>> aldon smith in trouble with the law again tonight. he is already facing drunk driving and weapons possession charges in the bay area and now facing new charges after an incident at l.a.x. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm ama dates. aldon smith is out on $20,000 bail after a run in with police at l.a.x. smith is being accused of making a bomb threat at the airport. tmz sports posted this video of 49ers linebacker aldon smith arguing with police after being arrested in the southwest airlines terminal at l.a.x. the trouble started when airport police say smith became belligerent with the tsa agent after he was selected to undergo additional

screening. he apparently told the agent he had a bomb before walking toward a boarding gate. witnesses say smith appeared to be drunk. the 49ers' general manager released this statement following the latest legal trouble. "we are disappointed to learn of the incident involving aldon smith. as this is a pending legal matter and we are gathering the pertinent facts we will have no further comment." smith is due in court and faces drunk driving and ive gamesd five games last. season when he went into rehab after his dui arrest iseptember. >> she a marquis player in the league. kids look up to him. how can you be a positive role model to the kids from you doing activity and negative events like this. >> i am not a niners fan, but if he was on my team i wouldn't want him on my team anymore. he would be cut. >> other 49ers had their own run ins with police. san jose police arrested chris culver on hit-and-run charges last month.

on thursday colin cap -- kaepernick was one of three nfl players named in a miami police report. detectives have not determined if a crime was committed. stay with abc7 news for the latest developments on the story. we will have updates on our website, abc7news.com and on the abc7 morning news at 4:30. a five-alarm fire in san jose is finally out. this is a picture sfpd tweeted out of the fully engulfed building on park avenue and south montgomery street this afternoon. it took firefighters two hours to get the fire under control. abc7 news reporter nick smith is live on the scene tonight with the very latest. nick? >> ama, as you can see, fire crews are still on the scene and looking for hotspots. officials tell me the building was popular with squaters, and it is still not safe to go inside. a fire that started more than eight hours ago is still a problem and they don't know what caused it. >> about a hundred yards away you can feel the heat it was

so intense. >> up close and personal. this san jose residents shot this images. the minutes he saw flames from the window of his condo he grabbed his shoes and camera. >> it was kind of intense. i was nervous being this close. you can hear the sounds. when i was filming where part of the blaze was, you can see the glow of all of the heat distortion. >> it was a building that once housed a tv station and it took more than two hours to bring under control. at its peak more than 100 firefighters attacked this fire, so large thick plumes of smoke could be seen at great american parkway off highway 101. >> there was debris flying toward me, so i turned away because it was hitting my face. i heard a collapse and something collapsed inside. >> what he heard was the roof collapse under its own weight. fire officials say the plan to go inside and look for possible victims was stopped when flames and smoke drove them back. the office building is now a pile of melted steel and

charred lumber. it was once it was to help rain firefighters, but most recently became popular with squaters. >> it appears they have been here for some time. >> according to captain reggie williams some went back to get their things when the fire started. >> we found people pulling things as large as motorcycles out of the rear of the building. >> two firefighters suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. both were treated and released. in san jose, nick smith, abc7 news. >> firefighter investigators are searching for the cause of a five-alarm fire that destroyed three berkeley businesses. 70 firefighters from around the east bay worked for hours to contain flames that broke out near hurst avenue and second street. you can see the spots still smoldering earlier today. the 40,000 square foot building housed the wooden duck joshua tree and the thriving lifestyle furniture stores all gutted bythe the fire. it also caused $1 million damage to inventory at the tile company warehouse. >> boy, i can't believe what i

see. i can't believe it. >> a berkeley firefighter took this photo from a ladder truck to show they normal tee -- the enormity of the fire. federal investigators are releasing information about the tour bus crash that killed 10 people on i-5. five teens, three adults and both drivers died when a fed ex truck crossed a 58-foot wide median and slammed into the tour bus killing high school students from southern california bound for a tour to humboldt state university campus. the bus driver hit the brakes and skid for 145 feet and then swerved to try to avoid the struck. truck. there are no skidmarks indicating the truck's driver tried to brake and no evidence the truck was on fire before the impact. >> it is not just about the what, but the why. the why allows us to issue safety recommendations to prevent these crashes from happening in the future. >> several of the 10 people who died were ejected from the bus. none were watering seatbelts.

