right. great news. this is great news for california. >> that was the reaction on the news at 9:00 from a california lottery official after learning someone in the bay area picked all five numbers plus the powerball. >> the ticket, the only winning ticket is worth $425 million. the 6th biggest jackpot in lottery history. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama dates in for carolyn johnson. someone just got super rich. >>abc7 news reporter sergio guintana -- quintana is live where the winning ticket was sold. >> that's the jackpot that says it stands at $400 million. as you mentioned, powerball says there has been such a swell of tickets sold today that the actual jackpot is at $425 million.

the winning ticket was sold right out of that machine right there at this station in mill pea dis. since the winning ticket was sold here, the owners of the station will get a $1 million bonus. the clerks here tell us that ticket might have been sold sometime today. unfortunately the california lottery authority says they will not release when exactly a winning ticket is sold. it is tough to verify that claim. i did talk to the clerk who says he believes he might have been the guy who actually sold it. >> i was working for the last 12 hours today. it was a long, busy day. i think so. i'm not sure. >> two other lucky ticket holders in california matched five out of the six numbers. they will get a big, nice, fat check. >> and those two other tickets that did not quite match all of the numbers, those were sold in el segundo and modesto. since the announcement of the

outside dodger stadium after the giants' season opener in 2011. he is now permanently disabled and his family is expected in court tomorrow. abc7 news will have complete coverage from the court. and a shake up at the santa clara county rural metro ambulance company. two dozen employees were fired for apparently getting cpr recertification cards without going through four-hour mandatory training. that's according to the mercury news. a company spokesman says the workmen breached company policy. a union representative says they will appeal. airlines are on alert after there was a warning about a possible terrorist threat. the concern is one be have been warned of before, treyses trying to hide ex-- terrorists trying to hide explosives in shoes. we go to sfo with reaction from travelers and a terrorism expert. cornell? >> the terror threat has no

specific target, but urges airlines to pay attention to flights from ever on seas to the u.s. here at sfo, it is another reminder about life in a post 9/11 world and they are trying not to worry. many international travelers flying in and out of sfo have vacations and business trips on their minds. a warning from the department of homeland security to airlines about a possible shoe bomb threat is a bit scary and poz leg -- puzzling to ruth sampson who is off to sydney. >> there is nothing you can do. you can't inspect people's feet. >> the bulletin did not outline a specific plot and is not related to an earlier alert about the winter olympics about possible devices concealed in toothpaste tubes. in a statement to abc7 news, a spokesman for the department of homeland security says out of an abundance of caution, they share relevant information with domestic and international partners about relevant threat information.

a shoe bomb was one of the reasons for tightening security after 9/11 when passenger richard reid tried to detonate explosives onta shoe from his flight from paris to miami. this demonstration shows how powerful the shoe bombs can be. this terrorism expert has been tracking the threat for days. >> i think there is credence to the fact that the terrorists have not given up and they will use whatever they can use. if they find this is something new they want to try again. >> security screenings involving shoes that have been relaxed for some age groups may be heightened in the days and weeks to come. martinez says he is okay with that. >> if they try to enhance security it is the best for everyone. >> he says it is a small price to pay for safety. and tonight we haven't seen any changes with the security screenings. no increased police presence either. i just talked to a woman who

flew in from london. no noticible changes to security there yet either. we are live at sfo, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> thank you, cornell. a uc berkeley student was arrested after an attack on his roommate who he accused of being gay. he is charged with punching, kicking and choking the roommate as they were walking to the library. campus police called it unusual and say student on student assaults at the school are rare. more than a month after a court battle to keep a 13-year-old girl on a ventilator and feeding tube, she is breaking her silence. she posted a letter on facebook and twitter today thanking the public for their support. the letter did not give any specifics on the 13-year-old's condition. she was taken to an undisclosed location after being declared brain dead at children's hospital oakland following complications from surgery. she says she sees positive changes in her daughter. i can tell you she is much better physically since she

