see cloudy conditions remain along the coast. sunnier inland. temperatures close to yesterday's numbers. slightly cooler in some spots. clouds return this evening and i'll tell you about a warmup coming up in thesen day forecast. katie. >> thank you. new details between a fiery crash between a school bus and a fed ex truck that killed ten people. a witness said the truck was already on fire before it crashed into the bus. >> the fed ex truck was already on fire? >> yeah, it was. >> it was like a 3-d movie. you imagine a mac truck in a movie. >> claims the truck was on fire before it crashed has not yet been confirmed by the national transportation safety board who is investigating the crash. the investigation is expected to take up to two weeks. some families are asked for dental records because the bodies are too badly burned to be identified. all of the students on board the bus came from the los angeles area. the students were headed to a

college review weekend at humboldt state university. abc news reporter melissa mcbride has more from the scene. >> seconds after a truck collide with a bus full of high school students, calls to 911 began flooding in. >> saw a very, very large explosion and fireball. >> 43 students were headed to humboldt state for a college visit thursday afternoon when the fed ex tractor-trailer crossed the median. ten people were killed in the fiery crash. five students, both drivers and three shaper roenicks on the bus. 18-year-old harley was doing homework when the accident happened. >> all of a sudden people started screaming and there's commotion and i look up and as i look up the bus driver slams on the brakes and it's like a cloud screeching noise. i'll never forget it. within a split second, boom! smoke was filling the truck and everything, the fed ex truck was on fire. >> he has been reunited with his family.

>> 18-year-old miles hill of mount washington remains hospitalized with serious burns and a broken collarbone. >> absolutely terror because i couldn't get here and he's my son and i knew he needed me. >> his father said miles has burns on his ears and legs from kicking out a window to escape. he put his hands over his face so the graft explosions went back this way and missed the front of his face and he was right behind the driver. he's lucky he got out. >> it's still unclear what caused the driver of the truck to cross the median. the ntsb is handling the investigation. reporting in chico, abc7 news. >> devastation and heartbreak as some families were notified yesterday with the death of their loved one. one family with identical twins , daughters, they made it to the

destination but no word from the other daughter who was riding open the bus that crashed. the authorities have asked the family for her dental records. >> we're learning more about the victims. michael and amy were just engage ed. amy powell tells us they were chaperones on the bus taking visits to visit their alma mater. >> this christmas he went with madison to paris and got on his knees and asked to get married. >> he surprised his fiancee with that romantic proposal in paris. excitement about the couple's wedding plans has been shattered by their shocking death. >> and they said, granny, i love you. the other one said, granny, i love you. they both gave me a kiss. i said you love you guys to. >> she dropped his grandson and his fiancee off at a train station. it was the last time she saw them. they were on a bus chaperoning

high school students to michaels alma mater. humboldt state university. that's when they were killed in the crash. michael made the trip several times. >> he made trips to recruit because he was an alumni. after graduation and would become chaperones in order to give back. he helped the community. all the kids. some on this block are at humboldt because of my son. >> he worked as a therapist for children with autism. relatives and friends say michael and madison were an inspiring couple. >> they made me believe in so many things. i remember the beginning process of them courting, their courtship and michael talking about their engagement and looking at rings and getting very excited about parenting so they really made you believe in true love. >> the family tells us michael and madison had been planning to get married next year. amy powell. abc7 news. in south los angeles.

>> crash survivors rookies left this thank you poster at the red cross chapter on thursday. it thanked the workers who helped with the accident. one said i can't imagine if we didn't have your help. >> three people are recovering from injuries after a fight led to a stabbing in san jose. it happened 9:15 last night. police say two officers found two men, who were believe to be victims, suffering from stab wounds and a third man, believed to be a suspect, was found a short time later. he was also injured. all three were taken to the hospital. no word on their conditions. police say the fight does not appear to be gang related. new this morning, two cars were destroyed following an early morning fire in san jose. the fire was reported in a detached garage. crews were able to get the fire under control just before 1:00 but not before the fire damaged a second garage. no homes were destroyed and there were no injuries. no word on what started the

fire, but firefighters believe it maybe accidental. a robber in antioch has been shot and killed during an attempted jewelry hike. -- heist. police are still searching for a second robber t happened at a jewelry store on delta fair boulevard. at least two men wearing black ski masks entered the store. one opened fire. the storeowner was in back but came out front returning fire and killing one robber. a customer was injured and that person has been agreed released from the hospital. san francisco's tech boom has been causing growing pains and tech giant c -- and google has been to blame. now they are going after a google attorney, and for trying

to evict tip naps. we have the details. >> more than 100 demonstrators demonstrated outside a home. this is where an elementary school teacher and her young son lived. the owner moved into the top nor but all tenants got a surprising tenant. >> i got this notice. it was an eviction. >> demonstrators say she is among the recent ellis evictions that uprooted families this the mission district. her ask her fellow residents, including this teacher, are fighting the landlord to keep from moving. he could have bought a thereat anywhere else in the city. he could afford it with his high salary from google. he doesn't need to displacesen people. >> the landlord is jack halpren, an attorney for google. we tried contacting him at home and reached out to google for any comment. neither has responded. they are working for solutions. >> we haven't prepared for our population growth. our population has grown by 75,000 people in the last decade and we produced very little new housing.

