good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thank you for joining us on this sunday, march 9th. let's start with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning. plenty of cloud cover. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. live doppler 7 hd. you see the the moisture from our radar here. not all of this is reaching the ground. the cold front is well to the north. you can see off the northern california coast where it is rain around mt. shasta right now. east bay hills camera, mild with concord 57. napa, 55 degrees. anywhere from 9 to 12 degrees warmer than yesterday at this time, well into the low 40s.

we will be looking at a cloudy start. mild temperatures. for the afternoon, despite the cloud cover, upper 60s to the lower 70s for most parts of the bay, except at the coast. we'll be in the mid 60s. the rain does hold off for the bulk of the day except in extreme northern portion of the north bay where you could see a few sprinkles. >> thank you, lisa. breaking news. three people were detained early this morning and now are being questioned following a manhunt tied to the shooting of a san francisco police officer. authorities say they spotted a white sedan connected with the shooting late last night when officers tried to pull the car over in the east bay, the driver took off, leading officers on a chase, spanning several bay area counties that. pursuit ended around 12:30 this morning in san jose. three people were taken into custody. they have not been identified. and this morning, we have audio

of the call made by that san francisco police officer who was wounded. sky 7 hd shows the scene over the mission district where he was shot and seriously injured yesterday. abc 7 news obtained the dramatic 911 call made by the officer. >> officer shot. units in the area. >> 4-6. >> shots in the area. >> 77 florida. >> that officer is out of surgery and recovering this morning. abc 7 news reporter nick smith has more from san francisco general hospital on what led up to yesterday's shooting. >> reporter: a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. when cops got to the 1400 block of florida street they found the car. two officers approached it, one on the driver's side and the other on the passenger side. a witness asking not to be identified described what happened next. >> we were in the house and heard probably five or six shots

and then we heard that a cop had been shot while, we think, pulling somebody over. >> reporter: the first shots fired came from the suspect vehicle. that then made a move to take off. >> the passenger officer saw the car backing up, fired upon the vehicle in defense of his partner, striking the vehicle at least one time. >> reporter: it wasn't immediately clear if the suspect was hit but he did get away. sky 7 hd was over the scene as investigators continued their search from view. you can see handcuffs on the car and what appears to be a bullet hole in the trunk. the officer is identified at this time only as a 28-year-old man and six-year veteran of the police department. the second officer was not hit. our cameras were there as the officer's wife arrived at the emergency entrance. she was greeted by the doctor and several officers before she was quickly escorted inside. nick smith, abc 7 news.

an international effort the is under way to locate a missing malaysia airlines plane with 239 people on board. that boeing 737 wide body jet disappeared on radar on a flight from kuala lumpur to beijing. terrorism has not been ruled out. counterterrorism organizations have been in contact about possible passport issues. n ntsb and fbi are ready to send agents to investigate if necessary. the search area has been expanded in case the plane turned back. abc chuck severson has the latest. >> reporter: between malaysia and vietnam. no signs of wreckage or debris from malaysia airlines flight 370. >> we have not been able to locate anything, to see anything. therefore, there's nothing new

to report. >> no radio call. no may day, nothing. >> it never happens. an airplane does just not drop out of the sky. >> reporter: no maintenance issues and a good safety record. there are theories on what went wrong, but no claims of terrorism. two passengers in the plane were traveling with stolen passports. finding the black boxes may uncover the mystery. >> flight data recorder and cockpit recorder. >> reporter: majority of the passengers were chinese, three americans, two children of chinese parents and an adult, philip wood, ibm executive from texas who worked in malaysia. families were gathered in a hotel room, frustrated and desperate for information. this mother, whose 40-year-old son was on board said i don't want to live. what is the point of me being alive? in kuala lumpur, it was much of

the same. the race is on to find the 757 and solve this mystery. 20 of its employees were on board that missing jet. sky 7 hd video of the freescale conductor company offices in san jose. among the employees were 12 people from malaysia, 8 from china. in a statement the company says the entire freescale semi conductor community is deeply saddened by this news. the company is continuing to monitor the situation. new details. investigators say a firefighter lied about the circumstances surrounding the death of a teenager run over and killed by a san francisco fire department rig following the crash of an aseana airlines flight at sfo. san francisco chronicle says she claims her big rig did not run over the 15-year-old, contradict

