a person of interest who could explain everything. good evening, everyone. i'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. abc7 news reporter alan w reporg is live at police headquarters with the latest on this strange story. >> dan and carolyn, we believe police are questioning this man at opd headquarters tonight. this incident triggered an amber alert that had everyone in the state looking for a kidnapped child. turns out there was no kidnapping and this was over a few stolen steaks and lobster. police sources told abc7 news that this person of interest has been taken into custody, but they won't say if he is the suspect in the surveillance video. it is believed the man shoplifted from the safe way and then carjacked a man a and a 13-year-old girl. a tip from a citizen lead police to the driver. >> the drive indicated to us during his interview that all of the parties in the car were known to each other.

>> reporter: the driver who has not been identified says the female is actually an adult over 18. police are now looking for he >> it is a true blessing that a child wasn't abducted from this area. >> reporter: the surveillance video shows the suspect stealing lobster and three steaks. he jumped into the backseat of a red sedan armed with a knife. but many people were cep -- were skeptical early on. >> nobody is reporting anybody missing. it doesn't look like there was a struggle for the car. something was going on of the. >> oakland police had to assume the worst. >> it would be negligent and a failure on law enforcement's part if we did not take that information and move it forward in the proper information. proper fashion. >> he is often seen hanging out at this safe way and now police are hoping he can explain what really happened. alan wang, abc7 news. >> four people were injured after a shooting on 37th

avenue and international boulevard. it happened about an hour ago and police are still on the scene as we speak. two men and two women shot. we are told one of the vehicle tim's injuries is life-threatening. the oakland police department's compliance director is out of a job tonight. thomas frasier over saw reforms in the police department. after a year the court determined frasier did not have the authority to make the department more accountable nor could he discipline, demote or remove the police chief. his position will be replaced with a court appointed monitor. a man was found dead after a fire in his apartment building. we have video of the scene after 6:00 tonight. we will get to that in a moment. you can see the shot of the home. the man not identified was badly burned outside the door of his second floor apartment. she smelled the smoke, but she initially didn't think anything of it.

live from san francisco international with that part of the story. ama? >> carolyn, a lot of altered travel plans as 3300 flights were canceled nationwide because of the storm. across the country they were checking for cancellations and delays. at san francisco international there were close to 70 cancellations to and from the storm zone. atlanta and charlotte were hit hard. this flight came in late and managed to make it out. >> it didn't look too terrible for those who were used to snow. it closed down all of the arrivals and consequently our flight wasn't going out. >> she got lucky. instead of going through chicago it was direct to san francisco. she said things were not looking good in charlotte. >> it was snowing and they were expecting ice. they couldn't land planes because it was foggy and snowy. it was not anything that

bothered those folks from michigan, but enough to slow the planes down and make it difficult to land. >> travelers can expect more cancellations and delays tomorrow as the storm now heads toward the northeast. in san francisco, ama dates, abc7 news. >> thanks. google is affected those affected by the storm. they have put together a crisis response map showing where red cross and other shelters are located. it also indicates where weather advisories have been issued. meteorologist sandhya patel is tracking that storm and she is here with live doppler 7hd. sandhya? >> this storm is creating a mess. let me show you live doppler 7hd and i will show what you the storm is doing. it has dumped thick ice across the deep south, now bringing snow up and down the mid-atlantic states. numerous warnings as you can see here. let's show you the first one. it is an ice storm warning for parts of georgia, south carolina and we have winter storm warnings up and down the coast.

healthy population and follows rules imposed by a european zoo association. men in texas are standing up to bullies by getting my little pony tattoo. they are supporting an 11-year-old north carolina boy bullied for saying he likes my little pony, a pop loor -- popular toy and cartoon. that boy was so upset he tried to commit suicide and may have suffered brain damage. they wanted to do something to help the family. >> i read the story and i am a soon to be father. i couldn't help but help the cause. >> the tattoo cost $20 and the money is being donated to the boy's family. san francisco tonight is marking a historic anniversary. tonight city hall and lit up in rainbow colors in honor of the same-sex marriage movement that started right here 10 years ago today. the celebration was held to remember the winter of love when more than 4,000 same sex couples flocked to san francisco to get married at city hall.
