>> good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller in for katie marzullo. we will start with a quick look at the accuweather forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen. how is it looking out there today? >> hi, matt, good morning to you. we have a good marine layer that's intact to about 2,000 feet. not only clouds at the beaches, around the bay. the cooler this morning, 46 in santa rosa, 51 mountain view. more 40s than 50s and that has resulted in temperatures anywhere from a degree to about four degrees cooler than we were yesterday. as you step out this morning, grab a jacket. we will have to wait until we see the sun by early afternoon. when we do it will stay cool and rather gray in parts of the coast. upper 50s to lower 60s

around the bay. mid-60s and upper 60s seasonal inland and eitherrer is a different story. beyond we are talking more changes. i'll have the accuweather seven-day forecast in a few moment, matt. >> thank you. in developing news a woman has life-threatening injuries after a car drove into a bus station in san francisco. it jumped the curve and hit a pole as well as a woman at the bus stop. >> at this time speeds are under investigation and we are looking into impairment. we know she's a 42-year-old san francisco resident. and the driver is also a san francisco resident in his 40s. >> police say they are talking to witnesses. looking at surveillance video to figure out exactly what caused the crash. developing news in san jose. a chp officer recovering from injure vs. us after being hit by a car. it happened on 101 just before

11:00 last night. the officer was injured in his leg. any word if this was a hit-and-run. new developments this morning about that tragic ferry boat accident in south korea. captain and two crewmembers have been arrested. the captain admits he was not at the controls when the accident happened and inexperienced third mate was centering the ship. high school advice principal who organized the trip for students was rescued on the ferry wednesday but was found dead two days later from suicide. in a note he said he wanted his ashes scattered where the ferry went down. at least 32 bodies have been recovered and about 300 people are still miss. in san francisco members of several korean churches prayed today where they gathered last night. they had a certainly good friday sermon. but said the boat trips of common at south korea schools so it had a strong emotional impact on people who are from there. >> in the beginning it was really shock. it became a power to unify

members in the church. >> one person from the south san francisco congregation said a family friend is still missing. >> it could be a month before we learn what caused the death of an oakland woman at a music festival. the 24-year-old collapsed at a taxi area last saturday. she died thursday at the hospital. the riverside county coroner is not ruling out a drug or alcohol overdose. they ordered toxicology tests to determine the exact cause but that could take up to four weeks. the festival kicked off their second weekend yesterday. >> i'm sure people will do it again. i hope is doesn't happen. >> anyone can offer you anything and go with the flow and you don't know about the consequence. >> the promoters say they are saddened by the death. they call it unfortunate, but isolated. >> a street in piedmont covered in dirt following a landslide is back open it this morning.

this shows what was a resident's steep yard. it buries much of the road at 11:00 yesterday morning. city crews spent the morning taking cleaning up the mess. then pg&e took over. it was caused when a 100. pipe in the homeowner's irrigation system broke. >> it's under pressure and it runs all night and people around aware of it, you have concentrated flow coming down the steep slope and it basically causes the soils to flow like a liquid. >> the homeowner may have to pay for the clean up costs. pleasant hill, a car smashed into a building yesterday. two cars collided accepting one crashing through the front door of a busy candy shop. both drivers and two other people suffered minor injuries. no word when repairs are completed so the store is stave

to reopen. this man is a mechanic and he cashed in on the city's soaring real estate market. >> jesse henry's dad was a mechanic so he followed in his footsteps when he opened this garage. he also followed his dad's advice. >> he always said if you get something, you have to buy it. as landlord every time he had a business he had to move his shop and it got to be a headache. >> he bought this building ten years ago. he just cashed in on the white hot real estate market. >> i it for almost $9 million. >> it's a neighborhood that has seen plenty of change in the last few years but the price of his property was considered the most valuable commercial real estate lot in the estimate right here third street and -- >> how much do you think it's selling for. >> the mcdonald's lot? >> yeah. >> let's say $2 million. >> higher.

>> $5 million. >> $17 million. >> smart investor. >> no official offer has been made for the lot just yet and mcdonald's still has a lease here until 2017. back in the mission, jesse henry understands that his sale means more change in this neighborhood. >> i bought this building and that's the big difference between me and the hundred other guys out there renting right now. >> in san francisco, abc7 news. santa cruz police are searching for a pair of teens who attacked and injured an 86-year-old woman while trying to steal her purse. surveillance video shows the two running away. the woman and husband were heading home from dinner on center street when one of the teens tried to grab her purse but it was strapped across her body. woman fell to the ground and broke her hip, but she held on to the purse. the san francisco police are looking for two when who tried to rob a dog owner but he ended

up argue with the owner. intact pit bulls are prized by some people. >> getting pups, purchasing whatever else it is. if they want to fire dogs or anything else, they are looking for dogs who have not been sterilized. this dog's owner, guardian, just lost his best friend. >> turn out the robbers stabbed the dog. he did not survive. the owner was not injured. >> police are trying to track down those responsibility for a series of robberies in brentwood. five people were robbed at gunpoint between 8:15 and 9:30 thursday night. police say the robbers also used pep spray in two incident but no one was seriously injured. thursday night there there a bart train derailment in concord. a operator tried to move it on a sidetrack without a main track without approval. no passengers were on board at the time. it's the second time in two months a bart train has derailed in contra costa county.

