>> good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller in for lisa -- for carolyn tyler. he's meteorologist lisa argen. things are looking pretty nice today." lisa? >> we have a lot of low fog and clouds again all over the bay except out toward the delta. that will clear. it will take until about 10:00 until we see the sunshine. right now we are sitting mainly in the low to mid-50s. 55 in mountain view, 54 in san jose. about 50 in santa rosa. so the clouds will peel back and we will look for a warmer afternoon mainly due to a wind shift. the on shore push backs off and we will get a northerly winds. 60s at our beaches and sunshine there. around the bay upper 60s to lower 70s. we will climb through the 70s

today to about 78 in the livermore valley. we will talk about how long the warmup will stay with us coming up. matt. >> thank you. developing news this developing news, three businesses in berkeley were destroyed in a matt i have six alarm fire. fire broke out just after 8:00 last night on a warehouse on second street near hearst avenue. it was home to office and retail space. one of the businesses destroyed was the wooden duck. it's been making furniture since 1995. >> it's in fortunate that he is -- i don't know when his livelihood will be now. he spent 15 years building that business up. let's hope he can put it back together. >> we went to three alarms with department and three additional arms within the county.

we have anywhere from almeda city, almeda county, oakland, i believe, and multiple people from around the county came to help us. >> no injuries were reported. the cause of the fire remains under investigation. the fire also caused amtrak train service to stop for a while. these people were waiting at the emeryville station. fire department worded the halt because the hoses were running across the tracks. the fire also led to fire outages nearby. when it was at its worst, fire was out to 1500 customers. pg&e said the fire department asked them to shut down power in the area. you see the sparks fly when transformers blew. crews have been able to get power on to the majority of the customers. three people are suffering from injuries after the car they were riding in slammed into a tree in san jose.

happened on sun crest avenue just after 1:00 in the morning. two people were trapped inside the car. jaws were life were called in to get the people out. a total of three people were injured. authorities say their injuries are not considered to be life threatening. no word yet on what caused the accident. this morning the national transportation safety board is looking into what caused the deadly crash between a fed ex truck and a school bus. happened thursday on i-5 in glen county. the ntsb says no tire marks from the truck were found, indicating the driver did not attempt to stop. he identified the truck driver at 32-year-old tim evans of oak grove. chuck sievertson has the latest. >> reporter: investigators are combing the area, searching for crews to the fiery explosion from a fed ex tractor-trailer slammed into a tour bus full of college-bound high school students. the bus driver made defensive maneuvers to avoid the truck. >> there was action on the part of the driver to stop the vehicle. they are also saying there was a reaction beyond just the braking, the serving to the right. >> and a woman saw it strike the truck.

>> it was coming straight toward me. the driver reported seeing flames underneath the tractor-trailer before it everybody swerved across the median and into the oncoming bus. >> the southbound lane at a 10-degree angle, and there are no tire marks, which would be no braking tire marks in the median or the northbound lanes. >> this charred, mangled shell, claimed the lives of ten many people and injured others. the bus was only in service about a month and was equipped with seatbelts. some people were ejected, though. >> we are going to see whether the seatbelts kept them in place and caused for injuries. >> it is a bad nightmare. >> chuck sievertson, abc news, new york. >> we are learning more about the victims in thursday's crash. nine of the ten were identified. the nine were on the bus. other fatality was the drier of the fed ex truck. >> chuck sievertson, abc news. >> nine of the ten have been identified. the nine were on the bus and the other driver was the driver of the fed ex truck.

