you heard it here. ginger is going to have the latest. >> we begin with the search for the missing plane. they're now calling this the most incredible lead. 48 hours after the prime minister declared all 239 lost, planes race to this area. we're going to go to abc's david kerley. good morning to you. >> good morning, josh. could this be the break the searchers are looking for. as the malaysians say this is the most credible lead so far. this shows 122 items, some as big as 75 feet long and some of the areas other satellites saw, too. a french satellite snapped these three days ago.

>> some form of object. it is confirmed to be mh 370 and then we can move onto next stage. >> reporter: while these satellites see something, none of the ships on the water have been able to find debris. on one of those search flights today, abc's clayton sandell. >> we're in the search area, in the region where satellites spotted debris. >> reporter: searchers are racing against the clock. the pingers on the black boxes, if they are working, have another 11 days of battery life and then the ticking sound will fade. while the u.s. navy has flown in subs mirrorsible equipment, they won't be on the water for days. why aren't submarines involved? >> they have computers on board, sensitive capabilities. >> reporter: the u.s. navy says it needs debris to track back to

a smaller location to even start listening to pingers. >> we're racing against the clock, racing against that battery running out on those tankers. >> it sounds like we're getting closer and closer to the debris area which is west of where we think the path was of this aircraft. even once we find the debris, the hard part comes below this flight path. that's where we have to search underwater. way tougher than looking for debris on the surface. josh and robin? >> of course we'll have updates all morning long as they become available. now to more trouble for the secret service. three members of an elite unit responsible for protecting president obama overseas have been sent home for drinking hours before going on duty. abc's jonathan karl traveling with the president and joins us this morning. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, robin. these were three members of the secret service's assault team. they were allegedly so drunk that one of them passed out in

the hallway of the president's hotel. this happened two days before the president got here. the secret service says that the president's security was never compromised. ever since that scandal involving prostitutes and secret service agents in columbia, they have zero tolerance policy for alcohol. that's why these three agents were sent home. >> they don't want this trouble again with the agency. jon, you were with the president as well yesterday and you asked him a question that's generating a lot of attention this morning. let's take a look. >> in the light of recent developments, do you think mitt romney had a point when he said that russia is america's biggest geopolitical foe and if not russia, who? >> russia is a regional power that is threatening some of its immediate neighbors. not out of strength but out of

to florida. we're going to head to ginger zee with it all. >> it snowed on spring. that's the best way to visualize it. let's go back to that shot that was crazy out of chatham, massachusetts, that wind blowing 30 to 40 miles per hour, sustained. we'll see gusts in the 60, possibly 80 mile per hour today. even if you're not getting the snow you will get the wind. from philadelphia to atlantic city and new york city you won't see the snow but you have gusts up to 50 miles per hour. this is not just this morning. we have to go out west because the big headline out there, that mudslide, this is going to hamper a lot of the efforts. look at that heavy rain through saturday, six inches or more in parts of southwest oregon. >> that rain you were just referring to is going to make

the recovery effort from that mudslide even harder. at least 24 confirmed dead. that number expected to rise as dozens are unaccounted for. >> reporter: firefighters say the force of the slide was like a mud tsunami. >> it's something very personal such as a whole group of little toys that belonged to some little child today sit not guilty a basket. that was a killer. >> reporter: officials recovered two more bodies tuesday and located another 8 that they haven't been able to free yet, bringing the death toll to 24. >> it's slow going. it's not like -- it can take you five minutes to walk 40 feet. then you've got nails sticking out of the ground and things that can hurt you. >> reporter: the search now entering its fifth day almost impossibly difficult, rescue teams facing quicksand like mud. >> they're literally getting

stuck sometimes up to their waist. >> reporter: searchers pinging cell phones, anything to help them find them under a mountain of trees and debris. even with cameras and sonar, they say search dogs have been the most effective. >> we were out there for about six hours, waist deep in mud, digging through debris. >> reporter: some of those who didn't make it, a veteran navy commander. linda mcpherson, a former librarian and a dental office manager and mother. three in a growing list, part of a community that still hasn't come to grips with their loss. >> reporter: as you can see they're expecting yet another bad day of weather out here today which is really slowing things down. rescue teams say they are determined to not give up until they find everyone, but that may take quite a while. robin? >> thank you. we're going to turn now to a remarkable rescue and it was all caught on camera.

