kristen sze. >> glad to see you on this monday morning. you will be glad to look at the forecast. >> good morning, everyone, as we look from our exploritorium camera to the bay bridge it is a ball sight. we are beginning to wake up to patchy fog and low clouds. they will burn off later. from live doppler 7 hd you can see the returns are not the heavy cloud layer. to get you out the door it will be cooler start to the only but it will warm up by noon. when we pass lunch by 4:00 p.m., it will be sun and warmer and 80's inland. almost 70's around the bay and 62, low 60's around the coast and it will cool off. the seven-day forecast is straight ahead. we head out and see how it is moving along. over the altamont pass, we will look at this, bumper-to-bumper traffic 27 miles per hour is the top speed long 205 to 580 and it

will move along in there and if you are crossing the bridges from san francisco to the golden gate bridge it is nine minutes. and across the san mateo bridge it is 13 minutes. quiet start to the morning. we have a couple of incidents we will get to in a minute. leyla gulen? >> breaking news in redwood city where a pedestrian has been hit and killed by a car this morning. amy hollyfield is on the scene. he was hit and killed at 2:00 this morning in redwood city on middlefield road. witnesses say he was trying to run across the street when the driver's car hit him. the driver could not stop in time. investigators say the driver did pull over and stop and stayed at

the seen and helped with the investigation and answered questions. investigators say they do not think the driver had been drinking or was impaired in anyway. they do not think he was speeding. the man who was killed, he is in his 40's. they are looking into the possibility he may have been under the influence of alcohol. investigators have cleared the scene so middlefield road at pacific is open in redwood city. investigators have gathered the evidence they need and now they will figure out, why did this happen? >> thank you, amy hollyfield. >> firefighters are dealing with several small fires at the same place and the same building where there was a five alarm fire in san jose. officials say three small fires are burning inside the building. crews are watching the situation. the fires are too far into the

collapsed building to go in. firefighters stayed on the scene all night after the fire broke out at 3:00 p.m. which housed a former tv station and was taken over by squatters. arson will speak with two more people inside the building when the fire began. we will have more on the investigation in 30 minutes. we hear from a jogger who saw a missing woman on mount a.t.m. before the mysterious death. the body of the 33-year-old magdalena glinkowski from menlo park was found on mount tam reported missing after not being seen since march 30. the marine county sheriff focused on the area near the boot jack parking lot. a security camera captured this image of magdalena glinkowski in the lot and a jogger reported seeing someone matching her description in the same area. >> she was wearing shorts and had her sweatshirt and she did not have a backpack or water or

anything so it didn't look like she was out for a long hike. >> investigators found no obvious sign of foul lay and are awaiting autopsy results to see how she died. >> a woman is in custody in connection of an incident at jack-in-the-box. investigators identified the woman through felt and statements from witnesses. the victim was taken to the medical center and treated and release. show was booked into jail for attempted murder. a submarine will plunge below the indian ocean to see if signals are the black boxes of malaysia airlines flight 370. the unmanned submarine can create a map of the area to chart debris on the sea floor. crews have not picked up a signal in six days and they feel the batteries are dead.

in another developments crews have located an oil slick and have collected samples. it will take self days to bring them in for testing to determine if the oil is from the missing jet laner. >> southwest airlines says a sacramento flight from california was deferred after a passenger tried to on the cabin door. a man was acting strangely and came out of the bathroom soaking wet. they say he then went to the back of the cabin and tried to pry open a door three passengers tackled him and restrained him until he was escorted off the plane. the flight made it to sacramento two hours behind schedule. >> a san jose police officer charged with rape is expected to enter a plea when he is in court. the 38-year-old geoffrey graves was charged three weeks ago. he assaulted a woman who he escorted to a hotel room after a

domestic dispute. the woman did not report the incident until she was arrested three weeks later for drunk driving. he is free on jail and on paid leave. there is word of another possible problem on the new bay bridge. cable sections and rods on the eastern span are rusting. according to the paper, rust is found inside one of the chambers where a suspension cable is attached. engineering experts say this is significant because it makes the rods and cable inside the chamber vulnerable to cracking. the experts tell the paper it could lead to structural damage. a bridge spokesman says that there is no concern of corrosion. a san francisco board of supervisors committee today is set to hear supervisor scott weiner's proposal to establish a late night transportation plane including officials from the municipal transportation agency, and a.c. transit and bart and

taxi industry looking at safety and ease of access to public transportation if those out late at night. >> today, voters will be asked to increase a sales tax increase to pay for city services considering a tax hike of either quarter of a cent or half a cent for november ballot to go into the general fund or a special tax to be earmarked for public safety. the increase would raise between $800,000 and $1.2 million a year and in but -- in pinole the sales tax now is 9 percent. >> at sfo we do not have flight arrival delays because the fog is not that far inland but we will see cloud cover.

