this point, they believe no one involved was, or is in danger. in oakland abc7 news. >> all right. thank you. and police are looking for a suspect after a robbery at another safeway about five miles away. this happened about 1:30 near 51 and broadway. police say a man stole a woman's purse, cell phone and took off with one other person in an suv. they crashed into another car about a mile away the suspects continued driving the wrong way and then jumped out of the car and ran to a bart station. one suspect was caught and another is still on the loose. >> now, a follow up on a story first brought you on monday. two days ago a father of five couldn't say enough about officials in san francisco. >> so you're down here? >> very grateful. >> tonight a different feeling towards those in charge. >> now we're like heart broken you know? we bawled our eyes out last

night. >> vic lee is live to explain what is going on. vic talk about a reversal of fortune. >> reporter: the story did take a turn. joel silva says he's grateful to the officers for renting a room for the family. but he says he's now confused and dejected at what happened since. >> right now we're heart broken you know? we've got the kids, bawling our eyes out last night. >> child protective services took custody of joel silva's five kids. they were recipients of a special act of kindness. it was pouring rain and the family had in place to go. all shelters were full, or closed. these four officers found them homeless, penniless they reached into their pockets and rented them a room. >> we just pooled our resources got them wet wipes and basic

baby needs. and went and located a hotel within walking distance >> this weekend police officials contacted city service agencies to get more help after officers and social workers made additional well being checks on the family child protective services removed the children. silva says he didn't sign up fast enough. >> taking custody away because you know we can't make it to everything. you know? just so much we've got to do. so much information being bombarded at us. >> san francisco human services director can't comment on cases, but says in general, kids are placed into care by cps when victims of, or risk of abuse or neglect. simply being homeless and or not accessing public benefits is not a reason to place a child under cps care.

silva and his wife admit they've had drug problems he wonders if that may have been a reason. >> we want to work on it, you know? i want to get into a treatment program and get it fixed. >> well, silva says he's done just that saying he enrolled in a drug rehab program just today. he and his wife will go to court friday for a child custody hearing. vic lee, abc7 news >> thank you. >> a freeway off ramp in richmond should reopen in about an hour, it's been closed after a hazardous materials spill happened in richmond. a truck making a turn when it hit a parked double tanker truck the fuel spilled and some leaked into the storm drain this, is affecting eastbound 580 to hoffman. a driver in a deadly hit and run being identified as a 27-year-old accused of hitting a man about 1:00 this morning at van ness and pacific avenues.