>> demonstrators say hundreds of families have been displaced in the last couple years. she just wants to keep her home. >> we are renters but we are contributing to their mortgage. it's not like our money means nothing. >> she and her young son have less than 120 days to move out if they are convicted. -- or if they are evicted. abc7 news. a concord man has been convicted in the mauling death of his two-year-old step grandson by three family pit bulls. the 57-year-old was found guilty of felony endangerment, felony involuntary man slater and owning vicious animals. this is him from 2010. yesterday's conviction comes four years after a two-year-old was mauled to death. he faces up to ten years if prison. an oakland doctor is accused of writing prescriptions for cash. yesterday federal prosecutors unsealed an eight-count

indictment against dr. tony daniels. he met with customers at starbucks, burger king and chicken and waffles to sell prescriptions. he learned $143,000 from october, 2010 to april, 2011, although she did not file taxes. daniels is expected in court on monday. >> this morning authorities in oakland are asking for your help to identify an arson suspect. he was seen on surveillance video yesterday near a tire that started 8 days ago. it did $150,000 in damage to offices belonging to children's hospital oakland. they describe the man being between 30 and 40 years old, that he's balding but has some dark hair and possibly a gotee. birds in lake county have tested positive for west file virus. the birds death do not mean the mosquitoes that transmit the disease are out early. the birds may have gotten the

this is abc7 news. this morning officials say teams looking for airlines flights 370 are now looking at the next phase of the search, which involves going underwater. crews are still working to verify underwater signals that were detected in the last week. two sounds heard a week ago by an australian team were determined to be consistent with the signals emitted from the black boxes. two more pings were detected tuesday from the same area. australia's prime minister said he's confident the signals are coming from the missing boeing 777. the duke and duchess of cambridge of continuing their vies tight new zealand this morning. yesterday the royal couple

toured the country's north island. the duchess visited a children's hospice in hamilton while the prince visited an aircraft facility. they laid flowers at a war memorial and met with a son of a world war ii veteran. >> a family has the details on a family tiling suit witness a hospital. >> wade and yepfer's daughter morgan was declared brain dead of a complications from heart surgery at the children's hospital in oakland. they were told morgan would be taken off life support in 48 hours. >> i wanted more time tore my daughter to heel. i didn't know if it was the right decision. >> they removed morgan from life support, but they say the most paper came from the way they were treated. >> no one would give us appearances.

high pressure build and more sunshine tomorrow. the forecast model shows it playing out by noontime most of the clouds pull back to the coast but we could see some partly cloudy conditions around the bay. and then you will notice the clouds move right back in overnight and we will see a similar start tomorrow morning. but with more sunshine on sunday numbers will come up. for today look for some upper 60s in the south bay. 9 in san jose. 70 in cupertino. also on the peninsula 64 in san mateo. 68 palo alto. and on the coast still in the upper 50s. 58 in the sunset district, downtown san francisco 61. in the north bay temperatures range from 50, 76 in ukiah and 68 calistoga and sonoma. 64 richmond. mainly mid-60s in the east bay with 67 in castro valley. and low 70s instead to upper 60s in the interior valleys and inland community so

for equal pay for women. in his weekly address, he calls it an embarrassment that women earn less than men even in the same profession with the same education. this week he issued an executive order that he says will allow for more transparency regarding salary. this is an economic issue that affect all of us. women make up about half of our workforce and more and more they are our families' main bread winners. it's good for everyone when women are paid fairly. that's why this week i took action to prohibit more businesses from punishing workers who discuss their salaries because more pay transparencies makes it easier to spot pay discrimination. that issue supports an election issue for the democrats. >> the pay will return to the

bay area next month for two high-end fundraisers. the president about raise money for the democratic national convention at the palo alto home of yahoo ceo melissa meyer. >> some area researchers work that disappeared some 16 years ago has been found in the bay area. it's the work by a woman from poland to bs considered a national treasure. it's worth millions. >> this is "the cobbler," one of hanna kali's works of hard. kali was a polish resistent fighter after world war ii. after the war she traveled the war painting, finally settling down in the bay area. her artwork is considered a national treasure in poland. when she died, kali left 86 paintings to the museum in switzerland. the wart work never reached their intended destination. >> they vanished. for 16 years the whereabouts of the paintings were a mystery.

four years the museum intensified their search for the artwork n january the polish ministry of culture turned to the fbi in san francisco. >> the polish government had asked us to try and reach out for one of the family members in the bay area and see if he was aware of the location of the paintings. >> the fib went to kali's nephew's home in santa rosa he knew where they were. they were being maintained in a storage facility and after a conversation with us it was agreed that we would take them and get them back to switzerland where they belonged. >> the fbi recovered 75 of the 86 paintings. the nephew said he was protecting the paintings and didn't know the museum was looking for them. the polish government says there are still some 80,000 pieces of art that are missing from its country. most are believed to have been stolen by the nazis and russians. >> they are finding more and more paintings in germany and in

>> the idea of designing architecture and building is -- i love doing this. >> they will spend a little over a year creating a parklet in their neighborhood. >> the overarching idea was we are going to focus on design and also 21st century trade. trades the way they looked 15 years ago is fog like they look now. very intensive in technology. >> first they learned sketching and 3d computer design. all the while creating ideas. >> the lighting is going to reflect here many they did not skimp on details. solar panels on top to create energy for the lights here we wanted somewhere to sit. and two seats for older people and this is for younger kids and then we added this period table knowledge on this date the exploratorium team is helping the teams combine their designs into a small, plastic model using a 3d printer. >> it lays down one layer at a time many the plans keep getting

more elaborate. >> we are going to take up about six feet, put grass on it were the next step is to build a full-size plywood prototype right this front of the boys and girls club. doing it at the club is a great way to make sure that the real kids in the community who may not every experience anything like this really get to experience it. >> finally, the community comes in to test out the row toe type parklet and it's a huge hit. the teenage designers watched carefully to see how all their ideas work. >> pretty incredible. just knowing that the kids had been using the stuff that we built with our own hands. >> they will build a permanent park this coming summer. the next step in the long-term goal of replicating this project in other cities. helping many more young people prepare for the future. i learned a lot and made me feel more confident in what i can do. dan ashley reporting. abc7 news is the ex-loreium's