today, it will be the warmest day of the week and tomorrow it will cool off so not so warm tomorrow and then we will see mostly sunshine for the rest of the week with the temperatures steady and higher than tomorrow so 78 degrees and tomorrow is expected inland and one-degree difference as we move further into the week for the bay area. this morning, headed out into the car and driving to work we are up to six miles visibility at half moon bay and a quarter mile or less in novato and relatively unlimited for the rest day area, and without the flight arrival delays here in san francisco we do have a flight arrival delay in chicago at one hour to 1 1/2 hours because of high winds so you can see if you are traveling today there are going to be showers pushing into the eastern states and more on that in a little bit but right now we have traffic and see how things are moving with the traffic green on this map so we are at top speed. this crash, though, is cleared

morning after seven dead babies were found in her home. 39-year-old megyn -- a florida woman was attack by a bear. the 45-year-old woman went to investigate a noise coming from her garage. she found five bears pawing through the crash and quickly one of them turn on her. >> one of the bears stood up and knocked her down and started to maul her. >> i had my wife's head in his mouth and started to drag her toward the woods. >> yikes. >> she was able to get away and is recovering with almost 40

50 in antioch. it will warm up by today and here is a look at our highs across the state under sunny skies and 65 in monterey and 82 in click coe and 66 in lake, and 82 in los angeles and 89 in palm springs so toasty there in southern california. at home, we can expect to see temperatures topping out in the upper 70's if lower 80's, 51 in morgan hill and 77 in san jose and as we move along the peninsula, 77 inned with wood and 65 in pacifica, so we will be cool along the coast. we are under mostly and partly cloudy skies for san francisco, at 68, and we will not breakthrough of the cloud cover today, 73 degrees in petaluma and east bay and oakland expect to see 74 as a high and 72 in san leandro and 75 in castro valley. warmer inland at 79 in pittsburg and 80 in brentwood.

few minutes. >> three, federal investigators say despite witness reports there is in evidence that a fedex truck was on fire before it crashed into a bus in northern california. ten people including five high school students died when the truck crossed the median and slammed into the bus last thursday. >> four, search crews will send an unmanned submarine into the indian ocean to look for debris from the missing jet laner and crews have not picked up any new sounds since last tuesday. they have located an oil slick last night and have collected samples to bring back for testing. >> southwest airlines says a flight was diverted to nebraska after a passenger tried to open a cabin door inflight. a man was acting strangely yesterday before he went to the back of the cabin and tried to open a door. he was arrested when the plane landed in omaha.

it will stay dry for the week. we are going to be in the lower 50's in san francisco and the east bay at 55 degrees in oakland and we will be cooler in los gatos at 47 and half moon bay at 52, and the temperatures will uptick today and cooling off by tomorrow and more of that to come but if you are grabbing the keys and headed out the door, and making it over the altamont pass, pack your patience. it is busy. at 27 miles per hour leaving address and it is slow there. only up to 31 at vasco road and then you are decent through livermore and backing up at the dublin interchange. and a look at the san mateo bridge, the commute from hayward to foster city is moving along at top speed. >> the c.h.p. is investigating a fatal pedestrian accident in redwood city. it happened on middle field road

near pacific avenue after 2:00 this morning. officers say the rim is a 62-year-old man from redwood city. witnesses say he was trying to run across the street when he was hit. the driver is 32 from morning and stopped and is cooperating. the pedestrian may have been drinking before the accident. the c.h.p. has cleared the scene. >> developing news in san jose firefighters are keeping a close eye on several new fires that have popped up inside a former tv station turned homeless hangout. matt keller is at the scene in san jose. matt? >> we have an update from firefighters and there are three active fighters burning in the rubble of the former television station. and they are keeping an eye on them from a distance making sure they don't flare-up. 100 firefighters responded here at park after the fire was first reported around 3:00 yesterday afternoon. this is video from eyewitness who said it took firefighters two hours to get the flames

