the bart train derailment in the east bay.

the train is dangling off the elevated tracks blocking both directions on the pittsburgh bay poimt line. >> it forced hundreds of commuters to find a different way home and the track may be shutdown through tomorrow night. here is where ithe coppened at the concord station. right now there is month service past the pleasant hill station. >> good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama dates for in for carolyn johnson. >> we will begin with abc7 news reporter live in concord where the train is danglingprecr precar sergio? >> dan, the train has been sitting up there now for four and a half hours. it is not going to be moving anytime soon. i am told it will be leaving the concord station on the other track and it is strad lig both of the rails. they will be bringing in a very large crane and other heavy equipment, but it will take some time. bart says trains will not be running through here at least until sunday.

the bart train derailed after 6:30 at the height of the evening commute. going to and it is going to take a longtime to get trains running through here again? >> they will not have bart service all day tomorrow and through the evening. >> reporter: from sky 7hd you can see how the train came to rest blocking rails in both directions. that's the reason why all trains were stopped between pleasant hill and pittsburgh bay point. a bart spokesperson says the train operator was not injured in the accident. the derailment had special damage. >> there is damage to the track and the third rail and that is going to take -- that's what will take a longtime is repairing the damage to the track and the third rail. >> the train just finished its service day and it didn't have any passengers on board. commuters headed here were surprised to learn why they had to use buses to get to their final destination. >> no. the train went off the rail? >> the tail end is across two

rails. >> it is not yet clear why the train jumped the tracks. and as bart investigates why this accident happened, you see that marker up there? c-57? there were a couple of neighbors came by that said there was another train that derailed in nearly that identical spot three years ago and so they are trying to figure out how this happened again. reporting live in bart, -- at the barred concord station, -- at the bart concord station. >> thank you. hundreds of passengers were forced to take bus shuttles tonight. sky 7hd was overhead as they packed the buses. abc7 news reporter alan wang is at the pleasant hill bart station. >> a lot of confused passengers wandered off at the pleasant hill station after being told it was the end of the line. >> this was not my normal stop. fused about where to

go. >> shortly after the derailment they brought the rest of the passengers home. >> i don't know what i am doing. >> a lot of passengers were unfamiliar with the layout of the station as they try t figure out which bus would get them to the right station. >> trains don't fall off the tracks too often thankfully. >> coming back live you can see the bus taking passengers to the last three stations on the yellow line. it is the concord, the north concord in martinez and the pittsburgh bay point stations. they are coordinating buses from three agencies. they are making decisions on the fly and they seem to be keeping it altogether. there are some feelings of uncertainty tonight, but people are getting home. reporting live from the pleasant hill bart station,

i'm alan wang, abc7 news. >> that's good to hear, alan. a moment ago this is not the first time a bart train derailed in this spot. three years ago a 10-car sfo-bound train came off the tracks outside the concord station. take a look, about 65 passengers were on on board at the time. in this incident, no passengers were on board. there were minor injuries and it will take a full day to hoist them back on the tracks. we will follow this breaking news tonight on air and on-line. you can get the latest developments on on the bart derailment on abc7 news bay area. someone may be trying to poison dogs again in the diamond heights neighborhoods. the sign warns of a familiar danger. last july several dogs were sickened by eating cooked meatballs filled with rat poison. one dog died. now there are reports that

three dogs were sickened the same way near crest line drive where the previous poisonings happened. even neighbors without dogs are concerned. >> that's really terrible. a lot of people have dogs and they take a them out and walk them and it is disgusting. >> police are warning residents with dogs to be extremely careful while walking around the neighborhood. >> tonight there are more victims of a person throwing full water bottles at moving vehicles. six incidents have been confirmed in sonoma county though there may have been 10 total between santa rosa and it includes a fed ex truck and two school buses over the last week. one bus driver was on the way to pick up the special education student yesterday when a water bottle came crashes into -- crashing into her bus. >> it had a long crackdown the back of it. the mirror on the inside came flying out. there was actually no mere left. >> the chp released pictures

of the vehicle taken at the santa rosa transit mall. it is a white tacoma with white stripes. one of the men who beat brian stow nee a coma was -- into a coma was released. he will face a federal weapons charge for firearms and ammunition found in his home. he finished serving time today for attacking stowe, but he could spend 10 more years if convicted on the weapons charge. happening now, the covered california website is off line and will stay that way into tomorrow because of software problems. the website's enrollmenttion han function has been down since wednesday. they have not said exactly what the problem is only that the engineers are working on it. consumers can use the website to shop and compare and cannot enroll on-line. the window for enrollment closes on march 31st. the dalai lama is preparing for a series of talks.

