the north coast. a 6.9 earthquake hit about 50 miles off the coast near eureka at about 10:18. there are no reports of damage or injuries, but residents in eureka felt a strong jolt when the quake hit. there is no tsunami warning. good evening. i'm ama dates. turning now to the weather, more rain is moving into the bay area tonight. you can see it north of us right now on live doppler 7hd. this is the live look outside right now from our explore exploratorium camera. it is dry at the moment, but rain is on the way. now let's head to leigh glaser. we will actually check in with her in a few minutes to have the latest on our weather. you can track the latest using live doppler 7hd on our abc7

news weather app. you can download it from our website, abc7news.com/app. well, we are learning more about the police officer shot in san francisco yesterday. officer adam shaw is a six-year veteran with the department. abc7 news cameras caught the arrest of the suspect, 50-year-old jeffrey morano overnight. he is in police custody, but he has not been charged with shooting and injurying the officer. sergio is live from sf general hospital and has the latest. sergio? >> we talked with the police chief earlier today at general hospital. he said the injured officer is recovering well and will likely be interviewed tonight and possibly tomorrow. they can get an idea as to what happened and they can decide if they are going to file more charges in this case. this is video you will only

see on abc7 news. 50 yeeferld -- 50-year-old jeffrey yelling because his handcuffs were too tight. he was taken into custody after being on the run for nearly 12 hours. he was arrested in connection to a shooting in the mission of officer adam shaw. for much of the day he kept close tabs on shaw's progress at san francisco general hospital. >> we got really lucky on this one. >> this is the the first radio call from the shooting scene. >> from sky 7hd you can see what looks like a bullet hole in the police car. the suspect sped off and ditched the car in this neighborhood. >> police from across the peninsula scouring the area and calling two s.w.a.t teams. they recovered a get away car with a bullet in the driver's side fnlt.

the suspect was gone until the highway patrol spotted him in the east bay and he lead them on a chase that ended at this gas station in san jose. jeffrey is in jail facing a charge of using his car in an assault, but right now he is not charged with shooting officer shaw. >> we will talk with the victim officer to find out if indeed he saw the suspect with a gun because we don't have a gun at this time. >> reporter: abc7 news. >> a collision on 880 in oakland killed one person and snarled traffic for several hours. it happened after 3:00. one person died and another was injured and taken to the hospital. abc7 news sent us this photo of the scene shortly after accident. a fall entry is to blame for a deadly accident on interstate 80 in vacaville this afternoon. chp officers say a car crashed into this tree when it fell into the far right lane of westbound traffic near the cherry glen road exit around

1:45. one person did die and traffic slowed for a couple hours as the crews cleared the tree from the freeway. >> new at 11:00, a bizarre home invasion results in the arrest of three people. it happened around 8:40 and police tell us the couple was arguing about finances. the girl called people who came into the house. there was a fight, then the suspects drove off. they were caught a short distance away on tyrone street. two days after -- two days after malaysia airlines disappeared with 239 on board authorities look at what happened. so far nothing has been found to be part of the missing plane. we have also learned that the two tickets bought using stolen passports were son purchased two days -- were only purchased two days before the flight. chuck see -- sievertson has

let me take you up where the rain has been falling heavily all night all the way over toward lake county. this band of rain is in association with a weak cold front that is sliding south. it will bring the bay area rain. we will check out the timing and see if it will meet a wet monday morning commute in a little bit. ama? >> thank you, leigh. a surfer in marin county was rescued from a rocky area at rodeo beach. a chp helicopter was called in to save the 40-year-old. it shows rescue swimmers near the surfer. the helicopter was needed because a coast guard boat couldn't get near the surfer because of the rocks and dangerous waves. the surfer was taken for treatment. east bay mud has a warning for customers. it is concerned that someone could pose as a fake employee as one of the trucks was stolen. lilian kim has the story. >> it is bizarre. >> residents of this quiet neighborhood has no clue as to who stole an east bay mud

maintenance truck on thursday. the you till says they look like the hundreds of others in the fleet. a 2008 ford f-250. it contained $5,000 worth of tools and an east bay mud hard hat and work badge. the concern is they will pose as an east bay employee. >> our crews won't be asking to come inside unless it is a pre scheduled visit. if you feel anything is suspicious call us or dial 9-1-1 if you feel threatened. >> neighbors are shaken by the whole thing. they say the crews have been working in their neighborhood since october and have grown to feel comfortable. >> i had the door open and now that it can be someone fake we have to be more cautious. >> it appears who ever has stolen the truck hasn't gone too far. they have spotted it on saturday .