has left children's hospital. i see changes that give me hope, her mother says. a patient accused of using an iv pole to beat a 93-year-old woman at san francisco general hospital. it is a story you saw last night at 11:00. the family of mary perez says she suffered cuts and bruises in friday's attack in the emergency room. you can see these injuries. univision spoke with her daughter and by the time police intervened it was too late. >> they found her bloody. she was bleeding from her head. her body was bruised. her arms were bleeding. >> the suspect is accused of attacking perez when doctors told him he had to be placed in psychiatric care. he had an initial court appearance today and perez is in good condition, but is spending tonight in the hospital under observation. governor brown is proposing a relief effort to deal with the drought.

brown and other democrats want to spend $687 million for emergency water supplies and water conserving technology. it includes funds for housing and food for workers directly affected by the worst drought in state history. >> it is time we learn how to deal with it. we mobilize our money and our people and our ideas and our technologies and most of all our capacity to cooperate. that's what it is about. >> the bill will be expedited. the governor wants the money available within a few weeks. republicans, however, plan to introduce their own legislation that they say addresses the state's long-term water needs. one example of the kind of technology that can conserve our precious water supply is being used to recycle for agriculture and landscape. alan wang is live in martinez where, alan, the sanitary district wants a slice of the governor's emergency funding pie.

that's because the sanitary district wants more of these pipes and sprinkler heads. if it is purple it means it is part of a recycled sewage water system. highly efficient, but expensive to build. there is a reason the grass is so green in san ramon. it is fed by recycled sewage water loaded with nitrates. >> we have what we think is a state-of-the-art recycle facility. >> the dublin san ramon streement plant recycles water for nondrinking purposes like landscaping and fighting fires. last summer it saved almost seven million gallons of drinking water from being used each day. it is highly efficient, but the cost keeps it from expanding. >> we have a lot of projects on the books. it converts the facilities to recycled water. >> now the government's announcement of a $687 million fund to help expand projects like this has envigorated the

foreign minister says he and his counterparts in germany and poland will travel to the ukraine to meet with government and opposition leaders about the deadly clashes. word of the planned visit comes hours after the office of the ukraine's embattled president says he and opposition leaders called for a truth. within the last hour the death toll has risen to 28. the clashes erupted yesterday when the riot police shutdown a protest camp. the unrest began in november when the government rejected a long anticipated deal with the european union in favor of aid from russia. now to developing news in venezuela where five people died during protests. venezuela's president is moving forward with the prosecution with a leading opposition figure on charges related to those deaths. he organized the protests

demanding an end to shortages and protected freedom of speech. he appeared in court today after turning himself in to police. a blockbuster deal to report. phase book is -- facebook is buying the app what's app and the price is higher than any recent tech acquisition. the move is expected to help phase book grow around -- facebook grow around the world. diswhrie are 50 million users around the world. they want the users and they want the information, the contacts and the social graph that what's app has. it is a data play and a potential revenue play. >> what's app is the number one messaging app in europe, brazil and russia. the company is based in mountain view and has just 55 employees. there are demands that miley cyrus' bangerz tour be canceled with some parents

49 in santa rosa. mid40s napa, fairfield, 48 in livermore. emeryville camera, we don't have the fog. high clouds are not showing up. a few high clouds with us overnight. mild day through the weekend. there are hints of rain next wednesday with the weather pattern thursday through the following weekend. occasional high clouds will stream in. the high pressure will keep us dry and it is really going to be dry through early next week. we are looking at changes though. i will talk about that a in a moment. here is a look at the temperature trend for livermore. tomorrow 69 degrees. look at what happens to the numbers. they get in the low 70s and this is where you should be this time of year. average high in livermore is about 62. we will keep you in milder than normal mode right through early next week before the changes uh rie. let's talk about the changes. wednesday, february 26th, i know it is a long ways away, next week in case you are thinking about that, wednesday afternoon evening north bay stands a chance of rain and
