live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. everyone out of here. that is the order from fire crews trying to get everyone out of a fast-moving apartment fire in livermore this morning. good morning, thanks for joining us. what a terrifying situation: forced to run for your lives while fire is racing through the building. one man hid after the fire, delaying treatment for the burns. amy hollyfield joins us from livermore. yes, firefighters say they don't know what he had to hide

but they do know that he was drunk, he took a breathalyzer test and the fire started in his apartment unit. everyone out. >> livermore firefighters tried to wake up people with shouts and knocks on the door at 1:00 o'clock this morning as the apartment building went up if flames. >> you could see the flames coming from the building. >> this cell phone video captured how big the fire was with flames from the windows and the roof. eight units have fire damage displacing seven. >> a man had burns on his hands and faces and breathing buns which can be very serious. he was airlifted to a burn center. >> they did not find him right away. the property manager says he seed in silence for a while. >> the gentleman that lives in the unit where the fire began was hiding across the street and came out an hour or two after

the fire occurred. >> he says he was homeless and a church had just found him the apartment to live in a couple of weeks ago. >> he was drinking. perhaps what occurred is something happened to the unit that causedded the fire to begin and perhaps he was burned trying to put out the fire but, probably got scared and ran. >> firefighters 13 the fire started in his unit. >> we know writ started. we have to interview the occupant to put everything together. we know writ started. it is accidental. >> everyone else got out. >> scary. i live by myself. >> you will of the people displace idea found a place to stay because of the red cross. firefighters say they are trying to figure out what started the fire. they have not been able to talk to the victim yet. a water main break at the lockheed martin facility delayed

the start of the work day for thousands. you can see the water trail from sky 7. 5,000 employees who work at the site were told not to show up to work until 10:00 so crews could restore the water service. >> state senator yee is keeping a low profile the day after being arrested on corruption charges. the new details are emerging and his neighbors and constituents are reacting, and our reporter is outside his san francisco home. that is his house across the street. we know he came here after court yesterday and i have knocked and rang the doorbell twice with no answer. new proof that he might be inside in the last hour, there has been a delivery here. no signs of life at senator yee's house until 10:00 a.m. when a woman calling herself the supporter dropped off muffins. >> i am just a supporter.

at los angeles international airport. >> there has been a culture of being able to take property that wasn't theirs and that is what we want to stop. >> the suspects were still wearing their yellow safety vote ofs as they were led out in handcuffs to be processed. most are employees are former employees of independent contracting companies to handle luggage but do not work for the airport. officials say the suspect had employment and criminal back ground checks before being authorized to work at the airport but most of the police activity was at the tom bradlee international terminal and american airlines, american eagle and qantas flights. items include jewelry, electronics, and clothing, believed to be stolen and folks will attempt to return the items. a misspelling in a security data bait about boston marathon

bombing suspect to re-enter the united states. when he went to russia in the fall of 2011 his name was put on a security database and when authorities notified the c.i.a. about his visit, his name was entered again but his last night was misspelled. so he was able to slip back into the united states without being detected. he was killed after a shootout with authorities. >> travelers trying to get from san francisco to europe arrest making alternate plans. ground staff and baggage handlers and maintenance workers are striking today with the airlines forces 600 flight cancellations. the strike impacts flights from europe, to san francisco, seattle, boston, chicago, and dallas-ft. worth. 30 percent of the entire flight schedule is canceled today. >> we have new details on the disappearance of malaysia airlines flight 370 with the

a new picture published shows the world trade center security guard fires for sleeping on the job over the weekend. literally. a port authority official took the picture of the guard reclimbing in his chair. the 65-year-old denies he was sleeping on the job. he tells the "post" he was exercise his eyes. this is after the arrest of three people accused of parachuting from the world trade center and the arrest of a 16-year-old accused of climbing to the top of the biggest skyscraper, the freedom tower. >> in chicago, the operator of

the we train was sleeping, they said. surveillance video shows the train slamming into the escalator and at least 30 people were hurt. the operator said she was jolted awake on impact. it is not the first time she has fallen asleep. she admitted to dozing in the past including back in february when the train she was operating partly missed a stop. pope francis and president obama met for the first time as he welcomed the commander in chief to the vatican. the president bowed when he shook hands. president obama told the pope that he is a great admirer and the president considers pope francis to be a kindred picture on economic inequality although the administration and church are split on abortion and contraception. clothing retailer is pulling a controversial shirt from its stores after a series of complaints from angry shoppers. the shirt is being criticized of senting antisemetic message with

covering santa clara, san francisco, east bay and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> the new devil's slide coastal trail hops in an hour and a half and the public can walk next to the cliffs and look over at the pacific. all because of a $2 million investment by a group of agencies. it follows the 1.3-mile route of highway one which now is bypassed by tunnels. san mateo county resurfaced the road and made other improvement and is a segment of the california coastal trail which will eventually stretch 11 miles from pacifica to pillar point north of half moon bay. >> march madness this afternoon, ten seeded stanford will advance to the elite eight when the cardinals play 11 seeded dayton

in the ncaa tournament. it has been six years since stanford reached this point after beating new mexico and kansas and dayton knocked off he state and third seeded syracuse the first time they have been in the sweet 16 since 1984 and both will try to prove that upsets last weekend were not a fluke with tip-off 4:15. now, the weather is containing. meteorologist mike nicco? >> i don't have an umbrella but i don't thing it will rain in the next three minutes but the clouds behind me. they get vertical development. they do drop a little bit of rain. most of the rainfall totals today have been traceed to .01" to show you how little rain. we have had up to three-quarters inch around most of the bay and st. helena we had 1.25" if the

highest amount. san jose and 12.5" deficit and bodega bear to rohnert park and petaluma, that area you could get a little sprinkle in the next 15 to 20 minutes and then all is quiet. a scattered shower is still possible the next 30 hours. that is just it, scattered. up to six degrees warmer than this time yesterday, with los gatos at 61 for the warm spot. from mount tamalpais you can see the clouds that are rolling through our neighborhoods and partly sunny is what will keep us below average because of the winds off the ocean, and showers are possible through tuesday and scattered nature with heavy rain with a cold front saturday and another front on monday.

a lot of sunshine in the south bay is how it looks from the san jose bureau camera to downtown and we will use that as the backdrop to talk about nice temperatures today if you are working outside, low-to-mid 60's in most neighborhoods and upper 50's to low 60's along the coast. now, if you are headed to the game the boys of summer are here although we have a few spring showers, i would dress more for the temperature in the mid-to-upper 50's as the a's and giants play. tonight we are in the upper 40's to mid-50's and a few random showers to the north. thursday, during the afternoon, very little in the way of shower act it. tonight, mostly across the north bay. a chance of light rain developing toward the evening hours and the cold front pushes into the heart of the north bay by midnight and through the neighborhoods on saturday morning and by noon the steady rain is over with only a few scattered showers saturday

evening into sunday before the next heavier rain on monday. we get quarter to three-quartersism of rain on saturday. our temperatures will remain below average until wednesday when we dry out in april and warm out, too. saturday morning is the best chance for wet weather the next couple of days. an update to unusual news from north korea after reports surfaced this all college students, the men, were required to get the same hair cut as their leader, kim jong-un. this morning, there are no signs of that happening and visitors including journalists say they have not seen mass changes in hair styles. there was a report in radio free asia citing sources say this is an written directive requiring all male students to buzz cut the sides of their hold like kim jong-un. >> who knows?
