a very good saturday morning to you all. lots of good news there. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning to you. we have a little bit of moisture in the air allowing for low clouds and fog to visit the shore line. live dopler 7 hd showing that we're not picking up anything in the way of precipitation. that's going to change though in the week ahead. throughout the rest of the day the fog will set up along the coast. that will keep temperatures cool there but plenty of sunshine and dry weather for everyone is on tap today. here's a look at san jose where temperatures in the afternoon will be well into the 60s there, upper 60s, a light breeze, near 70s in some of our inland locations. but the coast will be the coolest today and we're going to

see a stronger on-shore push tomorrow. we've got several systems setting up offshore to bring us a rainy middle of the week. this time next weekend when you are basking in california sun, watch out. you should bring your umbrella. >> thank you, lisa. we continue to follow developing news in the east bay where a bart train derailment is affects riders this morning. we're live at the concord station where repairs are under way. >> reporter: new information this morning. i have heard from bart spokesperson jim allison. he says the first of four bart cars that need to be removed from the tracks has been removed. now, we have been here on the scene for the last hour or so. i can tell you there is normal service from pleasant hill station to san francisco, but east from pleasant hill, bart, they're using a combination of shuttle train and shuttle bus service. work at this station will be an all-day thing.

take a look at some of the video that we shot. bart is once again in the spotlight as they start to investigate what caused this train deporting from this concord station to jump its tracks. this is video of crews lifting and moving that bart derailed train. according to bart the train jumped the track after going over an interlocking and damaged equipment. the bart train derailed just after 6:00 p.m. you can see the passenger car is twisted and jumbled across two sets of tracks and the train's lead car hanging over the edge of the elevated platform. emergency responders arriving at the scene told abc 7 news there were no injuries and that the driver was the only person on the train which was out of service and heading back to the yard when the accident happened. now, the commuter headache riders will have to deal with, the concord north concord and pittsburgh stations are expected to remain closed today. if you are going to san francisco you need to get on at

the pleasant hills station. a shuttle will run between pittsburgh and north concord. i had an opportunity to speak to people who have gathered here trying to take it all in. you'll hear from some of them at 8:30. stay tuned to abc 7 news to learn the latest in the bart derailment hearing concord. nick smith, abc 7 news. >> thanks for keeping on eye on that for us on twitter as well. hundreds of passengers were forced to take buses due to the derailment. allen long has more on the impact to commuters from the pleasant hill bart station. >> reporter: a lot of confused passengers wandered off at the pleasant hills station after being told it was the end of the line. >> this isn't my normal stop so i'm confused about where to go. >> reporter: shortly after the derailment bart began rounding up 23 local buses to get the rest of these passengers home. >> i don't know what i'm doing. >> reporter: a lot of passengers

were unfamiliar with the lateout -- layout of this station as they tried to figure out which bus could get them to the station. >> this one here? >> stand in line with everyone else. >> which one is going to pittsburgh? >> we'll take you the rest of the way to concord. stand by, guys. >> they're doing their best under difficult circumstances. trains don't fall off the tracks too often thankfully. >> reporter: abc 7 news. >> not too often but it does happen. a bart train derailed in the same spot three years ago. it came off the tracks right outside the concord station. you see it here and it looks a lot like last night's derailment. 65 passengers were on board at the time and there were minor injuries. it took nearly a full day to hoist the train back onto the tracks. we will continue to follow this developing story for you this morning on air and online. you can get the very latest developments on the bart derailment right now on twitter @abc 7 news bay area.

someone may be trying to poison dogs again at san francisco's twin peeks and diamond heights neighborhoods. this sign posted last night warnings of the family danger. last july several dogs were sickened by eating cooked meatballs contains rat poison. one dog died. three dogs have recently been sicked near crest line drive where the poisonings happened. even neighbors without dogs are concerned. >> it's really terrible because a lot of people have dogs and they take them out and they walk them, and it's disgusting. >> police are warning residents with dogs to be extremely careful while walking in the neighborhood. there are more victims in the ongoing case of someone throwing full water bottles at moving vehicles. six incidents have been confirmed in simona county. a fedex truck and two school buses have been hit. one bus driver was on her way to

pick up special education students when a water bottle crashed into her bus. >> the mirror on the inside came flying out. there was no mirror left. >> the chp released pictures of the suspected vehicle taken wednesday and last week at the santa rosa mall. it's a late model toyota truck with black stripes. one of the men who beats giants fan brian stoe into a coma was released from jail yesterday morning but was immediately arrested again and will face firearms changes for ammunition found in his home. he could spend ten more years in prison if convicted on the weapons charge. the covered california website remains off line because of software problems. the website's enrollment function has been down since wednesday. covered california officials aren't saying exactly what the problem is, only that their engineers are working on it. consumers can use the website to

