investigating the fatal shooting of a mendocino sheriff deputy kills when a suspect turned his rifle on him. this started with a carjacking in eugene, oregon, yesterday or and ended in the delegate of deputy north of fort bragg. the 32-year-old cheney of eugene, oregon, sprayed the deputy's patrol car with bullets. a fort bragg police officer exchanged gunfire with cheney who ran into the woods prompting an all-out manhunt. his body was found dead from multiple wounds suffered during the gun battle. the deputy grew up in napa and a football and wrestling star in the early 1980's. we express our condolences to family, and friends and colleagues to the deputy on our face book page and you can share your thoughts with them, as well on facebook. >> there was a whom invasion

the c.h.p. is investigating the facility shooting of a mendocino county sheriff deputy who died in a hail of bullets when a suspect turned his assault rifle on him ending north of for the -- of fort bragg. the suspect ambushed the deputy and opened fire. the fort bragg police officer exchanged bun fire with cheney and caused an all out manhunt. he was found later in the afternoon and died from wounds suffered during the gun battle. the deputy was a football and wrestling star at napa high school in the unanimous 80's and grew up in napa. the governor issued a statement saying he and his wife were saddened to learn that the deputy died and says and i quote, "the deputy was killed upholding the oath he swore to
