what can you tell us about the search for the suspect? >> can tell you that following the shooting, the gunman sped off and hopped on the freeway out of san francisco, made his way here to daly city. i'm standing treat from -- feet from where officers spotted the gunman's getaway car. what we gathered from watching officers is that the gunman ditched his car and then ran into neighborhood. police saw the car, and then immediately began an intense search of several neighborhood blocks. there are multiple police agencies part of this ongoing search. residents in the area have to carefully navigate through this very active search area where there are assault weapons and guns drawn. in the last hour, s.w.a.t. teams from the san francisco police department and the san mateo sheriff's department have arrived. it's not clear if the gunman has been located, but i can tell you

there are several swat team on standby right here with guns drawn and as soon as something happens we'll give you updates as they become available. reporting live in daly city, abc7 news. >> thank you. and continuing our team coverage, nick smith is live from florida and 25th street in san francisco, where this all began. nick? reporter: you know the action is still continuing here, as you said the 1300 block of florida street. you can see there are still officers and evidence markers in the area. it started at 3:45 with what chief calls a malicious mischief call. officers located a suspect vehicle and tried to do a traffic stop. one officer, the driver, got out of his police unit and walked up to the suspect car. the chief spoke with us outside of san francisco general hospital. >> we have one witness at the scene who says she heard shots

come from the car. the passenger officer saw the car backing up, fired upon the vehicle, in defense of his partner, striking the vehicle at least one time. >> that officer was hit in the left shoulder, he is in serious but stabling condition. he is a six-year veteran and 28 years old. the second officer was not hit. the suspect vehicle was found in daly city, and according to sfpd it's been processed. the chief would not give a description of the car but did tell abc7 news they now who the registered owner is but the suspect is still on the run. cops have a good idea who they're looking for. i can tell you that police continue to canvass the area. on florida, between 25th and 26th. and we also know that officers may be using surveillance video.

robbers. it happened at discount news and cigarettes on springs road. the man was taking the cigarettes out of his van when three men approached. they took a box of cigarettes and then shot the man in the leg. the men drove away in a dark honda civic type car westbound on springs road. >> some workers in sonoma county say they're sleeping with one eye open after a rash of tests targeting the trucks they drive which are fill with valuable tools. jonathan bloom is live at the petaluma police department where they're investigating. reporter: if you drive one of those big ford commercial vans or trucks with ladder racks or toolboxes on the outside, thieves are cruising neighborhoods looking for that. police say you'll get your truck back but the tools nids will likely be gone. >> the lock was gone and this was still the same. >> workers have no idea how thieves busted the huge padlocks on two of their plumbing trucks

and clean out the tools inside. >> that's six grand, just that orange box. >> the owner says the trucks were taken right out of the employees' driveways in the middle of the night. found ditched nearby with the engines still running. >> our guys are upset because they lost their personal tools, and they're out of work until they're waiting to get the tools back. >> it was a similar story with three vans also solar city in pet resume half. thieves have hit at least 13 ford trucks or vans. police think it's drug related. >> we suspect these are thieves probably trying to take care of the habit, and are stealing basically anything they can to get their next fix. >> there are no fingerprints so they might have worn gloves like the ones employing found on two suspected burglars they arrested. >> one of them had a shaved ford ignition key. it's possible that key may have been used in these theft. >> shaved key could have been used to start the truck. >> they seem to know what anyway were doing. the did take the steering column

rain arrives late sunday, and then after that it will feel like summer because it we be dry and temperatures near 80 degrees, so a big warmup next week. we have to get through the weak cold front on the pacific satellite and it's spreading rain along the north coast, and it's slowly going to push south overnight tonight and tomorrow, and will be with us sunday night, lingering through monday morning. the timing, 6:00 tomorrow morning, maybe asset -- santa rosa, the rest of us see the clouds. gets hung up around ukiah, cloverdale. by 16 sunday night. should start to see some shower activity. the cold front then will make its way towards the golden gate bridge, by 1:00 monday morning, by the 5:00 a.m. commute time on monday, it will be spreading to the south of san jose, and by 10:00 monday morning, it should be out of here.
