>> good afternoon, i'm carolyn johnson. we begin with developing news overseas right now. six people confirmed dead, 300 others still missing after a ferry sank off the southern coast of south korea the only hope is that some are perhaps trapped in air pockets within the ship. many were high school students. divers and boats are searching for possible survivors right now. we still don't know why the ferry sank.

one person says as the ferry filled with water the crew told passengers to stay put and wait for rescuers. another survivor says many are trapped inside. >> we're told stay where you are, but water levels came up. we were beside ourselves, kids were screaming out of terror, shouting for help. >> the water came up to my face. it was a narrow escape from dieing. >> many families in south korea are still waiting for news of loved ones. several families spent the night in a harbor wrapped in blankets waiting to hear news interest there have been in emotional reunions. >> thes call from one student to

. >> i couldn't get a hold of my dog. my dog got burned in there. >> i have a neighbor. he told me flames were high. he couldn't get in. >> this is what remains of a mattress firefighters searched for two people that were trapped inside. inside were 33-year-old niece and her 3-year-old son. . >> i found my nephew's body 45 minutes when that fire. he was hiding from the fire. >> i said the baby didn't make it. >> firefighters recovered a woman's body. with loved ones held back by tape, firefighters became guards. the coroner arrived to take the body away. >> tears.

you never want to see nobody get hurt it's hard. it's hard, oh, god, it's hard. >> in san francisco, abc7 news >> a fire truck crashed into a building leaving six people in critical condition. you can see crews giving aid to people there. this is a live aerial from monterey park the fire truck crashed into the building. there it is right there. struck by a vehicle from a different fire department. crews and police are on scene. the cause of the accident is under investigation. >> the district attorney charged a 55-year-old with arson for the fire of a former television station over the weekend the man was in court this afternoon.

witnesses say he set the fire to this building and homeless people were known to live inside. no word yet on motive. >> santa clara county deputies arrested this registered sex offender saying kevin pickens illegally walked around on the campus last week. >> fbi agents arrested a resident after a raid there. dozens of agents spent the day collecting evidence and waking up the neighborhood. >> this neighborhood had unusual visitors. >> there is a guy in full s.w.a.t. gear here. he just told me to go back inside >> the fbi raided this home on

weapons charge. >> in oakland police looking for a person responsible for gunning down a man this morning around 9:00 they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. he'd collapsed inside of a market. police are talking to witnesses and looking at surveillance tape for clues. >> chp announcing officers will recreate the deadly crash tomorrow near the site in a town of orland. ten people died inlewding five students the chp says it will release copies of the calls associated with the collision >> strong reaction from the chinese american community and leaders who say there is backlash from the public corruption case against leland yee and raymond shrimp boy chow.

now to a dramatic 911 call after a woman was attacked by a bear in her own driveway the call came from her son. . >> i need help in my house >> this morning a harrowing call made by terry's 15-year-old son. she screams in the background having survived a vicious attack in their backyard. >> she's been attacked by a bear. >> she's breathing. she's breathing hard. >> where is the animal? >> in the woods. there was three of them. >> just moments earlier the 45-year-old says an approximately 200 pound black bear had her head in his jaws the bear loosened it's grip she ran and says while being mauled her phone dialled her husband. >> he has a voice mail of five

revelations about the man say police say carried a backpack containing a rice rook cooker to the finish line of the boston marathon. what police say he admitted while planning this hoax. in court, the man accused of a sick hoax that sparked a security scare last night. yelling boston strong, barefoot wearing face paint and carrying a backpack was stopped by police >> they asked what is in the backpack. he replied a rice cooker. >> a year to the day after two bombs detonated near the finish line killing three people,
