15" disrupting transportation systems over the weekend including highways, the bullet trains and flights to and from tokyo. the situation is expected to improve today. severe weather with more ice expected in portland, oregon today, which is expected to bring the city to a crawl. several inches of snow cover much of the city this morning with frozen rain added to the mess and plows try to clear the roads with little success and temperatures will rise in the 40's helping things to stall out and the forecasters predict the ice and snow could melt tomorrow or wednesday. drivers needed a boost to get going along the snow-covered streets of seattle with snow causing big problems in seattle because like san francisco it is a city built on steep hills. atlanta is bracing for another winter storm coming two weeks after city officials were criticized for not being

prepared for the winter weather which paralyzed the city. the first wave of the new storm will happen today into tomorrow with a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain and the second rain moves through tomorrow and wednesday. the georgia governor says the city is prepared. it will spread into tennessee, mississippi and alabama. and the bay area? we got quite a bit of rain but we need a lot more to catch up. >> we will check with mike. >> it is over. the wet weather has moved on. we have a couple more chances through the seven-day forecast but right now it is improving behind me and it is easier to see around san francisco than a little bit ago. we have 2.5 mile visibility in santa rosa and three-quarters of a mile in half moon bay eight miles in santa rosa. watch out for direction el --

headed up to washington and oregon and what eric and kristen talked about that could clip the north bay. it will hit the pacific northwest harder than us and the river is moving on for now. we have had since 1948, i did some research, we had 39 floods in the russian river and 34 of those were created by this river system that is the up over the weekend. it is not an uncommon event but when it comes through it causes issues. upper 50's to low 60's for most of us in the afternoon and tonight we have all the fog and temperatures are in the low-to-upper 40's, ten degrees cooler. a few pockets of drizzle by noon and that is dry by the afternoon we starting to see the clouds open and sunshine to breakthrough. can you see the clouds coming back and that is all the fog that will form. high clouds and sunshine tomorrow. we will move up north for wednesday morning with sprinkles

and drizzle possible in the north bay and scattered light rain in the afternoon on wednesday. it will be very, very light. as the high pressure moves in it pushes the storm track to the north and brings the rest of us milder temperatures and we will be in the mid-to-upper 60's on thursday and in the mid-60's on friday, saturday, can sunday and upper 50's along the coast. >> good morning, everyone, we may have a couple of accidents as a result of the wet conditions and because the ground is saturated. we have trees that are falling down and one of them is along highway nine at skyline boulevard so we do have lanes blocked and it sounds like the tree took out fire lines and we are trying to find out if pg&e has noticed power outages. the altamont pass is busy with areas of green over the mountain areas and the hilly areas an indication of where the drizzle is moving through. that could reach 580 and keep

a few problems around the bay area and the bay bridge toll plaza shows traffic is moving smoothly but we have a problem if san jose and downed trees in saratoga. more on that will set coming up. hayward police are investigating a home invasion that left a suspect dead. investigators say the home owner shot and killed the is suspect who broke into the home on western boulevard, a woman dropped off at a hospital with gunshot wounds may also have been involved. >> the football world is buzzing this morning after a star athlete announced he is gay. >> michael sam, an all american defensive lineman for the missouri tigers will be drafted into the nfl this spring. the 24-year-old will become the first openly gay player. new this morning, kids are still getting their jolt of caffeine but where they are getting it is changed. coffee is now 24 percent of consumption and energy drinks are at 6 percent and soda intake is down the last decade from 62 percent to 38 percent.

a not so smart move gets oklahoma state basketball star success spended for three games. the conference handed down the penalty after the all american player shoved a fan in the closing seconds of the cowboys loss at texas tech on saturday. it is not clear what the fan said but he apologized, his family, and the team for the actions. he will miss games against texas, oak," and baylor but can practice during suspension. >> there is international shock after a decision made by a zoo to kill a two-year old giraffe and feed the remains to lions as visitors watched. the healthy giraffe was put down using a pistol and folks skinned the remains and fed him to the lion residents. the zoo says it was continue to prevent inbreeding and turn down offers from other zoos in a

live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. it is monday morning. thank you for joining us. first up, a check on the weather forecast. the heaviest rain is gone. what do we have now, mike? a lot drizzle. good morning, everyone, the heavy of the rain is over but our commute was tough this morning because of the wetness on the road. here is live doppler 7 hd, if you are tired of the rain we need more. we do node a break in the north bay so we can stop the flooding and mudslides and trees from toppling. there is a lot of moisture hanging in the air and the energy has moved off to the east so you are seeing the western flow of the sierra get rain and in the higher elevations, still some snow but the heaviest of that is over. from the exploritorium you can see how calm it looks account clouds are opening up a little bit with stars there in the upper left side of your screen and we will talk about a day