hesitate to report on on the issue of suicide for fear-inspiring copycats. but mental health professionals tell us this is important. a suicide barrier can help prevent these deaths. the numbers are not exact and it is hard to imagine. as many as 2,000 people have died at the golden gate. kim and manuel invited us to walk the golden tbait -- golden gate with them. not to take in the view, but to remember their 18-year-old son kyle who died here last september. >> he was energetic, vibrant, popular. >> they come twice a month to attend the bridge district board meetings to push for suicide prevention barrier. >> time is of the essence for every day, every week and every month more people die by jumping off the golden gate bridge. >> the board members approved the suicide barrier in 2008.

a steel net that will happening below the sidewalk. they refused to fund the project. >> to be quibbling around what agency will provide what portion of the money, i find that very, very upsetting. suicide pushing for the suicidef barrier for more than 20 years. he tells me the bridge district, the metropolitan transportation commission and cal trans can't agree on the amount each will pay for the $66 million project. >> if we had it determined years ago those lives would have been saved. >> there is a funding issue. >> we took the concerns to golden gate bridge general manager. >> is it just a matter of quibbling of who will pay what share? >> right now we are having lots of conversations with lots of funding agencies and we are trying to finalize the conversations for funding plans. >> the families of those who have died are upset that the bridge will be installing a

$26 million bar barrier to prevent head on collisions by the end of the year. one person has been killed in a head on crash on the tbolden gate in the past 15 years. there were four other nonfatal collisions. >> why install the moveable barrier when you have many more people dying because of a lack of a suicide barrier. >> we were fortunate we would get funding for the moveable barrier. >> it shows a record 46 confirmed suicides in 2013. 10 in the month of august alone. >> there is no indication that the numbers will decrease in anyway. >> the author of the bridge's deadly history. more people die on the golden gate than any other structure in the world about one death every 10 days. >> if you stop and think about it, if there were two or three deaths every month from cable car accidents in the city or if a fan fell to their death

the details. >> you need the weather app. it is fantastic. it is not just one storm coming in next wednesday. it is a couple more storms behind it. the scene behind me is serene. it is really, really calm up here. the wind isn't really blowing. this is setting the stage for what is coming in the weekend. just a couple of patches of clouds on live doppler 7hd. here is what it looked like today. record levels in san rafael. oakland and redwood city and san jose and 73 degrees in sivermore. definitely warm by winter's standards. as you look from our tower camera, san francisco out toward the bay and visibility is great. 52 in san francisco and it is 53 in san jose and 46 in half moon bay. we are seeing patchy low clouds. emeryville shoe ug a view of oakland there. here are your numbers upper 40s for santa rosa and fairfield and 50 in napa and

livermore and the view from the exploratorium looking toward the ferry building and it is clear. patchy low clouds and mild days expected this weekend. with the wet pattern setting up next week. it is going to take awhile to get out of town. we need the storms so we'll take them. looking at the high temperatures, just a sampling. compare them to average. santa rosa 69 and it is 7 degrees above normal. 2 degrees higher than san francisco. oakland 66 and 4 degrees warmer than where you should be. san jose at 68. it is 5 degrees above the typical average for february 22nd. high pressure and the strong ridge in command which will provide the mild weather, but not for long. the middle of next week, the first batch of rain arrives on wednesday. a lull on thursday before the second stronger system arrives on friday, and that one looks like it is going to bring us heavier rainfall. as you notice there in the blue, that will continue into

challenges of my own. and mom and i are in for a big surprise. ♪ doing a 10k today. hey! running a 10k with diane and jennifer was a full circle experience just being able to do that with them and them kind of supporting me was right what i needed right at the right time. it definitely touched me, made me tear up a little bit. i've had some ups and downs with personally and just feeling confident and feeling strength. i don't want to cry but some people have been really mean lately and it just is like, i'm just trying the best that i can. i like have different emails where people were mean to me. it hurt so bad. and watch how hard it is for her when she's struggling you know with her own stuff

and weight and i'm kind of mad feel like i need to beat up some people that have been mean to her and i didn't know that, and i'm not happy with it. and i just forget to open my eyes and see and find what inspires me again and being with the girls again today inspires me to keep it going trekking one minute at a time and just have a big confidence that i know that i have within me and just feel good again about myself. i just have to find a way to just really love myself regardless of anything else. tomorrow i'm ready the disneyland half marathon with carmen martinez whose taking on her first race ever. i know she wants to experience what it feels like to physically push herself beyond her limits and the half marathon is representing that for her. game plan for tomorrow is to be there for carmen and to have fun and enjoy and be there to support her.

carmen martinez is a completely different woman than the person we first met. i felt like why did things have to get this far. carmen is a busy mom who takes care of her husband and two kids and wants to make some changes, not only for herself but also for her family. i don't want my kids to grow up and have to go through this. i want to make a change. carmen has wanted to do a half marathon and today she's going for it. its race morning and today we're ready for anything. i'm nervous. nervous? yes. excited but nervous. get you guys ready for the race. i'm excited for her, i'm nervous for her. it's going to be fun and you can totally do it. we have been working on her running time and stuff like that because in disney there is a time limit you have to get there before a certain time. these are your old pros now?
