at the coast, an 60 degrees. we will have light and variable winds with increasing clouds. leyla gulen? >> the commute is starting off problematic. in daly city we have 280 problem northbound, a crash out there is blocking one lane. we have slow downs as you make it to the southbound direction but this could cause a delay so you need to make it into the city. as we head back over to the altamont pass and toward livermore westbound 580, we have a diesel truck citizen. -- truck accident. there is bumper-to-bumper traffic this morning. to get between tracy and castro valley it will take you 50 minutes so give yourself extra time. >> in san jose, a fire has left one person dead. this is a picture showing the

house which is charred. the flames are out. it is on south willard avenue. firefighters were called after midnight to the scene. flames came from a small structure behind the main house. a person in the home was pronounced dead. firefighters have not said whether the victim was a man or a woman and are working on a cause. matt keller is gathering information at the seen with a report coming up at 5:30. >> calls like this are prompting the hose city council to look at the way firefighters respond to emergencies. two years ago they started a squad car pilot program with a two person vehicle responding to medical calls 94 percent of the total calls are medical. the city needs to realize it no longer has a fire department that responds to medical emergencies but, rather, an emergency medical response department that responds to fires. >> public health researchers are

trying to track the source of a mystery illness affecting children in california including five in the bay area. they are showing symptoms similar to polio. katie marzullo is in the newsroom. >> doctors are looking into 25 cases in all of california with the five confirmed cases in the bay area left five children paralyzed. one is a four-year-old, her left arm is paralyzed. she will probably not regain the use of the arm but they describe the case as "mile." other childrens ages two to 16 are paralyzed in more than one him. it is polio like symptoms, leading to paralysis. researchers suspect it could be a virus but they do not know the cause. >> you can see the kid loves to climb and there are certain things she can not do when she is there. most of the children have not

recovered use of their arm or leg. we want to emphasize this is extremely rare. >> researchers do nut want parents to panic. it is not a widespread outbreak but they want the wore out to doctors so they can alert the california department of health in they see similar cases. the illness has been selected since 2002 when a doctor sought a polio test for a two yield in berkeley the first known victim. polio was eradicated in the united states more than 3 years ago. >> develop news in san francisco, police are trying to figure if they are copying a copycat or the person poisoning dog with meatballs is coming to a new neighbor. amy hollyfield? >> yes, dog owners say they are nervous. they know they have little chance of getting between their dog and the meatball.

look at this picture of what animal care and control found, a picture they give us of the meatballs lined up trying to lure in their victims. this is in san francisco. animal control officials have posted poison warning signs. they say they don't know nor sure the meatballs were poise on but they are telling people to act as if they are. >> if your dog picks something up and consumes it, i would go directly to the veterinarian. >> this is happening a month after meatballs were found near twin peaks and last summer they killed a dog in san francisco. the meatballs were sent to uc davis if debting. -- for testing. no arrests have been made. no suspects have been identified. thank you, amy. it could be a new backlash

against tekkies in san francisco, a woman was taunted and robbed over her google glass eyewear. the "san francisco chronicle" reports she was in a bar on friday wearing the google glass and someone tore it off her face and a suspect said she and her friends were "destroying the city." she chased down the suspect who gave it back but they did get her purse, phone and wallet. google nasa is a small head mounted computer with a screen and camera and is not yet available to the general public. >> a business owner faces charges of master minding a violent attack on a former employee. he was upset over a labor dispute settlement with a worker and tried to hire a hit man to disfigure him. he is in jail on $1.5 million the owner of an enterprise in antioch a plastic and aluminum company. >> santa cruz will hold a public ceremony to remember two

>> the core for left in the last half hour taking the body from the scene. fire and police investigators are still here trying to determine what happened. we want to show you know toes from the san jose fire department showing how big the flames were, when they arrived on the scene at 12:15 this morning. the small home is in the become of the property of another home and it went to a second alarm because of the threat to an apartment complex firefighters found a person dead inside the home. >> we are fought sure on the identity of the individual and the occupants of the house in front of the property said there is a middle aged male that lives there but we are not 100 percent sure that is the individual. >> police are here because it is consider add crime scene until a cause of death is determined. the red cross is help those would live in the home in the front of the property. they are being kept out.

her left arm is paralyzed and doctors say she will probably never regain the use of it. others are paralyzed in more than one him. >> prognosis we have seen is not good. most of the children we have seen have not recovered use of their arm or leg. our suspicion is this is a virus but it is not proven. >> some of the first symptoms were those of a cold. the cases are rare and there is no need to panic. katie marzullo will have more on this story at the top of the hour. >> pet owners if san francisco are on alert as officials test potentially poisonous meatballs found in another neighborhood. the meatballs were spotted sunday in richmond district. the discovery is days after 32 meatballs suspected to be tainted were found hidden in bushes near twin peaks. that is the same area where hundreds of poisonous meatballs were found in the summer. a dog died as a result. others were sickened.
