>> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, april 6th. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, carolyn. good morning to you. live doppler 7hd pretty much fog-free. just a speck down here. but we are starting out much moldier with upper 40s and low 50s. 8 degrees warmer than we were this time yesterday. four degrees of warming in concord and here's a look what you can expect this morning and the afternoon hours. we are well into the 50s now. by noontime a quick warmup. upper 60s and near 70ss

day. but by 4:00, upper 70s inland, low 70s around the bay, mid-60s coast and a nice clear night tonight. we have a beach hazard to pass along to you. we will talk about that and tell you how warm it will get in the upcoming first few days of the week. that's next. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. >> in dealing news the navy has now rescued a sick baby. they reached a sailboat stranded about 1,000 miles off of cabos san lucas, mexico. aboard the veeset, one-year-old and her family. they were in the middle of an around-the-world trip when they became seriously ill. crews parachuted in earlier and stable layed the girl. the navy warship is now there to complete the mission.

>>. >> >> the main issue, especially with children, they do really well for long time and then they crash. that's what we are worried about. >> and again, late breaking news. baby has been rescued. the kauffman family was two weeks into their journey when the baby girl became ill. >> and the search will continue today for a missing menlo park woman. the 33-year-old woman las not been seen at home since last sunday. surveillance footage from that day shows were walking across a parking lot near a campground on mt. tam. and an abandoned rental car in her name was later found in the parking lot. authorities say before leaving home she left a message saying she was going on a day hike, but she did not say where. the chp is investigating a freeway shooting that injured two people in the east bay last night. the victims drove themselves to a medical center in san pablo.

the chp said the men were shot along eastbound 580 between regatta way and 23rd avenue in richmond around 8:30. officers were called to the hospital after the victims showed up there. >> when we arrived on scene, we found the victim's vehicle and the two victims were in the emergency room. >> no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting. the chp is still trying to figure out weather the victims were targeted or if this was a random attack. oakland police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found near a popular rec center. officers found the victim at 6:30 yesterday morning near the francis smith rec center on park boulevard near third avenue. investigators say there was apparent trauma to the woman's body so her death is being investigated as a homicide. she has not been identified. developing news out of

fairfield where police are investigating a shooting that injured four teenagers. that shooting happened around 10:30 last might in the area of camelia and orchid streets. authorities say it happened at a house party that followed a large fight. all four victims are in stable condition. >> police in modesto are trying to unravel the circumstances that led to three girls being hospitalized with stab wounds yesterday. investigators say a 13-year-old stabbed another 13-year-old and an 11-year-old before stabbing herself. the incident happened early yesterday morning. one of the girls has since been released from the hospital. the other two are listed in critical condition. a dramatic rescue after a dangerous boat fire. abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the details. she's at the marina in

sausalito. >> reporter: forty feet of scorched fiberglass is pulled from the sausalito marina. it was a pleasure craft owned by this man in the black sweatshirt. it was cruising along the bay carrying five children and three adults when the boat's owner saw smoke coming from the vents. he called for help. >> because it was pretty hot and they didn't know what to do. i asked him to put on life jackets and then get in the water. >> but before jumping into the cold water, the owner made another distress call to a nearby boater. >> so the owner of the boat was able to fire a warning flare toward the other boat, grab his attention and they jumped in and the other boat came over and picked them up. >> they were in the water about five minutes but just after they jumped fire consumed the boat. firefighters heard two life -- loud explosions and were forced to stay back. they thought the ba blaze by -- they fought the blaze by shooting water from their fire boat. they eventually pulled the boat out and brought it to a remote

area. long time boaters can't stop talking about what they call a rare situation on the water. >> outrageous. i've never heard of anything like that on the bay. a fire on the boat is devastating, really dangerous. >> i'm curious what caused the fire and i imagine that's why they are trying to get it out of the water so they can investigate and find out. >> the boat will be taken to san rafael, and investigators will take a closer look at the remains. in sausalito, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> a possible break in the search for the missing malaysian airline flight. first a chinese flight hears two fleeting electronic pulse necessary the indian motion. now in a separate area of the search zone the australians say they may have heard something, as well. clayton is in australia with the latest. >> overnight search teams in the air and on the water made an urgent swing toward this chinese patrol ship. the crew on board said it twice detected a signal that might be pings coming from back box recorders. >> this is an important lead,

but one which i urge you to continue to treat carefully. we are working in a very big ocean and within a very large search area. this morning reports say the chinese used this simple hand-held device to hear those pings. if so, the maker of the device tells the new york times it likely would not be able to hear those pings in such a deep ocean. a british royal navy ship is now closing in, bringing more sophisticated gear for listening underwater. but a second australian ship carrying this u.s. navy black box locator now won't be coming right away. it's chasing its own lead, a third mysterious sound picked up about 350 miles away. it could be something or nothing. >> we are dealing with very deep water, we are dealing with an environment where sometimes you can get false indications. >> this morning search teams are focusing further south because of new analysis is the data

reveals the boeing 777 may have been flying longer than first thought. possibly going down where the chinese picked up the snatch but so far weeks of searching the indian ocean has failed to turn up any new evidence and tracking down these new leads are nor urgent than ever because the pings from the black boxes may be just days from going silent, their batteries running out. they hope to learn more in the next 24 hours. we are told the british ship should be here early monday morning to begin its search. from australia. happening now. thousands of runners are close to finishing the rock n' roll half-marathon in san francisco. the course took them across the golden gate bridge and ends at the civic center. there is a ceremony held at the