five students are among those who lost their lives. a recruiter and two chaperons were also killed in the crash. tonight we are learning more about the bus driver who died. he was originally from san mateo. sergio has more. >> she grew up in the bay area and until a few years ago drove a bus for san trans. friends and family say she is an excellent driver and are shocked she is gone. investigators continue to piece together the crash, but they say it is clear the bus driver slammed the brakes and then tried to swerve to avoid the on coming fed ex truck. she grew up in the bay area. >> back when we were young we used to play softball together. >> reporter: she says the samoan community in the bay area is pretty tight knit so they would see each other often. she is still surprised about the crash. >> first i saw it and went,

wow, what a tragedy. she didn't have to die like that. >> reporter: before driving charter buses, she was a bus operator at san tran for years. one of her fellow drivers there says they used to call her tala for short. she was an excellent driver. in southern california, an emotional cousin spoke fondly of her. >> she was nice, friendly, loved anybody. >> reporter: when the crash happened student miles hill was sitting directly behind her. >> i was in the front right behind the driver. i had a clear view of the truck. it was in perfect condition. the driver must have lost control or something. >> he is still recovering from the crash. he says flames were everywhere when the fed ex truck slammed into them. he tried to help fellow students inside and then managed to get out. >> the next thing i did was kick out the window and booked it. >> he is one of the 48 students on board who were

shooting and killing three people at a jewish community center and a retirement home in overland park, kansas is under arrest tonight. they say he is frasier glen cross, junior. according to the southern poverty law center, the 73-year-old once served as the grand dragon of the carolina knights could you -- ku-klux-klan and they are calling it a hate crime. we are hearing from a jogger who saw a missing woman before her mysterious death. the search teams found the body of 33-year-old glenkowski yesterday. she was reported missing after not being seen at her home sense march -- since march 30th. the marin county sheriff's office focused the area on the

parking lot. a security camera captured this image in that lot. her car was parked there as well. it is also near where a jogger saw someone matching her description. >> she was wearing shorts and she had her sweatshirt. she didn't have a backpack and she didn't look like she had water or anything. it didn't look like she was out for a long hike. >> they found no obvious signs of foul play. they are waiting for autopsy results to see how she died. police arrested a woman in connection with a stabbing at a jack in the box on valley avenue in pleasanton. the suspect, jasmine vasquez, was seen on surveillance video and identified by witnesses. police say she stabbed an employee multiple times before running away. the victim was taken to eden medical center where he was treated and released. vasquez was booked into santa rita jail for attempted murder. pets on pot. arizona vets are reporting an increasing number of dogs

suffering ingest of marijuana. they treat 24 cases a month and the rise started when arizona's medical marijuana dispense res opened a couple years ago. pets eating marijuana is usually not toxic, but the animals have died from eating the synthetic kind. a fearless feline is just fine tonight after getting stuck in a tree this afternoon. san jose firefighters snapped these pics and treated them after the rescue. the cat climbed 50 feet up a tree near santa teresa boulevard. the rescue crews used a ladder to reach the kitty and blocked road access to the area while doing it. maybe the cat was enjoying the nice weather. now here is more on what is to come. >> live doppler 7hd is sweeping around the bay area and picking up some coastal clouds and starting to move into san francisco and parts of the coast.

this live view shows some of the weak marine layer coming out of the trans america tower. in san52 in san franciscn los gatos and 52 in half moon bay. as we show you another live shot a lot of clear skies and it is urnt currently 51 in santa rosa and 50 in napa and some spots are in the upper 50s like concord and livermore at 57. and another view from emeryville looking out toward the bay bridge. here is what you can expect. clear and cool tonight. overnight we will see a little bit of the clouds move in, but not much. so the warmer temperatures tomorrow. breezy and cooler by tuesday. you will notice a significant change on tuesday and immediate week. here is a pacific satellite image. we have a jet stream that keeps the storms to the north and we have a ridge providing a minor warming trend. and that will bring us numbers even warmer tomorrow. and a look at the forecast non

mages -- animation shows cloud cover all along the coast tomorrow morning. it doesn't spell inland at all. this allows us to warm up even more so sunny and warmer with partly cloudy conditions just along the coast. everywhere else is going to be quite clear. overnight lows in the 40s to near 50 degrees. 50 in san francisco and oakland and in san jose. look for 48 in fremont, 47 in palo alto. check out these highs for tomorrow. again in san jose we will be about 7 degrees above average. your high is 77. morgan hill is 83 and even 84 in gilroy. on the peninsula look for low 70s from millbrae to san mateo to mid70s in palo alto and mountain view and 64 along the coast in pacifica. downtown san francisco,68 degrees and that is 5 degrees above aoerage. in the north bay we will see low 80s as well through clear lake and calistoga and napa. in the east bay, mainly in the

there are thousands of teens in foster care who don't need perfection, they need you. was trying to become the youngest masters champ ever, but bubba watson said not so fast, young man. early on it looked like spieth was going to make history on 4. a spectacular bunker shot on 40. and then on 7spieth picks up another birdie. that put him up by two. his lead quickly disappeared when he bogeyed 8 and 9 and bubba watson birdied both of those holes. watson was up by two. spieth hung around on the back 9, but couldn't mount a charge. on 12 his ball ends up in the