they identified him at 32-year-old tim evans of oak grove. sergio has the details. >> white balloons were released over a baseball field in lenox just outside. los angeles. there were part of an emotional tribute to high school senior here. >> he was destined to great things. and maybe that's why -- god wanted him up >> he and miss classmate, denise, are among those killed in the class. and melissa seen on the right was also killed. her twin sister was on another bus and was unharmed. the family has driven up to northern california where the crash happened to collect her body. fellow students near los angeles are also mourning the loss of popular football player adrian castro. >> he was a really great guy. he always had a smile on his face. he was really confidence. >> his family released this

statement about the 19-year-old. adrian was a fine young man involved in football aspiring to a bright future. we also pray for the other people and family of those who lost their lives. the fifth student is jennifer, a senior and honor student at dorsey high school. crash investigators say skid marks on the freeway indicate the bus driver attempted to avoid the fed ex truck as it headed toward them. the driver, friends say she was dedicated to her job and her safety of her passengers. abc7 news. >> the marin county sheriff's department has confirmed a body found on mount tamalpais is that of a missing hiker. the 33-year-old 346789agdalena was last seen on the 30th. she recently moved to the area. they received a tip from a runner who said he saw her saturday. they narrowed their search area. search dogs found her body yesterday morning.

>> the body was located in a very remote rugged area, a drainage off of what might be considered one of the more common trails used here in the mountain. it's unusual for people to travel these areas, which would explain as to why she had not been located up to this point. >> a cause of death has not yet been determined. an oakland man is in marin county jail this morning on suspicion of raping a woman in sausalito. the suspect, the 51 years old, met the woman to discuss a possible job opening. he bought her drinks and assaulted her in a park. she then locked herself in a bathroom stall and called police. >> a man is recovering this morning from multiple gunshot wounds suffering during a shooting in oakland. police were called to 16th and linden streets just before 1:00 yesterday after a shooting. victim was found in the street. he was last listed in stable condition. no one is arrested. moments after they responded

to the shooting, an oakland police officer was involved in an accident a short distance away. his car was hit by another vehicle. that was just after 1:00 in the afternoon. the officer suffered moderate injuries and was hospitalized. the other driver was not injured and stopped and cooperated with police. today is palm sunday. one of the holiest days on the christian calendar. tens of thousands of roman tourists and pilgrims joined pope francis in st. peter's square. they clutched palm trees shaped like crosses. christians believes that palm sunday is the day jesus arrived at jerusalem one day before easter. looks like easter will be pretty nice in the bay area. >> yeah. probably right around 10:00 we will see mostly sunny conditions because, boy, once again, lots of le fog and clouds around the bay with our roof camera coming in in the low to mid-50s. you see a little bit of a breeze there. you know what?

>> the malasian defense minister said a legal discussion is underway this morning to decide who would have custody over the black boxes of a missing malaysian airline jet should they be found. crews are continuing their search today for debris and underwater signals. no electronic pings have been heard since april 8th and the battery powering the beacons on the black boxes might be dead. a search robot will be sent underwater after the sounds are no longer heard. >> part of a popular tourist town in wyoming has been evacuated because of landslide. huge cracks are developing in the hill that overlooks the town. they are in the process of placing water tanks on the hillside in case of a fire. the landslide is slowly moving and deepening.÷úp

grazing fees. local protesters clashed with agents from the bureau of land management. last week they round up hundreds of the cattle because they said he owes almost $1 million in unpaid range fees. bundy has let his animals graze on public land for 20 years. protesters and the family say the fight was about much more than cattle and money. >> it's about the freedom of americans, we, the people. >> in its statement, blm said they are releasing the cattle out of serious concern for the safety of their agents and protesters. animal services is asking for the public's help to capture a wild turkey that was shot with an arrow. it was last seen walking near ascott drive. while it didn't hit vital organs, it may develop an action that would make it more vulnerable to dogs and wild

animals. a winter trip to the lake tahoe area turned nightmarish for a hayward couple. they asked 7 on your side's michael finney to make things right. ♪ mobile dj. they are driving to two gigs in lake tahoe in snowy conditions like you have seen here, he and his wife. he put on chains, but driving conditions only got worse. then the car they got from fox rent a car began to lose power. >> it was barely creeping up the hill. >> even though we had on chains. and we were scared that you were really going to go down into the snow. >> so i pulled over to the side of the road. >> they tried to reach fox rent a car but no one was answering the phone. fortunately for them a highway patrol officer came to the rescue. he literally pushed their vehicle to the top of the hill. >> once we were left to coast, it was still 15 miles away.