a houston construction worker trapped with nowhere to go. flames ungolfing this apartment complex. all around him, he tries climbing off the balcony and ends up dangling. john muller is here with the story. >> you heard the expression close call, it doesn't get closer than this. that construction worker defying flames and certain death and he got an assist from houston's bravest. >> oh, my god! oh, no, my god! >> the video is jaw dropping. watch again as this wall of fire comes crumbling down, barely missing a construction worker and a firefighter. moments earlier the construction worker seemed doomed, dangling off a fifth floor balcony edge at the luxury apartment complex he was working on erupt into a five alarm fire. he drops to the balcony below

only to lose his footing. >> when we saw his foot slip we thought he was going to be gone. >> reporter: the man was reportedly about to jump when captain hawthorne emerged on that ladder. that collapse, the final fiery obstacle the duo was escaping in the nick of time before both men made it to safety. it took 200 firefighters to contain the blaze, the cause still under investigation. incredibly, nobody was hurt. >> just amazing. this morning all the construction workers who went into that building are safe and accounted for. fire officials are looking into reports that flames started on a roof where welding was taking place but the investigation continues. >> in this job we see a lot of close calls. none closer than that. that's remarkable. >> thanks for bringing that. >> you get. we're going to turn now to

amy with a look at today's stop stories. >> we begin with the white house giving people more time to sign up for obamacare. anyone who begins an application before the march 31 deadline will now be allowed to finish it. the white house predicts a crush of applicants in the final hours could cause a computer traffic jam. a problem in space for an american astronaut and two russians on board a rocket that blasted off tuesday but their docking on the international space station has been delayed because of a failed engine burn. they are not in danger. the coast guard is now conducting surprise inspections of cruise ships. most ships are registered? foreign countries but they cannot board passengers in the u.s. unless they pass inspection. in connecticut, a speeding car careened off a highway exit ramp and crashed right into this gas station plowing into five other cars and barely missing

the pumps. four people were injured including that driver who now faces dui charges. one of the biggest stars in college sports found himself in the middle of this huge brawl. heisman trophy winner quarterback jameis winston who is also a relief pitcher had to be held back by security officers. three players were ejected in that game. facebook is betting that virtual reality is here to stay. it is now paying 2 billion dollars to buy oculus, a company that makes a headset that creates a virtual world for users. actual human contact. $2 billion. finally, speaking of facebook who created this reunion. a young woman abandoned at a

burg king when she was a baby, met her birth mother. she posted this facebook request for help in finding her birth mom. that picture was shared 30,000 times and guess what, it caught the attention of her birth mom. katherine herself, the mother of three boys, says the resemblance was so strong it was like looking in the mirror. she described the experience of pure joy. her mom wants to remain private because of all the media attention. she said it was better than anything she could have imagined. he mom asked for forgiveness. she was just 17. she said i'll happily give it to you. >> this is what a followup is all about. now to a terrifying accident out in idaho, two b.a.s.e. jumpers and their parachutes tangled. somehow they survived. >> reporter: this morning dramatic images after a b.a.s.e.

jump goes wrong. these men seen here on instagram and facebook miraculously surviving a 486-foot fall from idaho's bridge. police say he got tangled and the two young men apparently plummeting, hitting the ground, rescue crews rushing to help. >> they landed in a marshy area between the bank or the shore line and the water. >> reporter: air lifted to the hospital monday morning, raw taken there by boat and ground. both young men suffering serious injuries. police say it is legal for b.a.s.e. jumpers to use this bridge, but take a look at this video taken at the bridge last month showing just how quickly things can go wrong. these two jumpers get tangled up on the way do you think, helplessly fighting to regain control. luckily for them they landed in the water. >> in this particular spot there is not a lot of room for error.

if the chute doesn't open, they're a little over 4.5 seconds from bridge to water. >> reporter: thrill seekers like this tend to like those off limit and illegal spots. we saw it this week. b.a.s.e. jumpers released video throwing themselves off one world trade center in new york last september. nobody was hurt there, but at utah's zion national park, three b.a.s.e. jumpers died in the last two months alone. the third body recovered just this tuesday. for "good morning america" gio benitez, abc news, new york. >> thank you for that. we turn now to a colorado 9-year-old who shaved her head as an act of solidarity for the friend who's battling cancer. her school's reaction? to ban her from the classroom for violating their dress code. that obviously sparked a wave of

outrage. >> reporter: they are best friends who do everything together so when she lost her hair to cancer -- >> i got treatment called chemotherapy and it makes it fall out. >> reporter: cameron ren fro decided to shave hers off, too. >> since she was my best friend, i decided to shave my share because i didn't want her to be the only one. >> reporter: but this little girl paid a big price for her bold move. >> i couldn't go to school because of my shaved head. i wanted to share my story but they didn't let me. >> reporter: cameron's colorado school has a dress code in place that says shaved heads are not permitted in order to cut down on distractions and promote safety and uniformity. >> initially i was furious but we respect the dress code. we just didn't agree with it. >> reporter: cameron's mom took

previously spotted debris. a dozen planes and five ships are now searching the waters today in hopes of tracking down that debris. but so far nothing has been found. and back in this country, 24 people are now confirmed dead after that massive mudslide in washington state. the mud so thick, eight of the victims have yet to be recovered, and dozens of other people remain unaccounted for. bulldozers are digging up twisted cars and shredded homes and, unfortunately, more rain is coming down today slowing that rescue effort. and new trouble for the secret service. three members of president obama's security detail in amsterdam have been sent home for intoxication. one agent was found passed out in a hotel hallway. the uniformed officers were working in advance of the president's arrival and they have now been placed on administrative leave. new video of that subway train derailing in chicago's o'hare airport this week. you can see the train enter the station. look at that. and then crash all the way up an escalator sending people running for their lives.