it was gone by the time police arrived. east bay mud is asking for the public's help to help locate the truck and the person who stole it. the license plate number is 128-5077. that's 1285077. anyone with information is urged to call police or east bay mud. lilian kim, abc7 news. family and friends joined in a celebration of the life of a berkeley firefighter. he died last month when a tractor rolled on to him. a giant american flag was draped in front of hoss pavilion on the uc berkeley campus. he was a graduate of san jose state and a 28-year veteran of the berkeley fire department. tonight russian president vladimir few pin says -- putin says next saturday's referendum followed international law. putin made the statement to european leaders as forces scuffled in the ukraine.

overnight tonight and then eventually stretch over the rest of the bay area. you can see where that cold front is right up along crescent city and all of this is moving very slowly south. it will eventually get here. it looks like it is just in time for the monday morning commute. you can see the temperatures are in the low 60s and the upper 50s across the bay area. half moon bay, 55 degrees. this shot here is showing you a little bounce in the camera. napa 58 and 60 in fairfield. as we go to our cam, a little wiggle there as the winds out of the southwest ahead of the cold front are starting to pick up a bit. we'll go with breezy with rain overnight developing. morning showers. afternoon clearing. then this thing will move through rapidly. after that, warming trend for the end of our workweek. here is on look at our pacific satellite and there is the cold front very week. as we get to the leading edge

of this, probably 2:00, 3:00 in the morning you may hear a little moderate rain. let's put our forecast into motion. you can see at 11:00, live doppler 7hd is pretty much spot on in terms of where the rain is falling by 3:00 a.m. it should start to sag toward santa rosa and 5:00 a.m. in time for the commute time much of marine county and also the south bay and the east bay locations starting to see the effects of the rain. most of the east bay and south bay will pick up the moisture. once we get on the backside the wind will pick up and we will feel the temperatures come down a few more degrees than where we were today. how much rainfall? maybe a an inch in the north bay mountains and most areas less than a quarter of an inch. loy -- lows tonight, upper 40s and low 50s as the rain advances in the bay area. tomorrow morning, morning showers and afternoon clearing

i'm ama dates. in tonight's headlines, a powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of eureka at 10:18. they fount a strong jolt. they said there is no word of damage or injuries. there are no signs of a tsunami. a man is in custody in connection with the shooting of a san francisco police officer. he took police on a four-county chase. so far he has only been charged with using his car as an assault weapon. chp officers say this tree lead to the death of a driver on interstate 80. a car crashed into the tree when it fell into westbound traffic near the cherry glen road exit. and east bay residents are

being warned to ask for identification if an employee comes to your door. a company truck was stolen on thursday along with the truck the thief got away with an official employee badge. thousands of japanese are marking the third anniversary of the fukushima nuclear disaster reactor with protests. it is one of many that have happened since the march 11th, 2011 disaster. and now a top scientist says radiation is about to reach the west coast. abc news reporter cecilia vega who returned to fukushima has the forecast. >> in a matter of weeks, radiation a from japan's nuclear melt town will make its way to the shores. trace of radio active materials have already landed in canada's gulf of alaska area. now new models show that it will hit north seattle by next month and then move down the west coast.

tonight. and definitely it will be sticking around for our monday morning commute. if if you are traveling elsewhere, 71 in atlanta and most of the country is dry. denver 67. showers at great falls. southern california should see some sunshine, 86 for palm springs. once the rain moves through overnight, they will clear out as well. tomorrow will be our coldest day . morning showers and afternoon clearing and then look at the warm up. thursday, friday and saturday and sunday the temperatures inland in the midto upper 80s by next sunday and 80 around the bay and close to 70 degrees next sunday at the coast. we are going to get some rain tonight and maybe the north bay an inch and south bay is less than a quarter of an inch. at this point we will take as much as we can. >> we sure will. thank you, leigh. >> time for another check on sports with shu. you have been teasing the hair product theming.