and it was like i hope there's not another hill. >> when they got into town, kindred rushed to his first gig and she called fox. but the rental agency told her they would not be able to get a replacement car to them. they blamed both the road conditions and the lack of vehicles. so the davises were forced to turn to another rental car company. >> we had a charge for hertz rental. that was over $300 for one day. and we had a charge for a taxi which was $100. >> after they got home fox immediately reversed the charge on their rental and agreed to send them a check for the hertz rental, taxi, gas and snow chains because the family had reserved an s.u.v. from fox but ended up with a two wheel drive instead. >> a couple weeks before christmas we are out of hundreds of dollars and the check never came. >> i called. we called, my wife called. no check. and for months no check. >> they called 7 on your side and we got a hold of fox.

extensive with 3,000 feet deep. it will take time to pull back, but once it does, it should be a fantastic afternoon. 52 by the delta and the fog now in fair feel. concord, good morning to you. livermore 53 with 50 in santa rosa. so most neighborhoods a couple degrees warmer. a couple degrees cooler than yesterday. the afternoon is where you will feel the difference. he is the clouds starting out. and the temperatures coming up today into the upper 70s. it will be as much as 5 degrees warmer there. minor warming at the coast with sunshine. most areas will see sunny conditions. and a little fog lingering around the shoreline. but breezy and cooler conditions arrive as soon as tuesday. so this is a minor warmup due to high pressure building in a little bit closer to the eastern pacific today. what that does is it will compress the marine layer. as the high builds in. so with the temperatures warming, it should be a pretty nice afternoon. the numbers will be above

average for the short term. here's the plan. 8:00 this morning, notice the marine layer and the fog begins to pull back. we still have it at the san carlos airport, san jose and up in the north bay around petaluma and santa rosa. but by 10:00 we are looking at sunny conditions and notice the low clouds and fog just a little bit around point reyes. perhaps half moon bay. but as we go through the week ahead, notice the fluctuations up and down. right on through the early part of next weekend in oakland. so with temperatures in the mid-60s, that's near average today. upper 60s tomorrow. and tomorrow a warmer day. here's the dip with breezy condition on tuesday, warming back up wednesday and thursday. 74 san jose. 77 los gatos, 72 redwood city. some sunshine and the sunset 61. partly sunny at the coast. near east bay look for upper

their presence. their material has to come from india and china. they aren't going to be able to snap fingers and get back in business. >> the fire did cause some power outages in the area. no injuries were reported. developing news, the crisis in ukraine is reaching a boiling point. government special forces reportedly exchanged gunfire with pro-russian protesters. we have the latest developments. >> reporter: a dangerous escalation in ukraine today. ukrainian forces are carrying out what they are calling an anti-terrorist operation in a town here in eastern ukraine. yesterday government buildings, including the police headquarters, were seized by well-armed, pro russian gunmen. the interior minister said at least one ukrainian officer has been killed and five wanded. -- wounded. over the past week we've seen government buildings all across this part of ukraine fall against the groups.

>> even handing you your drink. >> they are collecting samples from each ship attached. the grandeur of the seas is on a seven-day cruise to the bahamas. >> we have good news about a story we brought you friday. 54-year-old andrew taylor does not have a broken leg and plans to rejoin his mates on the around-the-world trip. he was swept into the ocean during rough seas on march 30ing. this is what crews spotted after a 90 minute search. it was taylor. he was pulled to safety and covered with blankets and given plenty of coffee to warm up. >> happening today in almeda bay coast guard vessel is set to return home after a three month deployment. it departed january 26th for their 90-day operation in the eastern pacific ocean. during its why away they completed a 22,000-mile patrol as part of a counter drug operation which seized and disrupted more than $70 million worth of cocaine. the stratton is named after captain dorothy stratton, the