>> welcome back, everyone. it's 9:13 on this first sunday in april. a look from our lake tahoe cam. it's 9 degrees at the tahoe valley airport -- 49 degrees. reaching up to 59 later today. above average temps for them and the rest of us. lisa argen will be along in just a few. public health officials say a number of people may have been exposed month measles from a student at uc. she not only road bart but attended classes last week. health officials opened a clinic yesterday on campus but they say there is not an outbreak. >> we are seeing more cases in california than we've seen in prior years and that's related primarily to outbreaks going on

overseas. there are higher rates of measles in other countries than there are here. >> since january 1st, california has reported 50 cases of measles compared to this time last year when the count was >> this morning nancy pelosi is cheering the success of the american health act. that was turn around following earlier problems with healthcare.gov's website. this morning on "state of the union congresswoman pelosi celebrated the numbers that was driven up by a number of consumers the days and hours before the deadlines. >> we are celebrating the fact we have over 7 million who have signed up, not counting the 3.1 million who are on the polls of their parents until they are 26 years old. and not including over 3 million and closer to 5 million on

starting tomorrow, it will cost you more to cross the golden gate bridge. a one dollar toll hike goes into effect. rates for fast track will be six dollars, pay by rate will be seven. the toll are rise none by 25 cents this july of 2015 and another quarter every year until july, 2018. the bridge district officials say they face a $142 million budget shortfall over the next five years unless they increase

those tolls. >> an lobby any divers and beach-goers are being advised to use caution when at the beach today. strong waves and currents could pull swimmers out to see. according to "the press democrat" the warnings come during the first weekend of the recreational abalone season. the threat of sneaker waves is expected to last all day today. lisa, i bet there will be people flock to go the beaches because of the above-average weather. >> it's particularly dangerous in the shallow water where you don't expect the waves. we are looking for frost free conditions, a quick warmup this morning. we had some fog along the san mateo coast but it is about out of here. here's a sunny look at san jose.

temperatures 49 redwood city, 56 half moon bay, and oakland the warmest spot at 67. hazy mt. tam, but north bay compliments of the north, northwesterly wind at the beaches will be very mild today. 60 fairfield. santa rosa you were warm yesterday. warmer today. you were 71 yesterday and 54 right now. and here's the look from our east bay hills camera where we will enjoy temperatures well above average. hears a look where we were yesterday. 68 in concord. forecasting high of 78 today. 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. fremont only in the mid-60s. 76 today. 11 degrees warmer. and in the city you are going to be 8 degrees warmer. average highs will be surpassed today. doesn't look like we will see records because records are well into the 90's. water vapor imagery shows this huge dome of pressure that will continue to build over the eastern pacific and that sets the stage for rapidly warming temperatures and sir preeing the

marine layer. clear skies this morning. sunny and warmer and above average right through wednesday. i think by overnight tuesday into wednesday we will see a wind shift and we will see a return to some patchy fog and cooler temperatures coastside by midweek. we talk about the fast-moving northwesterly swell throughout the day today. very dangerous from sonoma all the way down to monterey. and numbers are very warm for this time of year. all the way from the north coast down to southern california with 79 in los angeles. 72 yosemite. and temperatures in the low 80s in sacramento. we will have 80s in our east bay valleys. temperatures in the south bay in the upper 70s to near 806789 a couple for gilroy, los gatos. 74. and on the peninsula beautiful with 74 menlo park. look for 68 in milbrae. and 70 south city. newspaper the north bay you notice the oranges here. this is where we are really warming to near 80 degrees in napa. over into the east bay

the duke and dutchess of cambridge are headed to new zealand this morning in their first international trip with baby george. they are expected to arrive in new zealand's capital of wellington tonight, the first leg on a three-week trip. that will be the base for baby george while the parents criss-cross the country. on the second leg they travel to australia. one of the engagements is earmarked for a potential appearance for prince george. that's at the opening of a zoo that is in sidney. let's get a final check of the accuweather forecast now with lisa. >> sunshine and we are already warmer than yesterday at this hour. going for a high today of 75 in oakland. 76 fremont. some 80s in the east bay values. the accuweather seven-day forecast, 60s at our peaches with tomorrow and tuesday warming up well into the 80s bay side and inland. >> all right. hooky days. >> no. >> that will do to for us. thank you for joining us on the