bart's new cars are causing controversy, not over the cars but the color of the seats on the new trains. they are the colors of the seattle seahawks. 49er fans are not pleased. one fan started a change.org petition asking bart to reconsider the colors of the new seats. this morning people in san francisco have been waiting in line overnight outside a store for this new shoes. line is outside the nike san francisco store in union square. check out how long that line is. people want to be the first to nab a pair of nike air pro seescy. the shoes sell for $250. what a name, too. not bad for them right now. a little cool. >> a little little cool. clouds are insulating us. more of a marine layer than we've had the last couple mornings. it will take time to burn off of the 50 in the city. cooler day today and much warmer for easter and some rain to talk about when we return.

coworker was depressed and reportedly showed her a bag of bullets. they said the man is not a newspaper employee but works for a call center that rents office space in the budding. right now police are saying no weapons were recovered. officers did not have far to go to get to the seen. l. a. p. d. headquarters is right across from the times building. an emotional reunion for seven-year-old twins who fought off a carjacker with nothing but a toy snake. ron claiborne has their story. >> a mother in tiers, but relieved. two of her children shaken but okay. a joyful but i believe problem ab end to a parents nightmare. a man stole this couple's car with their three children inside. >> when i couldn't see the car anymore i said i don't want my kids -- he will do something to my kids. >> the drama in san antonio texas captured on the police dispatch audio tapes. >> a he will nissan, three kids

and a ford pickup and two other vehicles plowed into the store. the woman was pinned against the wall but her injuries are not serious. a resupplied cargo carrier to the international space station, called the dragon, is in orbit. >> a lift off, and brag gone. space x is underway. >> the mission is nearly five weeks away. it was plagued by contamination concerns. it is bringing hemoium supplies, experiments and supplies to the space station. it shot dock tomorrow morning. it is also carrying a unique small satellite aimed at the aims research center in the silicon valley. it's a cube sat. it will show how it will spin and launch the sprites into orbit. the model for the cube sat went through three major design changes. >> we would come up with an

company again and they sent richard $70 to get the ring resized plus this gift of a single red garnet. the owner said we have thousands of very satisfied customers and normally things go smoothly. because i was unable to work when my wife became ill, mr. williams ring was mistakenly return to the supplier. it was then shipped back and i have now sent it to mr. williams. i have also sent him a valuable garnet as a bonus gifts, and i apologize for the delay. >> i am really pleased with 7 on your side. i really am. >> i would like to thank jim's bond jewelry for coming through with the gifts and the ring. he said his channel will be back on the air soon. michael finney, 7 on your side. san francisco police arrested a diver who hit a fire truck and then took off. >> happened on 9th street. the woman was driving a u-haul van down the alley.

when she turned she hit the fire trucks. then they drove on. the firefighters chased her. a man traveling in. u-haul was also detained but not arrested. >> the city of san francisco honored the firefighters and other personnel who responded to the massive mission bay fire last month. among those recognized police officers, dispatchers and parking control officers who coordinated parking around the blades. animal control officers were also honored for looking after pets that fled the fire. they made a pitch for a $400 million public safety bond that would appear in the june ballot to upgrade police and fire services. >> we have these bonds that are actually representations of promises to our public. if you support those things, we are going to take care of you. >> the fire department showed off its high pressure emergency firefighting water system this took water from the bay to put out the huge blaze several

blocks away. it's getting harder to get into u.c. berkeley. they accepted fewer students. only 12,000 were accepted. nearly 150,000 students applied to the system. 58% were accepted. that's up almost 2% over last year. asian-americans make up the largest ethnic group admitted and for the anytime there were more latino admissions than white. happening today, san francisco will hold their annual earth day celebration. green community will hold a special parade down market street starting at 11:30 from justin herman plaza. it will end at the united nations plaza where they will gather for music and demonstrations and special performances. it runs from 10 to 6 at the united nations plaza. good news for them, no rained to. >> no. there's a cherry blossom festival, lots of egg hunts. a lot going on. but the warmer day of the weekend will be tomorrow. so if you are making plans, it should be significantly warmer