promise to make her look 10 years younger in 60 minutes. we're joined by her daughter and our "gma" dream team headed by super stylist gretta monahan and bobbi brown and we'll see how they transformed glynnette in just a bit but first abc's sara haines brings us glynnette's story. >> reporter: when "gma" launched the lose 10 years in 60 minute series, we were inundated with hundreds of letters and videos but glynnette ford stood out. >> my name is glynnette ford from kill born, texas. >> reporter: the texas teacher says she counts her blessings for her two beautiful daughters and a happy marriage but there's one thing she loses sleep about, how old she says she looks. >> i was at a movie theater and i received a senior citizen discount. i went places around town. they thought that i was my daughter's grandmother. >> reporter: on more than one occasion glynnette who used to be commended for how young she looked has even been confused for her own mother's mother. >> it's very disheartening.

box office. for "good morning america," dan harris, abc news, new york. >> and "noah" is already doing that. we're excited to have its star russell crowe with us this morning. i saw it yesterday with a group of people and i'm telling you, the reaction was just -- we went to lunch after and that's all that we could do was to talk about it. you played so many different characters. first time playing a biblical character much how do you approach it? >> well, you don't really approach it from that perspective. you just try to find the, you know, the humanity in the perpendicular you're playing and bring it down to a human scale. i mean, if you stood back from it and tried to play the resonance of the story i think you'd get yourself tangled up, you know. so it's just a matter of really looking at the man, looking at the time that he lived in, looking at his relationships with his family and looking at the task this front of him. >> i want to talk more about it. at the heart of it it is a story of a family.

but when you were first approached about this, darron aronofsky, the director, i heard he made you two promises about playing noah. what were they? >> i think he was trying to find a way of getting into the conversation and indicating to me that, you know, as heavy as the script may be, that, you know, he's a broader person with a full personality sort of thing and to expect from him that we can talk about important things. he said to me, you know, i said title of the film. don't say anything. i'll make you two promises. "noah," the biblical noah? and he said, yes. here's the promises. promise number one you'll never be required to wear sandals and promise number two, never at any point will i put you on the bow of a ship flanked by an elephant. >> that's a no-no. >> we see -- we tend to see noah through the eyes of the

children's books, you know, and we think of noah -- so many people when i was making the movie, oh, you're playing noah, animals. noah is the last guy left alive and watches the entire population of the planet perish. there's got to be some steel in noah? that part is great. this is you, noah, explaining to your family what you have been drawn to do. >> all right. ♪ >> great flood is coming. the waters of the heavens will meet the waters of the earth. build a vessel to survive it. we'll build an ark. >> the score, the visuals, so much about the movie and you have -- have you found yourself having to not just talk about it

but to some people who haven't even seen it yet that you're having to defend the way that the movie has been -- >> definitely. we've had probably over a year now of very harsh criticism from a bunch of people who put their name and stamp on an opinion that's not even based on the movie or seeing the movie, just an assumption of how bad it could be or how wrong it could be in their eyes which, you know, i think, quite frankly, is bordering on absolute stupidity. you know, because now people are seeing the movie and they're realizing how respectful it is and how potent it is and, look, the great thing about this flip, regardless whether you're somebody of fate or not, as you're experiencing it, you just said a minute ago you come out and want to talk and the subs you want to talk about, our stewardship of the earth, our relationship to animal, what is spirituality, who am i in this world, all these fantastic subjects for conversation, this is a great piece of art, you know, art that can do that for

people, it's a wonderful hinge. >> i'm sure it's part of the reason you're doing what you're doing. why you wanted to do this. >> absolutely. >> is to spark -- we did that and jennifer connelly was here last week and you guys -- you just bring it to a different level and you remind us noah is a family, a family man. >> uh-huh. at the end of the day this is a family drama. >> yes, exactly. >> family drama about a father who is single-minded in the pursuit of a task and the fallout that can happen. >> oh, the temptation and they're telling me to go. i know you met the pope. i wanted to know your reaction because josh and i had the privilege of being there in the audience. this is something about the pope which -- >> look, i think considering the controversy surrounding this movie, it would have been so easy for the vatican to rescind that invitation and just let it be that way, but the kindness to actually let the invitation stand, you know, i thought it was just so consistent with who

fell for this character. he's larger than life, violent but poetic and so the look was -- i don't know, getting the look right was sort of making sure he was believable that he'd seen some days. >> he had lived some life. and to get the look, you're an exercise enthusiast. to get the look you decided to get that look you had to go for it so what did you do? >> you know, richard shepherd, the writer and director talked about don's lifestyle, 1 years in prison and the excess and what he enjoys and so we -- just had a summer, you know, saying yes to everything. >> you had a prosthetic broken nose which sounds painful. >> yeah, little things here and there we tweaked with. >> and the teeth. >> the teeth were caps and wearing something up my nose so it makes me look like i've got a broken nose. none of it took too long and