thick, black smoke could be seen for miles in the south bay after this huge fire broke out on park avenue in downtown san jose. two firefighters were hurt. they were treated and released on scene. berkeley officials are investigating a six-alarm fire that destroyed four businesses near hurst avenue and second street. the crews were still on scene for a hotspot. the government says it will deploy its forces to quash a pro russian insurgency in the eastern region. there will be an emergency meeting to discuss growing violence. at least one person was killed on sunday in an exchange of gunfire between ukrainian forces and a pro russian militia. at least 16 people are dead as a massive wildfire continues to burn. flames have engulfed the coastal city about 70 miles from the nation's capital of santiago. strong winds are fanning the

flames making it extremely difficult for crews on the ground. 500 homes have been destroyed and 10,000 people have had to evacuate the area. in mexico at least 36 people are dead after a passenger bus slammed that a broken down truck and burst into flames near vera cruz. only four people survived the crash. officials say the victims were business people who were traveling to mexico city. a submarine will plunge beneath the indian ocean for the first time to determine if signals detected by other high tech gear are the black boxes of malaysia flight 370. an australian ship pulling a u.s. navy device hasn't de ect ited new pinging sounds since tuesday. crew yous are also searching the southern indian ocean for signs of debris from the boeing 777. flight 370 vanished march eighth going to beijing. a woman in central florida is recovering from a near death encounter in her own

backyard. it happened when she confronted intruders on her property, the kind whether claws. >> wildlife officials were at the house today with tranquilizer guns and bear traps that terry could have used on saturday. a suspicious noise sent her outs to the back -- backyard and into a fight for her life. she found five bears pawing through her trash. >> one of the bears stood up and knocked her down and started to maul her. >> she quickly became prey. >> the bear actually had my wife's head in its mouth and started to drag her toward the woods. >> authorities say the woman suffered claw injuries to her head. she was able to breakaway and retreat to the safety of her home. >> she just kicked and screamed and wiggled and punched. it was the adrenaline of it all. i guess she broke loose. >> bear encounters are growing more common in this part of florida as expanding development brings the outdoors to the backdoor. >> for this incident to happen

northeastern texas and in areas in southeastern oklahoma and southwestern arkansas and northwestern louisiana. a main road through yosemite is reopening for the season. glacier point road has been closed because of snow and icy conditions. it recently opened to bicyclists and will open for vehicles tomorrow at noon. visitors are urged to use caution on the road. the park service says it may be wet because of melting snow. hundreds of local runners will run in boston. it is qun year after the bombs -- it is one year after the bombs exploded. they were provided with these pictures as they jogged through mill valley. the group includes runners training for boston along with those who ran in previous boston marathons. and a cross country relay ended in boston tonight. one run for boston began in los angeles last month. individual runners carried a baton for 10 to 20 miles before handing it off to other

has to be underground? in this san jose attic among dozens of dusty boxes was an un opened envelope. inside the envelope? a check from 1992 for $3600. it was issueded to carol's husband, richard. she found the check while digging through one of the boxes. >> i was excited and then i was kicking myself saying how could i have let this happen? >> the check came with this brief memo from richard's then employer, toe shiba. it was a work bonus. then it talks about how they calculated his bonus. richard remembers shrugging his shoulders when he heard the news. >> oops. we should have cashed it and then put the money aside rather than put the check aside and not cash it. >> carol was not ready to give up. she called the state controller's unclaimed property division. it is where uncashed checks like this one are supposed to end up.

unclaimed property had no record of it. >> i was a little disappointed. i thought legally there was a requirement to do that. but i didn't know for sure. >> so she called toshiba, but the division her husband used to work for shutdown long ago. no one at toshiba could find any record of the check. >> they basically said the bank had closed the check was drawn on, and there was no possible rers could. perhaps -- recourse. she they said to contact an attorney. >> she called us and we contacted toshiba and contacted the state controller's office. >> we were very concerned because we are enforcing the laws in the state of california. >> under the law, the controller's office should have reported the check after a year. it also should have tried to contact richard after six months. >> we appreciate this coming to our attention. we will send a letter to toshiba and set up a time which we will meet with them and check the records. >> before toshiba received the

audit notice, they decided to reissue a new check to richard. the company says it holds the highest record for current and former employees. we were happy to resolve this case and reissued the 22-year-old bonus check for the exact same amount after our hr department further investigated the situation. >> i was delighted. i was very surprised. >> checks don't expire and the funds need to be turned over to the state if they are unclaimed. unclaimed wages, commissions and ordered refunds must be turned over after one year. most everything else including cashiers checks and ira's life insurance benefits, savings, stocks and bonds must be turned over after three years. rich -- richard gave his new found money to his wife. >> i lost it and she got it. >> the fine for failing to report unclaimed property is 12% per year for each occurrence. in many cases you can e file to get your money back. we have links at
