abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> we have break news from the east bay. >> firefighters are still on the scene of a fire in a home claimed the life of a man this morning. laura is at the home in bay point. headquarter a? >> yes, kristen, this is the home, a small home occupied by one gentleman in his 80's. he is the man who passed away this morning. we told he was inside the living room. there are still fire investigators inside this is

more smoke than flames but the smoke that got to this gentleman. they are just mopping up and finishing up their investigation. at this point, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. joining me from contra costa fire, we have a preliminary indication of what happened. >> the preliminary investigation looks like we found combustible materials over a floor furnace and it looks like that may have been the primary cause of the fire inside. >> you thought it was fabric? >> looked like fabric material that dried out and caught fire. >> this happened quickly. by the time you got here this gentleman was overcome. >> we got to the house, pulled out the victim, turned him over to e.m.r. and he was declared deceased. >> that is the latest from here: one man deceased in the home behind me. he is the gentleman in his 80's.

>> thanks. united had a system wide computer outage today that is still having a ripple effect on travel and passengers. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo joins us with this story from de young museum in san francisco. >> we are in the thick of it in the united terminal with a lot luggage piling up and this is the end of it. these folks are probably having a better time than people who were here early this morning but it is not over and a lot of people have a long day ahead of them. system-wide, united still has 516 flights delayed, which is 23 percent of their flights. if you take a look at this departure board in the united terminal we are only seeing a handful of the late aircraft arrival notices but when i talk to the duty manager at sfo he

told me that everything was back to normal and it does not appear that is exactly the case. duty manager telling me united's computer system was down at 5:50 this morning until 6:40, under an hour. i talked with a passenger, a man from san francisco who was in the thick of it and was supposed to leave for rome, talk about a long trip, going for business conference and now he cannot leave until tomorrow. >> the terminal filled up with people, the lines were on top of each other, the agents were not he clipped to deal with this and did not give us information. i stood in line for 3 1/2 hours. >> united e-mailed us a statement this morning that says "we spended intermittent issues with our computer system causing flight delays. with the system now restored we are working to get our customers to their destination and apologize if inconvenience." representative for sfo asked how

often how this happens and how bad it is for the entire airport. he said it is not the first time and certainly not the last time. as for the man trying to get to rome, he says he seriously is considering whether he will fly united again. >> thank, katie. >> developing news in san francisco where pg&e is allowing people back in their homes after a major natural gas leak. >> it sounded like a jet engine there was so much gas coming out. >> that is the owner of the butler restaurant heard when a construction crew punctured a natural gas line and they asked the neighbors to evacuate homes and businesses near 3rd and south park. no one as injured and peg crews managed to shut off the line if less than an hour and everyone has been allowed home. >> we are learning new information about the san lorenzo man shot dead by sheriff deputies in a confrontation last

night. his relatives claims that the deputies did not have to kill him. amy? >> we are hearing two different descriptions of this man. family members say he is a a he is 60-year-old mans who never use did not want to show his face on camera because he is worry of his own safety but he warned to publicly question why deputied killed his uncle. stroke victim. he had medical problems. they didn't need to do that. nothing wrong with a taser, with a rubber bullet. >> deputies say this is why they shot him: he came at them with this baseball bat. >> he hit the sergeant with the bail bat. the sergeant was carrying a patrol rifle and it disabled the

rifle, hit him in his arm as he tried to block the strike of the baseball bat. at that time he transitioned to hid handgun and fired along with another deputy. >> paramedics treating the man called the sheriff last night. >> he assaulted some of the paramedic staff inside the ambulance and ran back in the house. >> deputies know the home, they have been called here 19 times since 2011 for various calls such as domestic abuse. the nephew questions why they went into the home this time. >> he was a good man. very goodman. he would give you the shirt off of his back. he was a big old sweetheart. >> deputy say they needed to check on him because the paramedics thought he should go to the hospital. >> you always want to err on the side of making sure someone is okay. you leave and find out they are not okay, people are criticized.

>> the sheriff tells us you don't reach if a taser when you have to make a split second decision facing a baseball bat. the family's anger is building. and more relatives are here questioning why deputies shot and killed him and they are talking to investigators. the district attorney is handling this investigation. still no sign of two men who led the park police on a high speed chase across golden gate park and into the park. they ran into the presidio after crashing into another car at the toll plaza on monday night. officers tried to stop them after park rangers said one of them was breaking into cars in >> family members of who fallen c.h.p. officers are working out funeral arrangements. officer law and officer gonzalez died when the patrol car flipped over as they were responding to an accident south of fresno year. the c.h.p. memorial foundation says that it is sending each of the family as check for $50,000

to help with expenses. the two officers went to the academy together. officer gonzalez was assigned to the c.h.p. san jose office before transferring to the fresno office in 2010 and officer law was assigned to the c.h.p. oakland office before transferring to fresno last year. the c.h.p. says that the reunited friends patrol together on the grave yard shift for six months. you can express your condolences by sharing this post on facebook.com/abc7. >> a veteran firefighter accused of shocking crimes is expected to make a court appearance today. the 53-year-old is accused of dealing methamphetamine to high school students and will committing sex acts with a minor. he was arrested at the workplace last week and is held without bay at the santa clara county jail. he has worked for the fire department for 20 years and was also a volunteer at a south bay church.

