live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. several suspicious fires in fremont overnight leave a school scrambling to find a place to have students who were dropped off for day care. >> good morning, thanks for joining us. >> arson investigators are looking into three fires at two different campuses this morning, all breaking out off of fernald at warms spring elementary and warm springs park. matt keller is in fremont with the latest on the story. >> disappoint for the warm springs little colleague, a brand new shed was destroyed by

flames. it is not the first time a suspicious fire took place here. >> fremont firefighters didn't know it but the fire was just the beginning of a busy morning. the call came in at 2:40 and a fire alarm at the elementary went off where firefighters found flames burning away on the outside building and then smoke was coming from warm springs park, the woman's bathroom was damaged by fire and smoke and blocked off. all three fires were a quarter of a mile from each other. >> if they continue to start fires they usually have a strong interest and they could graduate to something more severe than what we have now. >> fire caused serious damage to ymca at the elementary school with 60 students taking part in before and after school program which now is moved to the

multipurpose room on the campus. >> this is where the little kids come to play. it is scary. >> the little league celebrated opening day over the weekend with a new scorekeeper shed because the old one was destroyed by another fire over christmas break and was just rebuilt for the new season. one parent could not understand why someone would do this again. >> i can't understand who doesn't like this program. i don't understand. my mind...some people are very sick. >> a parent said an emergency meet has been scheduled for tonight and she doesn't believe any games will be impacted because of the fire. a wounded san francisco police officer could be well enough to talk to investigators soon after being shot in the shoulder this weekend during a high speed chase through several cities. our news reporter joins us from san francisco general with more on that story.

nick? >> two minutes off, the chief suhr walked in and he said he was going to talk to officer shaw and hopefully he can tell investigators how everything went down. this is video that you will see only on abc7 news: the arrest of 50-year-old jeffrey ruano taken into custody after a multicounty pursuit on sunday morning. the chase reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour. jeffrey ruano was accused of trying to hit two officers in the mission with the car, and ruano allegedly shot san francisco police officer shaa at 26 and florida sheet while trying to evade the officers on a traffic stop on saturday afternoon. officer shaw was rushed to san francisco general with non-life threatening injuries and massive search was launched for the suspect. according to chief suhr, the

veteran is doing well. >> they moved the officer from icu in very, very good spirits. he stood up and moved to a wheelchair. police say multiple shots were fired at the scene with one bullet heading officer shaw in the last am telling us the first shots came from the car being driven by ruano. officer shaw's partner began the officer will give a full account as soon as he is medically able to do so. right now, jeffrey ruano has been charged with using the car as an assault weapon and he is not charged at this time with shooting the officer. he is expected to make the first court appearance this week. in a few moments, the chief suhr will be out with more information from him later today on abc7news.com.

>> the northern coast of california is getting after shocks after a powerful 6.9 earthquake struck. the earthquake was reported at 10:18 and centered 50 miles off the coast of eureka. this is how it looked on the graph: people felt the we shaking in several bay area cities and oregon to the north and san diego to the south. there are no reports of injuries or damage and the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami warning. so far, 24 after shocks have been reported. >> a lawmaker is introducing legislation that would force legal trick -- electric utilities to benefit up security in the event of an attack. in san jose an attack knocked out 17 transformers in april. someone cut the cables in a vault and snipers fired on the site for 20 minutes. a state senator wants utilities to develop plans to deal with

security breaches, restore power faster, and better coordinate with local law enforcement. >> a stolen municipal utility truck was located in castro valley, the ford pickup was stolen on thursday, and police were worried whoever took it could pose at a utility worker to gain access to homes. no word, yet, if the truck thief has been caught. >> in petaluma, police are looking for this man believed a drive through thief driving up to mcdonald's at 2:00 this morning and opened the register and grabbed $200. workers at the shopping center were closing up when that happened. police hope that someone will recognize this picture and call the miss. >> former oakland city manager santana may not be off the certify's payroll. after she was removed she was offered a job as a paid consultant. she left after months of applying for jobs in other cities and clashing publicly

with the mayor quan. officials offered a package that would bar santana from talking publicly a about her time at city hall but she refused to sign it. later, city hall outside her the consultant job. she said she will consider it as long as she has no contact with the mayor. >> united states intelligence whistleblower edward snowden maded first appearance on camera since leaving the united states and taking refuge in russia. edward snowden spoke by video link at the interactive festival in austin. the contractor is accused of liking thousands of classified documents. today he participated in a discussion on surveillance, online privacy and the n.s.a. program's impact on the spy aging. >> i believe and i believe the majority of the thinking is that the government has the ability to deprive you of what?