exploratorium is about to celebrate one full year at its new building on the waterfront. it has been a record year with more than double the number of annual visitors the museum was getting at their old building. the science museum reports twice as many field trip groups and four times as then members. it's cost $300,000 and it's allowed them to expand their programs for teachers. abc7 news is their official media partner. dan ashley got a look at an hands-on exhibit that will soon be available to the public. >> heavy, right? >> he dreamed up this weird thing. >> it's about 180 pounds. >> this is the flywheel dynamo, designed to show how much human energy it takes to make electricity. as the wheel spins it is storing energy. you see how much voltage we are producing. >> 70, 75. >> as the wheel slows, the energy transfers to a generator.

>> this morning nearly two dozens kids had new bikes and training on how to ride safely. the free rides were given out to kids ages 5 to 15 yesterday at the tenderloin public playground. kids were also fitted with helmets. the bikes come from the police department, private donors and an organization that teaches people how to build bikes. >> if you are out there riding your bike, it will be pretty nice out there. >> very nice. a little breezy at times as the clouds begin to move out. lake tahoe, temperatures in the 20s this morning. we are looking for highs in the upper 50s. it will be breezy there, as well. averaging the 60s as soon as tomorrow. we will talk about our weather forecast and how much we are going to warm up in a bit. >> lisa, it was sunny in seattle

there in the east bay. lisa argen says we will be warming upgird to yesterday. she will let you know how your week is shaping up coming up. when it comes to getting around san francisco, the city's official motto is transit first. now the municipal transportation agency is push to go make that a reality by eliminating hundreds of parking spaces. abc7 news reporter carolyn tyler takes a look at the controversial plan. >> parking is scarce in san francisco. so what do you think about turning over 900 spaces on the street to car sharing? the municipal transportation agency wants to start a pilot program this july. >> every shared vehicle on the road means that there's ten fewer private vehicles. there's fewer people competing for the limited number of parking spaces in our neighborhood. >> there are 281,000 parking spots in san francisco but giving up 900 is controversial. >> well, this is already congested now.

>> it seems kind of elitist, doesn't it? >> one of the three companies the city has selected for the two-year pilot is "get around." where car owners rent their wheels to others. >> whether it's having the -- it's heavy usage cars that will be shared with the entire community. >> there's a tiny demonstration project that is funded by a company city car share, who will also be a partner in the pilot program. 12 spaces in this neighborhood have been set aside for car sharing. >> the more cars we can get out there, the more we can provide people the opportunity to get rid of a car or get rid of all cars and go car free and live in the city. >> one goal is to expand the experiment to more far-flung neighborhoods like bay view or the sunset.

>> i have a problem with it. >> there will be a public hearing on a lot of the proposed phases here at city hall starting next month. in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc7 news. starting today, parking meters are no longer free on sundays in walnut creek. last week the city launched their new daily and costly parking meters. the rates doubled to two dollars an hour. meter enforcement is from ten to eight seven days a week. city leaders say it's an effort to have more turnover in the shopping and dining areas. sweeps get past the clouds, maybe a lot of people will be dining. >> yeah. good idea. live doppler 7hd. well, we have the cloud cover all across the bay area. not picking up anything in the form of precip. and look for the clouds to continue to peel back quickly throughout the midmorning hours. so from mt. tam, look at this for this palm sunday. a pretty picture out there with temperatures relatively uniform in the low to mid-50s.

