live from the kgo tv broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. we're under attack, there is no question about it. another security breach, your personal information targeted by thieves but this time it is at a place most adults use, the dmv. now millions of credit card numbers could be in the wrong hands, good evening, thank you for joining us. law enforcement authorities alerted the dmv about the potential breach. and now a warning is out to anyone with a driver's license or registered vehicle in california. abc 7 news reporter lillian kim is live at the dmv in san francisco. lillian? >> reporter: it is unclear how extensive it is, but most of the people at risk are customers who made payments on line between

august 32nd and january 1st. it appears some targeted the customers at the dmv. the dmv is providing few details only say that the department of motor vehicles is alerting the authorities about a potential issue with the credit card services. the cyber guys are out there looking for data they can sell and re-sell. a spokesperson says she is not surprised the hackers would target something like the government dmv. >> a break-in like this would get you good data, home addresses, real data associated with government documents. >> reporter: the dmv says it is performing a review of its systems and will alert customers immediately if they find any issues. but in the meantime, customers are encouraged to monitor their

statements for any issues. >> if they work for the state, basically for the government. >> hopefully you know, everything gets resolved soon because it is not good having everyone's personal information out there. >> reporter: this potential breach could involve millions of people in california. as of january, they reported 32 licensed drivers and vehicle owners. this new breach comes just days after the breach at usf. officials say the personal information of nearly 10,000 people could be compromised from the school's medical center. so far there is no evidence anybody tried to use the information. and breaking news, firefighters are trying to knock down a fire in southern california breaking out just after 10:00 at a recycling plant in pomona, about 130 miles east of l.a. you can see the firefighters blasting it with water, and

there is also a crew blasting it on ground. no injuries reported nor a reason the fire started. and tonight, we know more about the man killed by a police officer after a popular park. abc reporter lisa amin has more. >> reporter: ama, we know the man who lived in the area was not armed with a handgun as police say but rather with a taser. >> didn't like the fact i saw the guy with the gun but he was not threatening at least to me. he was eating. >> reporter: but some of his neighbors did feel threatened and called police when they saw the armed man who now was identified as 28-year-old allejandro nieto, who they say was mentally ill. the authorities approached him, he then raised his weapon at

them. >> it appeared he drew the weapon and officers responded and shot him. >> probably five seconds of gunfire, like really erratic. like pop, pop, pop. >> some nearby residents say they heard as many as 16 gunshots go off. but those who come to the park regularly still can't believe the level of violence that erupted here last night. >> quite scary, that someone is carrying a gun in the park in the neighborhood that we live. and that he was shot and killed. >> i'm up here with my 8 week old daughter whenever i'm here. it is definitely scary. >> reporter: to try to ease fears, the police chief plans to hold a community meeting next week. and i did ask about the matter that he was armed with a taser, not a handgun. but they refused to comment. and san jose police are searching for a gunman who shot

next few days before our next chance of seeing rain next week, we'll have a look at the forecast coming up. search and rescue operations continue in washington state where a massive landslide has killed at least three and injured six others, the massive landslide is blocking the river which is expected to cause flooding. coming up we'll have more on the deadly landslide and what police are telling residents. it is already sunday in australia where search planes are back in the sky, saying that a new satellite image released from china is offering new hope that the wreckage could be in the indian ocean. more on the story. >> reporter: as the search for flight 370 enters a third week, enter another possible lead. >> the chinese invested their satellite image, floating off the coast. they're sending ships to verify. >> reporter: the hazy image seems to show a large object, 73

feet by 72 feet, on the indian ocean, taken 75 miles south of where these other objects were captured. they there is a massive search, a problem, there were days between the pictures were taken and when they're released. >> what objects were there are likely to move a significant distance as a result of currents and winds. it is also likely they just drifted to the ocean bed. >> which likely explains why a third day of searching resulted in failure. the search fleet of planes and ships will press on even with a typhoon nearby. >> that can scatter wreckage pretty fast. >> reporter: the lost time happenings most heavily on the families of the missing. >> we are here waiting for days, we want to know what happened.

impacted. one was hospitalized with serious injuries, and the other died. california department of justice officials seized 176 pounds of crystal meth worth more than a million dollars. agents believe the meth was smuggled into the country from mexico as a liquid. new at 11:00, three female elephants escaped from a circus. someone in a car took pictures with a cell phone, the first shot shows the parking lot and something big in the distance. we have highlighted the elephants in this picture. the elephants ran in the city of st. charles. >> we saw the people running, thinking oh, my god, they're escaping. >> i called my husband, i said hon, the elephants are running, he is like get in the car! >> no one was injured but as you can see several cars were

damaged. and the annual oakland running festival kicking off tomorrow morning. this is where the race will start at 19th and harrison street, 10,000 people are expected for the fifth annual run through the city. runners from 31 states and around the world will participate. in addition to the marathon, there is also a 10 k and a half marathon. the marathon covers much of the ci city. road closures begin at 6:00 a.m., and the roads are expected to open by 2:15. >> and new at 11:00, ronald mcdonald wanted to host for sick kids, ronald mcdonald house helps for people who are treated at stanford. right now the house is full with 47 families, the nonprofit wants to expand facilities to host 120 families at a time. >> ronald mcdonald helps

between august 1st and january 1st. now to the deadly landslide in the pacific northwest, three people were killed, at least six others injured in a massive landslide that took down everything in its path in washington. >> reporter: the wall of mud, trees and debris came crashes down just before 11 a.m. saturday. estimated to be a mile long, it blocked route state 530 near the town of oso, just north of seattle. >> there was a car behind with a truck and boat. that is when i saw it washing everything off the road. i'm not sure if the truck made it through. >> reporter: at least six homes were destroyed, three people were killed and at least half a dozen others including a 6 month-old infant were taken to local hospitals. search crews are looking for other possible victims. >> we're busy trying to sift