under control, the roof and second floor of the building collapsed. up to 30 people may have been living in the building. >> we found people pulling motorcycles out of the rear of the building to get their property. >> firefighters say the fire started on the first floor and the arson investigation team is expected out here this morning to check things out and look into the cause. firefighters say they have in way to know if victims are in the rubble and they will not be able to go in until after the arson investigation is complete. >> thank you, matt. berkeley fire investigators will use heavy equipment to dig through the rubble of a warehouse to determine the cause of a five alarm fire on saturday night. flames destroyed three businesses at 2en street and 70 firefighters from around east bay battled the fire for several hours and the 40,000 square foot building housed the wooden duck,

slammed into a tour bus full of high school students from southern california. ntsb officials say the bus driver hit the brakes and swerved trying to avoid the truck. >> we are learning more of the driver of the tour bus who is a bay area woman. she was originally from san mateo. before driving charter buses she was a bus operator at sam tran and fellow drives say an excellent driver. they say the death was a shock. >> i thought what a tragedy...she didn't have to die like that. she loved anyone. >> a survivor sitting behind the driver at the time of the accident says it appears to be the fedex truck lost criminal before the crash. >> we will have the latest

development on the tragedy and follow us at twitter@abc7newsbayarea. santa clara county is working on a plan to get more law enforcement officers patrolling the streets of san jose. the board of supervisors tomorrow will consider using officers from the sheriff's department to bolster the police force involving using unspent police funds to pay if the sheriff's deputies. the police department has excess money because of unfilled positions. before budget cuts the city had 1,400 police officers and now it is down to 970. >> it is mild today. the same as yesterday. compared to the rest of the country we are lucky. though are expensing thunderstorms and flooding and winter weather with big strong cold front. live doppler 7 hd not bringing back any returns and we are looking at patchy fog which

coring santa rosa, berkeley, san jose, and all bay area, this is abc7 news. >> good morning, everyone, at 5:41 on monday, the day before our tax returns are due. did i say that outloud? the traffic on the embarcadero this morning and as we can see, a little bit of cloud cover. leyla gulen will have traffic and weather for us. >> happening today, the doors are re-opening at pittsburgh area high school where 21 students were injured in a stabbing rampage. teachers return to work at the school district and students will visit the school with their families tomorrow and classes will resume on wednesday.

authorities say 16-year-old alex hribal attacked his fellow students with a pair of kitchen knives. no detail on the motive. >> a suspect in kansas is a long time kkk leader after three people were killed at a jewish center and jewish retirement complex on the eve of passover. the suspect is 73-year-old frazier glenn cross. he used to go by the last name of minimummer and a former grand dragon of the ku klux klan. a relative of two victims spoke at a vigil. >> i came upon the scene quickly before the police and i was there before the ambulance. i knew immediately they were in heaven. i know they are in heavy were together. >> among the victims, a doctor

waking up to patchy fog. it looks like live doppler 7 hd shows no returns in terms of precipitation and cloud cover. we will have heavy cloud cover for the morning and that will burn off later this afternoon. with the early morning fog, you can expect to see reduced visibility especially along the coast, at five miles at half moon bay and at novato, at half a mile at santa rosa and unlimited everywhere else. this is because of the high pressure system that is coming in for a short time and it is followed by a low that will come in tomorrow is a warming trend for today and it will cool off and normalize but we have beautiful weather compared to the rest of the country and unstable conditions for the eastern part of the united states and, also, the deep south you can expect to see heavy flooding and, also, some snow as you head into the midwestern state. we do have an hour to an hour

and a half flight arrival delays for chicago because of high wind. at home, do expect to see gusty conditions in the bay area because of the high pressure that is coming in so if you are planning on headed out to the water, the gusts will reach 28 miles per hour. right now, current temperatures at bart are 52 degrees in san leandro and 49 at lafayette and 54 at union city, and 52 at sfo. our highs today around the bay are going to top out in the upper 70's to lower 80's and mostly sunshine and as we head into the overnight hours, temperatures will come back to the upper 80's or lower fists and the seven-day forecast shows dry for the week and the precipitation is what we expected last week and not going to happen by saturday but we will be warm for the spring days in traffic as we take you right out to the drive along highway 4 you can see the buildup of