>> a poll this morning shows how expensive it is to live and work in san francisco. the pinch is a top concern for voters. this morning, san francisco chamber of commerce unveiled the results of 2014 dignity health city poll and a thousand people gathered for the event at the marriott. the cost of owning a home is the number one worry for more than a third of san francisco residents compared to 20 percent last year. other concerns are homelessness and represent cost and affordability. >> hundreds in san francisco affected by lying rent are rallying at the state capital at this hour over the bill that allows landlords to evict tenants to if they take the property off the market. they are showing support if a bill that would help build housing for low and middle income residents. >> san francisco muni riders can sound off about a series

proposed fare increases, one proposal raises the single cash fare from $2 to $2.25 and another calls for tripling the cost of riding the "f" line from $2 to $6 and could be forced to pay a dollar premium to ride at peak times. some riders were not happy. >> the unions should be more punctual. if they are punctual i don't mind paying but if they are not punctual it is out rageous f they want to charge, they have to give us good service. >> the public hearing takes police at city hall starting at 1:00 o'clock this afternoon and 50 a second takes place match 4. >> crews are on the scene in oakland at skyline high school making repairs to a gas line rupture that broke out when a contractor was working and ruptured the gas line. school personal was on hand to tell people who didn't get the message, no school until

>> passengers on a united flight that hit severe turbulence landing in montana describe the scene that left them screaming. a flight attendant hit the cabin cerealing so hard she cracked a pane with her head. another called for her baby thrown from the lap. the baby was found unharmed on another seat. 100 were tossed around midair yesterday from denver. the flight attendant is in intensive care. four others have been released from the hospital. we have new details of the hijacking of an ethiopian airlines jet by a pilot. family members say the co-pilot who hijacked the plane was upset about the recent death of his uncle. the plane landed safely in switzerland yesterday with 200 people on board, 11 americans. the flight was headed for italy. the co-pilot locked the captain

out of the cockpit. passengers say the co-pilot threatened to crash the plane if the captain did not stop knocking on the door. a couple with their five-year-old daughter were headed home from ethiopia to indiana. >> we knew there was a lost turbulence, we lot a lot of altitude and yelling over the speaker. put your masks on! >> a terrifying expense for them. the 31-year-old co-pilot was looking for asylum in switzerland could now face up to 20 years if prison for taking hostages. >>the maker of candy crush smartphone game has filed for i.p.o. with the new york stock exchange intending to raise $500 million through selling of shares. they launch on facebook in 2012 and is super popular with women and has been one of the most downloaded free apps on the iphone and google play estimating the value at over $45 per share.

no ice? >> no, no, no ice, maybe some snow in the sierra, however, good morning, everyone, look behind me, you can see a few breaks in the clouds but still, mostly cloudy and mostly gray. our temperatures will be in check. look at what is going on with live doppler 7 hd you can see the best radar returns to the north, portland up to vancouver. haze at half moon bay and everyone else is okay. temperatures are under mostly cloudy sky in san jose and running in the 50's like all of us, you will see a little break in the cloud cover as this is moving to the south. we are in the mid-to-upper 50's in most neighbors to 60 in antioch. that is the warm spot. here is what is happening from the east bay hills, haze along the ground, but, really, no low clouds and that is the key to the forecast: there are no low clouds or moisture to hookup with the front.

after mostly cloudy day today with temperatures close to average, drizzle and sprinkles tonight, and a warming trend on thursday through the weekend. today, we are in the upper 50's to 60's, and interest san francisco, and mid-60's in the rest of our neighbors. the clouds will keep us in the 40's but for richmond and san francisco. a lot is like it was yesterday. as far as what is happening, high pressure putting a roadblock up with the clockwise wind and all the moisture up to the north, we are hacking low clouds so the mid-level clouds and high level clouds could give way to virga and because there is no level employer, scattered like showers overnight. here is how it plays out: clouds at 7:00 tonight, we fast forward to 3:00 in the morning and we have scattered light rain moving through the heart of the north bay and want the front disappear and watch the green, the future radar runs as the front moves through the bay area in the morning rush hour. there is a chance for measurable

rain and by wednesday we have sunshine and breezy at times on wednesday afternoon. most of the rain is falling to the north and notice in the sierra we have a coupleibls of snow coming, not enough, obviously but it is something new. for us, less than .1" across the north bay. tens are the same tomorrow, two to four degrees warmer on friday and 70's away from the coast and behind us, in the 60, with plenty of high clouds and sunshine. not a big deal tonight outside of the north bay i doubt any of us have anything to worry about tomorrow. if you are thinking about partaking in the bay's finer varieties, it is "national drink wine day." according to the drink behind it it is about celebrating the health benefits of wine. >> that is a good excuse. >> i am a