video shown in helmet cam footage. she told police she could not have hit the victim because she saw the tarp-covered girl on the ground. however, investigators say camera footage shows a firefighter is seen placing a tarp on the girl after deckert's rig hit the girl on the ground. her rig is one of two that hit the girl, investigators say. when a man was hit by a car. he died at the scene. it's not clear why he was on the freeway. police say the car that hit him did stop. the driver is cooperating with investigator investigators. police say it does not appear alcohol and drugs played a role. the freeway was shut down for several hours but has since reopened. oakland police are investigating a hit and run that killed a mother of five. felicia ward was near the

intersection of 98th avenue and plymouth street yesterday morning when she was hit. sky 7 hd video of the intersection where ward died. her husband was seriously injured and is hospitalized. police are now asking witnesses to come forward. a celebration of life will be held today for an off-duty firefighter killed in a tractor accident. police say tony nunez was driving a tractor on ranch land in unincorporated contra costa last month. nunez was pinned beneath that tractor, worked for the berkeley fire department for 28 years. sart moany celebrating his life will be held at noon at uc berkeley. thieves in sonoma county are targeting work trucks. thieves have their eyes on ford trucks or vans like these at a plumbing company. 13 have been hit. thieves take company trucks from

francisco's ukrainian community will hold a rally over the continuing crisis in ukraine, calling for the continued u.s. support of an independent, democratic ukraine. activists say the security of the u.s. and its european allies is bolstered by the expansion of democracy and economic stability in ukraine. that rally will be held at 2:00 this afternoon at justin herman plaza. a walk across the nation kicked off yesterday at the golden gate bridge in support of a global day of recognition for women. the international women's day bridge walk began yesterday morning. activist helene swanson received a blessing before starting her walk to washington, d.c. she expects to arrive at the nation's capital in a year. there, she'll speak in an equal rights amendment rally and take full demands for equality to the white house. >> it's time to change. i also would like to see the

9 to 12 degrees milder, due to warmer air being pushed into the bay out ahead of this cold front that will sweep through the area overnight tonight. cloudy skies north of the north bay, you can see a chance of showers. that's up by clear lake. overall, we're staying dry today. showers push on through tonight through early tomorrow morning and then temperatures really warm the rest of the week. starting out with very gusty winds monday into tuesday. a look at our satellite picture with high pressure pushing off to the south of us, allowing for this cold front to slide to the south. it's going to weaken considerably as it does so. so, here is the timing on it. 11:00 tonight, notice it's still to the north of us. as we go through the overnight hours, 3:00 in the morning, we're wet in the north bay over into contra costa county, alameda. about 5:00, the morning commute, you'll see some showers wrapping up in the south bay. they're really falling apart as it pushes through santa cruz and

monterey. with trace amounts throughout the santa clara valley to a half inch in the furthest hills of the north bay. overall, one to two-tenths around the bay. temperatures were the cloud cover, notice still very mild with upper 60s sunday street, san francisco, 68. oakland with a southwest wind will be in the 70s from fremont to san jose. 73 in morgan hill. accuweather seven-day forecast, looking at temperatures still mild with mid and upper 60s to the lower 70s for the most part. and tomorrow, morning showers. tuesday, some very breezy winds. winds will pick up by tuesday afternoon and those winds going offshore. east bay hills looking at gusty winds. take a look at these temperatures. not only are we looking at clear conditions, but we're looking at much, much milder air. we'll call it warm with no rain in sight. abc 7 news is another great weather resource for to you

welcome back, everyone. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen up on the roof deck. good morning. >> good morning, carolyn. starting off with cloudy and mild conditions. a few sprinkles overnight. live doppler 7 hd showing some of the green. the southern portion of the bay. it's not reaching the ground. we are looking at the cold front still hung up well to the north of us. so we do have a little bit of shower activity up toward willis, ukiah, ft. bragg and sprinkles well into north bay. overall we're looking for an evening and overnight event. 59 right now in san francisco and san jose. 68 oakland. redwood city, you are in the mid 40s.