>> a man is shedded to prison after a shootout with c.h.p. officers four years ago. the jury found the 48-year-old williams guilty on all charges including attempted murder. this happened in oakland on highway 580 in july of 2010. williams wore a bullet-proof vest on a mission to kill when he opened fire on officers. he now faces life in prison for the attempted murder of three c.h.p. officers. >> officials in malaysia are expanding the search for a missing passenger plane after another false lead turned up no sign of the missing jetliner. malaysia airlines flight mh370 vanished on friday.

officials say results show an oil slick in the south china sea did not contain jet fuel. a possible yellow life raft spotted in the gulf of mexico of thailand was trash. officials say crews will search a much wider area, including waters north of the indonesia island of sumatra, hundreds of miles from the last reported position. >> we hear from the father of sandy hook elementary school shooter, adam lanza saying he believes his son would have killed him, too, if given the chance. authorities say the 20-year old gunman shot his mother, nancy, four times, before he went on the deadly rampage at the connecticut school. peter lanza said his son smoke with many mental health professionals but no one saw violent tendencies in the personality. >> investigators today are returning to the scene of a stage collapse that injured 25 students at anaheim high school.

this video shows what happened. it looks terrifying, the wooden stage gave way in the middle of the show on saturday. 250 students were on the stage at the time. investigators are trying to figure if the performance competed the weight restrictions. a prayer service was held in support of the injured students. >> a woman is waiting to learn if a finger will have to be amputated after nearly being bitten off during a fight over a...mall parking spot. she was in a confrontation with another woman who stole her spot in front of the nordstrom in new jersey. the fight turned violent and knight found the woman biting into her finger, right to the bone. >> suddenly i must have been pushing the other person arm, the initial attacker, and she bit on my finger and proceeded to chomp. >> the other woman got away but police releaseed this

emergency crews are responding to the refinery in martinez after two workers were sprayed with acid that happened at 10:40 this morning. we don't have any word of the extent of their injuries. this is the second time in less than a month the two workers have been injured by as said at the refinery. those workers were air lifted to the burn center if sacramento with first- or second-degree burns. we will continue to cover this for you on twitter@abcnews. now the campaign against the word "bossy." the most successful women believe the use of the word could hold young girls back. billionaire and facebook chief operating officer is behind this movement and abc7 news reporter has the story the. >> raise your hand if anyone calls you bossy? >> bossy is used. >> the time. so do parents and etch tears.

here you go, the clouds are hanging on in the south bay but the next couple of hour us will get the dry breezes in san francisco and through the rest of the bay area. the rain is moving through fresno and headed to bishop and falling apart. wasn't a lot with it and it will not hang on for the rest of the day. temperatures are anywhere from the same in the north bay to nine degrees cooler than at this time yesterday and most of us were mild in the upper 50's to low 60's and novato was behind at 56. this is how it looked in lake tahoe completely different than just a couple 6 hours ago with a tweet at 9:00 where the snow was coming down sideways with big fat flakes and now you have to have on sunscreen and the sunglasses. it will be private and warm. san jose is clearing with the clouds opening and that is the trend moving forward. mostly sunny. not so warm today. we hit 81 yesterday in san jose. 69 today.

nice, though, building warm build and dry the rest of the week with record highs this week. you can hear the winds we at the higher elevation like mount tamalpais and concord is 69 today and everyone else is anywhere from four degrees cooler in san francisco and santa rosa to 12 in san jose. we will get 11 hours and 44 minutes of sunshine today and push the temperatures in the low-to-mid 60's along the coast and mid-to-upper 60's along the bay and inland with fairfield and livermore making a run at 70 today. tonight, at five- to ten-degrees cooler and no blanket of clouds do keep us warm, upper 30's in napa and santa rosa and 42 in palo alto and everyone else in the mid-to-upper 40's and 50 in san francisco. here is the front, rolling through, and it is gone, down to our south, and it will keep moving away from us, new air mass, dry air mass, rolling in and check out this yeah of high pressure: it is back. look what it does for our seven-day forecast. we are above average tomorrow. we are in the mid-to-upper 70's