with drizzle for the morning, dry by noon and even sunshine and you can probably put the umbrellas away in the morning and sunglasses in the afternoon, with temperatures close to average and upper 50's to lower 60. the commute from leyla gulen? >> relief to see the rain but it is nice to know we will not be driving in this rain any longer for the rest of the week. go have a couple of issues possibly due to the sprinkles that are falling, so slick conditions along highway 85, c.h.p. is coming in there to do a traffic break and move cars to the shoulder and spinouts there and everything looks to be off to the shoulder. as we take you to saratoga highway, we are at highway 35 with a tree reportedly downed and the richmond-san rafael bridge traffic is smooth at only 13 minutes in the westbound direction but a high wind advisory for the golden gate bridge and cartinez. the heaviest rain may is

moved from the bay area but there is still traffic troubles for drivers and homeowners. amy? >> look how were rain we got in the north bays check out this creek in mill valley. it is usually dry. not today. the weekend rains filled up and it is moving now. the rain did create some close calls over the weekend including this collapse of a hillside in mill valley that sent some earth tumbling to the home. the home is okay. the flash flood warnings has people keeping a close eye on the creek and some started looking for higher ground. there was water already in the parking lot so i was concerned that maybe there would be water coming from this end and i in the, what should i do, unplug the computers? i did that. i got everything off the floor. >> the not bay was hit the

hardest with a flash flood warnings in place. there is flooding in low lying areas but no major flooding problems reported. the rain was mostly welcomed and celebrated. officials say do not be fooled. it wasn't enough to catch us up. water conservation is still considered important. it was clean up day yesterday for a bar in mill valley. a combination of heavy rain and high tide floods,000 -- high tide forced the 2 a.m. club to close at 1:00 o'clock a.m. a busy intersection that was closed for most of the day if sonoma has now re-opened at highway 121 and highway one meet. unrelenting rain caused flash flooding in low-lying areas.

trees were toll peopled including an 80' tall oak that crashed on to a car and a fence. >> heavy flooding closed muir woods national park. this is the parking lot at the pelican inn where the water made it impossible on go further. the park service says visitors should check to see if the locations are open before heading there today. there was minor flooding along martinez, with cars splashing their way through large puddles, and you can see the storm impact with more water flowing through walnut creek. authorities say rising creeks and canals can be dangerous, more dangerous than many people realized. a stream developed along the path of a hiking trail in berkeley an area that was dry a short time ago. this large tree fell on the avenue with firefighters estimating this tree was 75' talking.

pg&e crews responded because the tree was leaning on power lines. flights should be back on track at sfo after delays caused by the storm. 120 flights were canceled. 300 other flights were delayed. san jose international airport and oakland international reported three canceled flights. >> the storm knocked out power to hundreds. right new there are 155 pg&e customers in the east bay without power. there are 106 in the south bay. there are 44 customers in the dark in the north bay. there are no significant outages in san francisco. investigators are trying to determine if a man found dead in the backyard of a mill valley home wandered away from a weather-related accident. slick roads may have sent an s.u.v. down a hill where it landed upside down before 10:00 a.m. and the marin county search-and-rescue found the vehicle empty but the driver was

where the suspects were shot by the intended victim. last evening in a single family residence on western boulevard near groveway, police found a man dead from gunshot wounds. the person live there said another suspect fled and police dispatch got a call with woman with gun wounds was dropped off at the hospital. a carjacking suspect remains in serious condition after being shot by san jose police following a short chase. police received a call of someone with a gun at 3:00 a.m. yesterday and the man said the suspect took his pants, car keys and his car. the man was shot when he rammed the squad car and extend out of the vehicle of the >> the new eastern span of the bay bridge leaks. crews examined the bridge. rain water is filtering into the

and only quarter of an inch in san jose all suffering badly from rain fade as the winds come over the mountains and descend in the valleys. it stabilizes the atmosphere and dries out. fog and drizzle. mild when you step outside. low-to-mid 50's dry trend by noon and a few breaks in the clouds in the afternoon as we hang out in the mid-to-upper 50's the humidity in the air and ground it will be mild, low-to-mid 50's but fog will form tomorrow the commute. the they day forecast no wet weather tomorrow and partly sunny and 50's at the coast and mid-60's for the rest of us, and same on wednesday with a chance of rain north and that will continue through thursday with a remote chance and temperatures are warmer at low-to-upper 60. quiet right new in san francisco and that is good news.