55 half moon bay. the rest of the day today will feature cloudy skies, mild temperatures with the numbers in the low to mid to even upper 60s at the coast. upper 60s to the lower 70s around the bay and inland. once again, very mild. in fact, look for these temperatures to stay mild all week long. we'll just add in stronger high pressure and plenty of sunshine. that's a hint to what the next seven days will feature. we'll time out the rain in a few minutes. carolyn? >> thank you, lisa. federal food safety official says the deception stemming from owners of a petaluma slaughter house could mean a recall of every piece of meat it processed. shutting down last month after an investigation showed it processed diseased animals. nearly nine million pounds of meat have been recalled. according to the santa rosa press democrat, one local rancher stands to lose $300,000 of his meat processed by rancho if declared unfit.

growing firestorm over a proposal to ban a very popular traction at sea world. now sea world is responding. here is abc reporter. >> reporter: the main attraction, the killer whales. california lawmaker is proposing a bill to ban the use of those orcas in future shows. released in the controversial documentary "black fish," which focuses on the death of a trainer at sea world killed in 2010 by an orca associated with two other deaths. every 1:00, 3:00, 5:00 show is a human construct that's put on these wild animals and actually stresses them out. >> reporter: in a statement to abc news, sea world says the premise behind this proposed legislation is severely flawed

on multiple levels and its validity is highly questionable. sea world goes on to say, quote, we are deeply committed to the health and well-being of all of our animals and killer whales are no exception. if passed, the law would only affect performances at its san diego facility. the company would still offer shows in orlando and san antonio. kentucky senator rand paul has won the conservative political action conference presidential preference poll. paul captured an overwhelming 31% of yesterday's vote. the win is purely symbolic, but reflects the senator's popularity among republican conservatives. senator ted kroourz finished second followed by ben carson and new jersey governor chris christie. none of them has formally entered the 2016 race yet. the delicate balancing act over the future of lake tahoe is

about to play out in court. facing off against the agency that regulates development at tahoe. each side is claiming it's the one protecting the lake. here is abc 7 news anchor dan ashley. >> reporter: lake tahoe remains an environmental treasure in an area hit hard by economic progress. the economy here was driven by casinos. the competition for indian gaming changed everything. >> we saw our economy go into free fall even before the great recession hit. >> reporter: businesses shut down. big construction project went bankrupt and sat unfinished for six years. plans to redevelop aging hotels and casinos struggled to get financing. >> we lost population. >> reporter: now there is cautious optimism in the business community that the worst may be over. >> our feeling is that things are definitely on the way back. >> that abandoned construction project is under way again and two large developments may be going up soon.

one will turn the home wood ski area into a high-end village and resort, the other at edgewood golf course. the deal requires edgewood to open some of its spectacular beach to the public. >> basically where you're looking at that pier area down to one more, this is where the public beach will be. >> many tahoe business owners are excited about the flurry of activity. a coalition of environmental groups are worried and they are suing to stop a new regional plan that streamlines regulations for future development. >> this regional plan was aimed total thely at economic conditions. and ignored the environmental conditions. >> the sierra club believes the new plan allows too much dense development and hurts the environment. >> they have not addressed the water quality properly. they have not addressed air quality properly. >> planning officials say all building projects must include major environmental benefits and

they will actually improve lake tahoe. >> we have one of the most unique growth management systems in the united states. we cap development, the number of homes. we cap the number of hotel units. >> if you want to build something in tahoe, you have to demolish something else and restore the environment. that's what's happening at this spot where an old motel was torn down. in return, the edgewood project gets to build new units at the new location. they were also required to make other environmental improvements. >> we were doing our part to make these improvements. at end of the day, it's going to protect the lake. we'll have an opportunity to run what we hope say successful business and that everybody wins. >> reporter: planning officials believe their new rules keep a good balance between business and the environment, but the sierra club says the scale is tipping too far. >> they would like to see people committed to protecting the lake and able to set aside their driving economic forces and live
