>> and i'm reena ninan in for diana perez. the search for malaysian airlines flight 370 is nearly into its second week. >> this morning an international fleet of planes are again focusing on a southern section of the indian ocean, a glimmer of hope surfaced more than 24 hours ago with a grainy satellite image that could show the plane's debris. a search overnight found nothing in the area. >> bad weather and the extreme remote location is making the hunt for answers more difficult. abc's tahman bradley has the very latest. >> reporter: u.s. and australian search planes again descended on a remote part of the southern indian ocean about 1500 miles off the australian coast. they're looking for these objects thought to be debris from flight 370. it's a daunting task. >> it's about the most inaccessible spot as you can imagine on the face of the earth. if there is anything down there, we will find it. we owe it to the families of those people to do no less. >> reporter: parts of the indian ocean are more than two miles

deep or 14 empire state buildings piled end to end of the today the teams took advantage of better weather after battling clouds and rain on thursday. >> we can relate to the crew of flight 370 and passengers and crew being a fellow aircrew so we will go out and continue searching as long as required. >> reporter: for the families and friends of the 239 people on board, the wait is agonizing. >> i believe that philip is still alive and if that is parts of the plane then that kind of dashes that hope. >> reporter: this morning new questions about why it took so long to move the search into the southern indian ocean, a satellite company tells abc news back on march 9th it had an initial idea that the search should move south. the malaysians were given the data but it took them several days to refocus the search. more ships and planes headed to the southern indian ocean including three chinese warships and an ice breaker. reena and john.

>> tahman bradley following the latest developments on flight 370. thank you. all right. the search area is closer to antarctica than australia. >> abc's nikki battiste has been in perth and filed this report moments ago. >> reporter: the search continues here today and the focus still those two objects that were seen by satellites floating on the indian ocean but in the last 24 hours the weather hasn't been ideal, the crew of the p8 poseidon told us they ran into clouds and precipitation and for two to three hours they were over the search area they flew as low as 300 feet just to get better visibility. today, five aircraft and two merchant ships are looking for those two unidentified objects. and we just learned china is sending three warships to join the search. despite not finding any sign of the missing malaysian flight the u.s. navy crew told us they're still hopeful. they just want to find some closure for the families of the missing passengers. john and reena. >> all right, nikki, thank you. critics of malaysian 240r9s

are outraged by news that officials waited days before shifting that search to the current location. >> a british satellite company provided them with information showing the plane probably crashed thousands of miles from where the search was taking place. but malaysian authorities waited three days before redirecting the search. >> it's unbelievable, i mean it's just such an egregious slipup in the investigation, i can't believe it especially when you're searching for aircraft and possible survivors. as soon as they had that data they should have notified the australians or notified somebody to start looking in that area. all the time that's passed, even if there's not survivors, the wreckage has floated greatly away from where it was. it makes things more complex. >> the satellite company working on blips it suspected sent by flight 370 was one of the first to propose a now familiar north and south arc where the plane may have headed after dropping out of communication. stay with us for any new

information on the mystery of flight 370. we'll have live team coverage coming up on "good morning america." well, a diplomatic battle over crimea is getting personal. president obama has expanded the list of sanctions against russians to include several people close to russian president vladimir putin. mr. obama also laid the groundwork for more targeting their financial services, energy, mining, engineering and defense industries. >> these sanctions would not only have a significant impact on the russian economy, but could also be disruptive to the global economy. >> in retaliation russia banned nine u.s. officials from entering their country including senate majority leader harry reid and speaker john boehner, all said they were proud to be included on the list. senator john mccain went a step further and laughed at being included tweeting "i guess this means my spring break in siberia is off. my gazprom stock is lost and my secret bank account in moscow is frozen."

of california is now experiencing drought. and almost a quarter of the state has extreme drought conditions. forecasters say not much relief is in sight. with the state's expected to have above normal temperatures through the spring. the drought is being blamed for steep food price increases. all right, let's talk about the weather across the nation. mostly dry in the west. although some snow is possible in the northern plains. as much as half a foot of snow is on the way for the upper midwest bordering canada, some rain and snow around the great lakes. highs will only be in the 20s and 30s in the northern rockies today but in the upper 70s and 80s across the desert. southwest nebraska to ohio will see temperatures in the 60s and 70s and about the same for most of the south. it'll be cooler in the northeast. uncle sam raising a red flag. there is a new tax scam that some are calling the biggest ever seen. what you need to look out for. and the sneaky teen on an all-out investigation under way to uncover how a thrill seeker got past security guards making it to the top of the world trade center.

"divergent" is expected to take in at least $55 million in ticket sales. it's about a young woman in the future who doesn't fit into specific categories. she's divergent. the target audience is also young women. and you won't be seeing this spokesperson again.

this morning a flood watch for residents along the grand river in michigan. ice jams are causing rapid fluctuations in the river's levels. much of this ice is now moving down the river bringing the threat of flooding and residents may not get much notice. roads near grand rapids and the great lakes could be slippery today including interstate 96, 94 and 90. for the west along interstate 90, heavy snow can make driving tough. the storm even dips down as far south as interstate 80 near cheyenne, wyoming. now if you're flying we don't expect any major airport delays today. updating you now on the latest in the search for missing malaysia airlines flight 370, u.s., australian and new zealand aircraft are over the search area right now looking for debris. >> now also heading to that search area, the chinese have announced they are sending three naval vessel, an ice breaker and several military aircraft to aid in the search. searchers overnight turned up nothing. stormy weather and harsh seas today have made the already

jose avenue. >> the club has a smoky atmosphere. the fire started in a storage area in the back of the building. workers noticed it as they closed at 1:45. they tried to put it out with extinguishers. they called firefighters and the firefighters called a first alarm. the fire -- they had to make sure it did not spread. >> fires grow double their size every five hints and we need to get enough resources in place from the beginning. >> the damage from the inside shows fire efforts to put it out made a mess if the back of the building and firefighter could not determine the cause. arson coming out to try to figure out what started the fire. it could be a few days before the owners can on the
