good afternoon. >> i'm larry beil. there are major system-wide delays on bart now because of equipment failure inside of the transbay tube the problems began this morning and continued throughout the day. trains are still able to move through the tube. >> the trains had to run only one third of their normal speed in manual mode. we're live at the station in san francisco. jonathan? >> reporter: if you're hoping to start the weekend early no such luck if you're planning to get on a pleasanton train leaving the city. the problem on the tracks has forced riders to play a game of

musical chairs that adds 20 minutes onto the commute. i want to show you video from sky 7 hd. that is what is going on the reason that is a big deal is when trains run they go about 80 miles per hour the system shuts down, top speed in manual mode is seven miles per hour. you can see it creates problems here on the ground you can see see trains inching along. and somewhere along here is the root of the problem. a broken component known as a mucks box. mucks is short for multiplexor. i can guarantee you most don't care what it is or what it stands for they care they've been waiting for a train that might not have room. a spokesman told us they're 40 years old and you can't just go

>> well, we put the fixing aside to focus on the commute. there are no delays coming out of the city. you can get on a train, you're just going to go throughout the transbay tube. there are reports of six-minute delays going into the city. the important thing is no delays into the east bay. >> there are two fans heading out to the coliseum, what advice to you have? what do you think? >> it's too soon to say. right now we have the same amount of trains we have. and longer trains for the a's game. now, we think things are going to be fine. >> thank you.

your inprep yid forecast is here. you can see light scattered showers around the bay area now. so here looks like activity is tense in spots. reports of light rain and showers in locations. so starting at 4:00 over next few hours we'll see areas of scattered showers and there begin to weaken by 9:00 tonight or so. so right now, clouds over the bay. temperatures mid to upper temperatures in the mid-50s.

a second bay area based international guard team is on the way to rescue a sick baby on a sail boat. this is taking place about 900 nautical miles off mexico.

a guard unit left moffett field this morning. the families aboard the sail boat officials say the family said their 1-year-old daughter was ill. the first group set out last night parachuting to the sail boat to stabilize the child. the plan now is to get to a hospital. >> the effort to find any sign of malaysia airlines flight 370 is reaching a critical stage. a search for the plane's black boxes the batteries could run out this weekend. >> the clock is ticking in the search for malaysia airlines flight 370.
