look at the repair to fix the track. nick? reporter: good news. it seems as though the workers are on track to meet their goal, that is, opening this concord b.a.r.t. station by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. if you listen closely you can hear a clank, clank, clank, the sound of steel hitting steel. they have been at it nonstop. they believe they can repair the damage done by the derailment friday evening. >> the initial outlook is that it looks pretty good. >> the b.a.r.t. spokesperson says the tracks have been cleared and repairs started. >> we are hoping to have service restored 8:00 a.m. sunday morning. >> crews have been moving 60,000 pounds of steel and fiberglass with cranes like this. this is one of four b.a.r.t. cars damaged in the train derailment. the accident brought b.a.r.t. gm out to see it first hand and

pushes the agency back into the spotlight as they look to find out how the train, with only an engineer aboard, came off the tracks in the first place. >> there's track damage and the cars are damaged so it's a chicken and egg situation, did the damage come from the car or was the track causing the damage to the car? >> the accident folded these cars like pretzels and pulled this one dangerously over the edge of the platform. look at this video from b.a.r.t. you can see the mangled steel and parts of the crushed commuter cars b.a.r.t. says may have been damaged when the train jump evidence its track. this happened in a similar area. >> the same spot of derailment in march 2011. >> in 2011, ten-car san francisco bound train came off the tracks. 65 passengers were onboard and some were injured. the damaged cars will eventually up at b.a.r.t.'s hayward

facility where teams of engineers are equipped to do repairs. >> b.a.r.t. says it's maintenance that needs to be done so hopefully they use the increases to improve the maintenance. >> the train operator made a breathless call to dispatch moments after the train hopped off the tracks. here's are part of what he said. >> emergency, emergency. i'm almost looking over the edge. i got -- making weird noises. i'm stuck in the lead car. i need help. >> looking over the edge. the train was stuck and so were riders from pleasant hill to

pittsburg. they all had to find alternative transportation. sergio quintana has coverage. a lot of frustration? reporter: for nearly the last 4 hours this has been the last train stop on this b.a.r.t. line, and that collection of buses right there has been the shuttle service to check commuters to the concord, north concord, and pittsburg stations, and so far it looks as if passengers are navigating it with no problem. a team of b.a.r.t. employees in bright vests helped direct people to the correct bus when they get off the b.a.r.t. train, and quite a few commuters skipped the bus bridge and drove down do the station. but the improvised system did pose inconveniences for a few riders. >> have to come to pleasant hill to ride b.a.r.t. because it's broke down. i don't know about the switch

but he train derailed. >> i didn't know they had a shuttle. otherwise i wouldn't have inconvenienced her to come here, to pick me up. but she's on her way. she lives in clayton, i have no idea where clayton is. >> most of the riders i talked to say they don't ride b.a.r.t. all that often this weekend, so there isn't too much of a problem. had it not been running into monday, that would have been a bigger deal. b.a.r.t. is now saying they're hoping to get the trains running again tomorrow morning. i also did talk to a few gate agents who say that they are expecting a pretty big rush of passengers that's evening when two events in oakland let out. the warriors' game and a monster truck event, happening at 10:00. reporting live at the -- in walnut creek, abc7 news. >> thank you. we will continue to follow this developing news on care and online. you can get the very latest

redwood city man who police say stole four cell phones from gunpoint from someone he met

we're not going to be seeing any rain in the bay area. here's a look al live doppler 7hd radar satellite. so not until later on this week. we'll have fog in the morning. i'll have more on that in a little bit. it is certainly cooler now as temperatures dropped four degrees in the last half hour. 51 here in san francisco. the embarcadero. 63, livermore, 57 right now in napa. 63, your current temperature in los gatos. 50 on the coast at half moon bay. this is what is going to be happening. this is a look at the fog, increasing overnight and into tomorrow. that's going to give us a gray start to the morning. it will burn off for most people, except for the coast. it's going to remain pretty much imbedded along the coast. everyone else will see mostly sunshine by tomorrow. it will bring cooler temperatures by tomorrow afternoon.

now, what everyone wants to know. the rain is going to hit the north bay starting on wednesday. that's the first system. then it's going to move out. thursday will be dry. and then another area of low pressure will come on friday, brings us plenty of rain as well as very gusty winds. now, here's a timeline, wednesday, by 1:00 p.m., coming through the north bay, san francisco later on in the afternoon, moves out by thursday, and then the second system will come on friday. and saturday will be dry but really windy. here's a look at the highs for tomorrow. mild in gilroy. sunshine in the south bay. 68, san jose, 69, cupertino. 66, san mateo, 63 downtown san francisco. north bay, 67, petaluma. 68, calistoga. in east bay, 55 in berkeley. 66, san leandro.
