demolition has just begun on the north side of an apartment building that burned yesterday in the mission bay neighborhood. sky 7 is live over the scene. you can see it's starting to take the building apart piece by piece. firefighters are also still pouring water on various hot spots. crews have been at the apartment project nearly 24 hours now. good afternoon, everybody. >> the investigation into what caused that fire is now underway. take a look. we have a side by side comparison for you to show you what the fire looked like.

and here on the right you can see charred remains. >> one day after the fire started still a dangerous scene here. firefighters dousing hot spots and on 4th street an excavator just arrived. sky 7 hd has the best view of that. they're knocking it inward, we're told. this as the investigation continues. 24 hours later firefighters are pouring water on this burned out shell of a building, still smoldering inside. danger is still high.

>> given the amount of fire damage and water being applied it weakens it further. >> because of the threat streets around the building remain closed and neighbors in apartment buildings can't go home. >> the blaze consumed this apartment complex under construction. smoke and flames could be seen across the bay area. 150 firefighters spot this fire into the night. chunks of the building crumbled the mayor credits the water system. >> if it wasn't there, we could have seen the worst fear is that the would jump over to this building in front of. >> how it started is still a mystery. >> there is some

for now, going inside is too risky. . >> i doubt they'll be able to preserve the area. >> the building was under construction. a sprinkler system had not been installed the fire department may look into making that one of the first things to be done in every new building. >> crews have been working to keep water used to fight the fire from getting into the bay. mission bay has a separate system for each. >> our combined part goes into the treatment plants. then goes into the bay. >> that means that water with soot, ash and chemicals will head straight into the bay. workers have been pfrping water into the sewer line so that that

number of units the building consisted mostly of high end apartments >> half of the san francisco fire department battled this blaze coming up at 5:00 you'll hear from some of the firefighters up on the ladders right at the front line. >> firefighters wait to see if mb 36 does collapse, two buildings did come down believed to be caused by a gas leak. rescue workers have not been able to search for victims. the explosion shook the east harlem neighborhood, damaging several buildings. neighbors reported feeling this up to seven blocks away. you heard the boom, then it rocked the apartment. >> this is a tranl diof the worst kind. there is no indication in time to save people. >> one tenant says residents

complained in recent weeks about a gas odor. the gas company said it had not heard of the issues until just before the blast. >> officials on hunt for a most-wanted terrorism suspect. >> agents searching the big island for daniel andreas san diego afterçó they conducted experiments in 2003 this, is the second alert that the fbi issued for san diego. >> today was the first court appearance involved in a traffic stop. the 50-year-old is charged with assault on a police officer but not for the shooting. >> he is accused of trying to ram the officer with his car.