stop and compare but they cannot enroll. the window for enrollment closes march 31st. this morning the dalai lama is once again in the bay area. in one of the events he's expected to attend is the blessing of the new community center in richmond. we have the details. >> reporter: the dalai lama is no stranger to the bay area. he arrived to begin a four-day visit. he will address crowds in san francisco, berkeley and santa clara. on sunday he will lead a short, 20-minuteoeú ceremony to bless community center in richmond and consecrate the statues flown in from nepal. there was such to do at the center for the volunteers getting ready for the visit. >> we don't want to be exclusive but embrace other communities to come and enjoy our culture of peace, nonviolence and compassion. >> reporter: this community has grown. in 1990, there were only 12 tibetans living in the bay area.

three patients have died. and according from for the centers for disease control the illnesses are linked to cheese. the cdc it was likely produced by ruse foods in delaware. listeria causes infections in people with week weakened immune systems. flu deaths are rising. state health officials say 35 more people in careful died from the flu last week which means there have been 278 deaths this season. health officials say measles cases are on the upswing, too. 15 so far this year compared to two confirmed cases this time last year. of the 15, one case was in ail ameade da county, one in san mateo and two in contra costa county. one was a berkeley student who may have exposed her riders. a berkeley-based startup is trying to change the way the

the world a little piece of economic recovery in berkeley, jonathan bloom, abcfy,h 7 news apple co-founder steve jobs could appear on a u.s. possessage stamp next year. his name is on a list of approved subjects along with michael jackson, john lennon and elizabeth tailor. that list is subject to change. the new subjects are part of an effort to raise revenue by issuing more stamps of pop culture figures. jobs would be the first person from america's computer industry to be honored on a stamp. new details, a memorial service held monday for a cal football player who died during a team workout earlier this month. the service will be held on the uc berkeley campus on monday night. he was selected to the second team pac 12 squad last fall. university officials say he died

42 in redwood city, 46 with the fog in half moon bay. you'll notice more moisture in the air today. low to mid 40s for santa rosa and napa. fairfield mild by you with 54 and 46 for our friends in the liver more valley and east bay. you can see the fog creeping into the picture your lower right-hand corner. that will allow for the onshore throw to keep the temperatures cooler from ocean beach, and down through montera. if you are headed to the coast it won't be as nice as yesterday. boy, there was a lot of people at our beaches. it's trending cooler today and certainly tomorrowment overall mild days with temperatures well above average this weekend. the wet pattern still on cue to set up on wednesday bringing

even stormier conditions by friday. here's a look at our pacific satellite picture. it's been the same old song and dance and this time even the pacific northwest is high and dry. it will be changing, the storm track will slowly sag to the south and that will allow for a few more high clouds for the days ahead. for the immediate future it means a stronger onshore push. today 60 in monterey. in los angeles low 70s there with mid 50s in the sierra nevada. we're looking at the subtle changes throughout the day today at the coast and by the afternoon more fog and by the evening pretty good. tomorrow afternoon we'll drop the temperatures all the around the bay, anywhere from two to four degrees due to a stronger onshore push. this is what we're all excited about, wednesday, february 26th, we're looking at this first system to bring us light rain around the bay.

then it moves through on thursday, but the stronger system, the second system, is on cue to bring us rain on friday. it should focus a little further south of san francisco. then there is another system for saturday, certainly not as much rain as we had a couple weeks ago but we're looking at maybe a couple of inches. perhaps a few 70s towards the liver more valley and clover dale. the accuweather 7 day forecast shows that today will be the warmest day out of the next seven. monday, tuesday, here comes the rain. wednesday, thursday maybe some showers and friday a more significant wet weather maker. it's looking a little more like winter. abc 7 news is another great news for you to follow.

