live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> the victim of a deadly boating accident on the peninsula has been identified and we are learning more on who else was on board. >> i am katie marzullo. we follow new developments on the deadly boating accident and the yacht club is shedding light on who was on the sailboat and we are in redwood city with no information on the investigation into what happened.

amy? >> police are on the scene talking to people and hope to get out on the water because they have questions. this is not a criminal investigation. authorities have identified the man whether died last night on the sailboat, a 39-year-old from burlingame participating in a sailboat race in redwood city, a total of four people on the board. but the victim was not a member of the club. >> only one was a member as i understand. one may have been a prospective member and the other were guests. >> police investigators say the boat was too close to the permanent channel marker and the rigging was caught in it. the mast snapped and came crashing down on to the crew, killing the victim and hitting another in the head. he is in serious-but-stable condition and also a guest on board. a witness described the chaos as the boat came into the dock. >> they were frantic, telling

everyone because there were people coming in with other sailboats, there were people driving in, get out of the way. >> they were panting in the weekly beer can race, the first one of the season. the club commodore explains clubs around the country hold the races. >> it is not a name we came up with but used for informal races held dug the week and not a regular regatta or series. >> police interviewed the boat owner and do not thing he was under the influence of alcohol. they are investigating this as an accident. the yacht club decided to cancel the race for the next couple of weeks. >> it is devastating. i got here last night at the club, they were in shock. this is not the type of thing people expect when you are going to have a fun evening with friends. >> you can see the boat, the

bella, is here at the dock. the owner is a member of the yacht club and he passed a sobriety test. he gave a blood sample they will be testing. they say he was at at helm at the time of the accident and they are trying to figure out what went wrong. >> san jose police are investigating the death of a nine-month-old boy left inside a vehicle all day. the father was supposed to drop his baby off at the babysitter's house and forgot and parked the car and went to work. at end of the day he came back to find his child still strapped in the car seat unconscious. the boy died a short time later. no arrests arrests have been mae pending review by the district attorney. >> san jose police are on the scene of a car accident that sent two people to the hospital and the enter section of we almaden express way is closed

but it will re-open in an hour. police believe alcohol was involved in the crash. it happened shortly after midnight. a honda want through a red light and slammed into the driver side of a black chevrolet suburban. the driver the suburban was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. >> homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a teen boy, 16-year-old was shot to death last night at 8:30 at country hills and hillcrest drive. when officers arrived they found the teen was shot multiple times. investigators are looking into what happened. they tried to resuscitate the victim but he died at scene. >> sunnyvale is saying good by to the blue cue. workers have started smashing the landmark pale blue structure at the former air force station