to scour out in our afternoon temperatures to warm up. so here's a look at the plan from about 8:00 this morning and the process lingering along the peninsula, the south bay. also around point reyes and marin county. but by 10:00 we are mostly sunny. some stubborn clouds here from leap mass and point reyes and pacifica should see some sun. the temperature trend throughout much of the work week is up and down. breezy in the sierra nevada, and 59. 78 sacramento. low 60s to return to the coastline with sunshine but 80s for fresno and sacramento. so it looks like a warmer day today, in the upper 60s across the bay. in oakland with 64 in san francisco. 69 san mateo and low to mid-70s returning for palo alto and san jose. 74 in napa, but you head inland and temperatures will climb through the 70s. 78 in livermore. even santa cruz topping out

around 70 today. another look from our roof camera where it is gray right now and plenty of sunshine by 1:00 with low 60s. and the giants turnaround today with upper 60s. 4:00. the accuweather seven-day forecast looking at temperatures slightly warmer around the bay inland today and tomorrow with the coast remaining around 60 degrees. we will cool it back for everyone tuesday and wednesday. might warm again thursday and friday and little change as you head into next saturday. so a couple of spring-like outlook. >> we are in our spring groove. thank you, lisa. >> in sports this afternoon the a's and mariners play their final game in seattle after splitting the first two. yesterday sonny gray shut down the mariners. here's rick kwan with the highlights of this morning's sports. >> good morning. he's just in his first full season with oakland but a's pitcher sonny gray has become the ace of the staff. not quite raleigh fingers but not a bad stash.

oakland got off to a good start with the first with a man on. josh donaldson gets all of this pitch. his second homer of the season makes it 2-0. after a shaky start, gray settles down, giving up just one run over seven innings. tied a career high with 9 strikeouts. in the sixth a confusing moment for yoenis cespedes. he appears to line up with ackley but ackley drops it. the new rules said it is not a catch, but cespedes was already headed toward the dugout. it didn't matter because the a's go on to win 3-1 and take over first place in the a.l. west. to at&t park where runs were short. hunter pence with a throw home n time to get black minnesota. 1-0, rockies. and anderson threw three shutout innings but he hurts his hand. you san see here he's in pain. a bruised left index finger caused him to be done for the

day. the giants were held to just three hits. pablo sandoval had one of them and thought he had another. but from one knee he is gunned down. matt cain pitched well, striking out 8 over 7 innings, but the offense couldn't come through. the bases load, strikes out the panda to end the inning. that's not going to help his contract situation. giants lose 1-0. with their playoff position already set, the sharks close out their regular season last night at phoenix. san jose hoping to finish strong in the desert. the sharks jumped out on top thanks to a pair of first-period goals from joe pavelski. he becomes the fourth player in franchise history to score 40 in a season. and dan boyle in the third with the shot. logan couture tips it in. san jose wins 3-2. the sharks will next play the kings in the playoffs. history could be made today at augusta, where 23-year-old

spieth tries to become the first of that young to win the masters. this is his first masters but he's played like a veteran. he fired a 70. his third straight. and the 50-year-old is sticking up for the old guys. he fired a tournament best 66. just two back. matt kutcher is right there with a 68. he's only one back. 2012 master champ bubba watson began the ground a three stroke lead. a great approach on the second hole sets up an eagle. but he shot 74 which drops him in a tie for first at 5-under. the former texas all american drops this putt for birdie. tiger won his first masters at age 21. spieth would be five months younger. so it's spieth and watson on top. kutcher, are on the top. and in boxes manny pacquiao has won the title by scoring a unanimous decision over bradley. he retains his position. that's the sports.

draw. >> nobody picked all six in that draw either. wednesday night's jack put grows to $49 million. n.a.s.a. will do a spacewalk to fix a computer on the international space station. the broken computer is a serious problem and teams on the ground at n.a.s.a. are trying to determine when astronauts will have to be outside the capsule to replace the hardware. also happening in space this week, a total lunar eclipse will turn the moon orange. it's called a blood moon and it will be the first of four available in north america. it will happen tomorrow night into tuesday morning. the question is will we have clouds blocking our view? >> we will have clouds. but you know what, some portions of the west coast will see it. but this is beautiful from mt. tam right now.