been going on since the sun came up. >> reporter: they'll continue to work throughout the day. i had a conversation with the spokesperson for bart. he confirmed that two of the four cars that need to be removed have indeed been removed from the track. this will be an all-day operation. we can tell you this, that work at this station will be a thing that they will have to complete before service can be restored. bart is once again in the spotlight as they start to investigate what caused this train departing from this concord station to jump the track. this is new video of crews lifting and moving that derailed bart train. according to bart, the train jumped the track after going over an interlocking and damaging equipment. i had an opportunity to speak with people today who are out, just surprised by everything that they saw happening in their own back yard. >> i have concerns that this is the second time it's happened and these accidents can be dangerous for passengers and the employees of bart. >> bart is saying it's maintenance that needs to be

done. hopefully they use some of those fare increases to improve maintenance. >> reporter: this all started in the thick of the friday evening commute, an empty bart train leafi leaving the station derailed just after 6:00 p.m. it twisted and jumbled across two sets of tracks and the lead car hanging over of the edge of the elevated platform. merge responders said there were no injuries on the track and no injuries to passengers on the train because the only person on the train at the time was the driver of that train. if you are going to san francisco, you need to get on at the pleasant hills station. a shuttle will run between pittsburgh and north concord. this is not the first time that bart has experienced a derailment in this area. it happened back in march of 2011. we, of course, will stay on top of this story. i had an opportunity to speak with jim allison in the next hour or so and we will have, of course, updates on abc 7 news. katie, i'm sorry, my nose is running and i'm falling apart

imported water helps recharge supplies from ponds such as this one, the santa clara county farm bureau says it takes a few years before the impact will be felt. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. fishing enthusiasts in the north bay are going to have to find a new place to gather. the russian river officially closed to fishing yesterday due to an emergency regulation designed to ensure salmon and steel heads have the chance to spawn successfully. the fish are already facing spawning challenges due to low river flows. the ban runs through april 30. tobacco will soon be harder to come by at stanford university. the mercury news reports convenience stores have agreed to the school's request to phase out sales of tobacco products. tobacco sales will stop next month. the move blgds on the university's smoke-free policy which prohibits smoking in classrooms, offices and other

campus facilities. happening today, the ukrainian community will hold a demonstration over the crises in ukraine.$.9 demonstrators are demanding world leaders take real action against ukraine's brutal regime. the parliament has voted to have early presidential elections on may 25. that decision comes hours after embattled president vikt viktor yanukovych made mountainment. protestors are calling for a reversal of the decision to allow google buses to use muni bus stops to pick up employees, saying the buses block the muni vehicles. in recent months protestors have demonstrated against the buses,

saying they have become symbols of the city's growing class divide and san francisco's affordability crises. today's protest gets under way at 10:30 at mission high school. sticking with google, the company is considering a new public wi-fi system for mountain view. the city council on tuesday will consider a proposal to turn downtown mountain view into a public wi-fi hot spot for the next five years. it would serve castro street and evelyn avenue. google has a free citywide wi-fi but analysts say the system is no longer functioning effectively due to changes in technology. a california boy is out to give blind people more independence by letting them shop for groceries on their own. 10-year-old josh goldenberg was born blind. his idea came about during a visit to the supermarket with his parents. he needed to find batteries and noticed there were no signs in braille. his family established the joshua project, a foundation

outlook. we are going to see a return to rain. live doppler 7 hd right now is not showing much except for a little fog around half moon bay where visibility is about a mile and a quarter. san jose has nothing but sunshine and as a result numbers are climbing through the 40s for you and even with the fog it's 48 in half moon bay. san francisco is the mildest at 50 degrees. you may notice it's hazier due to moisture in the air. the onshore push will increase throughout the weekend and that will bring cooler conditions. fairfield the mildest at 54 with 46 in the liver more valley and 41 in santa rosa. so we are looking at a clear golden gate bridge right now. i suspect by the late afternoon hours fog will be filling into the gaps there and we'll look for a cooler coast but mild days overall with temperatures anywhere from about two to eight

degrees above average and the wet pattern gets understand way by the middle of next week, maybe a quarter of an inch wednesday but by next saturday we could see perhaps two inches of rain around the bay. we can certainly not catch up to our deficit of over 15 inches in part of the bay, but it is changing the pattern and that's a plus for us. with double ridge high pressure is going to break down. the high will slide to the east and weaken and that allows for a couple of systems to head our way. 7 2 in sacramento today with more low 70s towards chico and in the 50s in the sierra nevada. these next couple weather makers will bring about 18 inches in the northern sierra and then the next system just as promising if not more snow. if you are heading out throughout the afternoon you'll notice clouds around the coast

happening today, hundreds of people will hit the sand and surf at san francisco's aquatic park. teams of fundraisers will plunge into the chilly waters of the bay as part of the polar plunge. many teams are expected to participate. brave souls. the 5 k kicks off at 9:30. we want to give you an update on the repair work done at the concord station following yesterday's train derailment. crews have removed two of the four cars that went off the tracks yesterday evening. they've brought in large cranes to remove the cranes and repair work on the damaged tracks is expected to last all day. bart's operating shuttle service for people traveling east of the pleasant hill bart station. we will continue to follow this