next weekend. so this is is a weak system. not going to affect us except to keep the on shore flow with us. that will allow for the the breezy winds at the coast. we will keep it pretty much status quo today. then tomorrow it will be nice and sunny. sun coming up at 6:28 and much, much warmer. so we will look for numbers to significantly climb. in fact, the warmest day of the week will be tomorrow. so here's a look at the next several hours, including tomorrow. we have the fog at the coast. then fast forward through monday. we are cloudy monday morning. look what happens. we will begin to see showers develop. monday night, here they are across the north bay into the east bay and 10:00 still have the cloud cover and the system will provide more unstable air and perhaps more showers into tuesday. but the look ahead in livermore with today temperatures a little bit above average. look what happens tomorrow for easter. then here comes the trough, the next system. then temperatures climbing a little bit as we head toward the end of the work week. so highs today in the low 70s.

bay. it's 50 half moon bay. the fog is at a higher level so we are looking at pretty good visibility. but it's going to take some time to burn off. as we go through the next couple hours you will notice we have it banked up along the coast for the afternoon. so it's going to be cool here once again. more like a summertime pattern. but these onshore winds are going to back off and we are going to see a significant warmup for easter sunday. will it last? the short term answer is no. in fact, we are looking at maybe some rain coming back into the picture. i'll have the forecast in a few minutes. matt. >> thank you, lisa. today pope francis will take part in an easter vigil at saint peter's basilica. he he led a torch lit procession marking the way of the cross. thousands lined the streets holding prayer books and candles marking the bay jesus died on the cross.

tomorrow there will be a service in st. peter's square. president obama is encouraging americans to draw strength from the easter and passover holidays. he said holy week and easter are times for reflection and renewal. he said the common threat of humanity is a shared commitment to loving our neighbors as ourselves. he said there's no better time for people to rededicate themselves to that mission. >> before we had the roots and miracles that took place long ago, and yet they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. they remind us of our responsibilities to god and as god's children our responsibilities to one another. >> the president also said the easter story is one of hope and faith this better days are yet to come. president obama will hit the mountain view headquarters of tech start-up y commentator as part of his visit to the bay area next month. according to "the chronicle" he will hold a may 8 fundraiser

march 9th and 8.2 off chile may continued. and some in baja, mexico and acapulco. we have a report from the usgs headquarters in menlo park. >> the earthquake in acapulco caused a wall of a building to collapse in mexico city. it's the latest reminder this is the most seismically active region in the world. the ring of fire stretches from 25,000 miles up the pacific, across japan, up north america and swinging past south america. earthquake experts at usgs said the faults along the mexico coast have been building up stress but the templars have not been extraordinary. >> they haven't been very large earthquake. they have been a rank of sizes and the range of sizes and occurrences we are seeing is what we typically would see over sort of a long -- this time of

span, you know, with variations in activity that it's pretty common. >> however, the pattern of earthquakes can be disturbing. we've seen the destruction in japan in 2011. there have been two in chile. and a 5.1 earthquake in orange county last month. the bay area sits on the ring of fire too. the 1989 moment we had a earthquake set fires, damaged the bay bridge and created deep cracks in roadways. >> where the faults have more movement we expect more frequent, large effects on the fault. that's typically the plate boundaries such as the pacific ring of fire. >> technology is making strides in predicting earthquakes. >> including mexico city. >> an earthquake warning system activated during a news conference in pasadena. a similar system gave mexico residents time to take shelter. >> it gave them 70 seconds of warning before it arrived and

>> and aequat race will continue today following a week long stop in the bay area after a sailer fell overboard. they will embark on leg 76 the race from san francisco to new york via the panama can. a sailor late last month was thrown overboard during the race. today activities will be stepping down in the name of portland living. -- their goal is to call attention to greener way of living. it gets underway at 11:00 from justin herman plaza in san francisco. what again with the best of intentions turned into a fight between a homeowner with chickens and a marin county neighborhood association with rules against them. wayne freedman picks up on the story in kentwood lands.

temperatures to linger into tuesday. we will modify numbers after that. things will stay interesting around here for the next seven days. this weak system allowing for the on shore flow to stay with us today and that brings high to mid-level clouds from time to time, but also the breezy west winds. then tomorrow the sun coming up 6:28. and the on shore flow pushing back. it will lighten up and that will allow for a high pressure to temporarily boost temperatures into the 80s. even low to mid-60s at the coast. that's about five to seven degrees warmer than we will be today at the shoreline. so there's the fog. here's the rest of today. the sunny day tomorrow. monday we've got the clouds pushing across the bay. monday evening a few showers around here from san francisco, the north bay into vallejo, perhaps richmond and by monday night we have plenty of cloud cover and more shower activity on tap for tuesday. the week ahead, though, pretty interesting in san jose and the
