a shattered windshield diverts a flight. and the deadliest incident ever on mount everest. how a bay area man managed to survive. it was a pretty loud -- pretty loud crash. >> a day of boating turns deadly after two fishermen were thrown into the water. only one of them survived it happened during a fishing competition on the delta in contra costa county. >> the victim and his friend were taking part in a bass fishing tournament when things went wrong once thain came near this bridge.

>> this intersection is one of the most dangerous in the delta. >> reporter: even the most seasoned boaters know to be careful on these waters. five channels meet under this bridge. and the current moves fast. >> you will go a block in five minutes. >> reporter: at 11:00 this morning there was an outgoing strong tide and something hit the boat's bottom ripping the motor off and sending the two in the water. both were wearing life vests. the victim's may have malfunctioned. >> did it look like it was deployed? >> it was not. >> reporter: this woman spent hours scouring the waters from her paddle boat. >> they found him where we were looking too which makes it hard for me. i was right there. >> reporter: and at rusty port hole restaurant where the tournament started there was a moment of silence in honor of

the dead boater. >> it could be one of my kids or one of my friends. could be anybody, you know, it doesn't matter who it is, we just care. >> reporter: the sheriff's department is investigating. lisa amin gulezian, abc 7 news. a police officer is out of the hospital tonight. this is how he got hurt. the suspect's vehicle and the patrol car collided in the sunset district. >> it sounded like a car crash and the car kept on going. i went back to sleep. i thought it was the garbage pickup. >> the crash ended in a pursuit with the start of a woman being robbed in the richmond district. two suspects, the driver and passenger were arrested on charges ranging from driving a stolen vehicle to a felony in

possession. the police want to hear from anyone who saw a driver plow into an officer last night. a silver sedan veered toward the shoulder and hit a patrol car before striking the officer and driving away. two officers were giving a driver at ticket at the time. the injuries officer is recovering. passengers on a flight from new york to sfo were diverted less than two hours into the flight when a cockpit window shattered. we are live at sfo now with details. >> reporter: one of the pilot's windows shattered but didn't blow out. the cabin pressure was never effected. a lot of the passengers say they didn't notice when it happened. and then the captain came over the loud speaker and said they were landing at the closest possible airport, indianapolis. this is a picture of the shattered cockpit window taken

by a passenger as he was getting off the plane in indianapolis. he was surprised by the flight interruption. >> why are we landing in indianapolis? >> reporter: he along with a few passengers said that the crew handled the diversion smoothly. >> the pilot came on calm and measured and said there is a problem with the windshield in the pilot's cabin and we are landing in indianapolis. >> reporter: other passengers say it was abrupt. >> there was a hard turn to the left and the plane started descending. then they announced it was a precautionary landing. >> reporter: adrian shot a photo from the terminal at indianapolis airport where they were delayed for two hours for a replacement jet. the damage is not as clear as the one shot by the other passenger. i showed her the other picture. >> that is more drastic than i

coming down into the 40s and some 50s. napa, 52, petaluma, 46 and 56 in concord. now today's highs were near normal as we look like from emeryville there is cloud cover coming in from the coast. highs today in san francisco, it was 60. that's three degrees below normal. now we do have a bit of a warm up tomorrow and a chance of rain in the accuweather seven-day forecast coming up in my next report. police now say they believe 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick was not in a hotel room when 911 calls were placed about a naked woman in miami. she said she had a past sexual relationship with kaepernick and blacked out after drinking shots and smoking pot with the players. police are reviewing surveillance video to see where he was at the time. the warriors began their

13 bodies were recovered today from the wreck of the sunk south korean ferry. that brings the known death toll to 46. hopes are dwindling that 250 passengers listed as missing could have survived. alex stone has the latest. >> reporter: a fourth day of rescue efforts saved more lives only bodies from a watery grave.

from the surface of the sea, no visible trace of the ferry or the close to 300 passengers, mostly young students who went down with it. the bleak search falls to these divers who have the task of getting into the wreck. divers broke a window to recover three bodies. the goal is to reach the ship's cafeteria where many passengers are thought to have been trapped. this osprey from the u.s. is aiding the searchers. prosecutors claim that the third mate was at the helm for the first time trying to steer the doomed vessel in treacherous waters. the captain was in his bedroom when the disaster struck. he saved himself even as some passengers clung for their lives to the ship's hull. it was too late for one

there. experts say they are confident the mountainside won't suddenly collapse like the washington state tragedy. 42 homes and apartment units have been evacuated. they can't shore up the earth until it stops moving. crews are trying to keep a 50-foot sinkhole from causing more damage this morning. two homes have been evacuated. officials say the hole opened about three weeks ago but was then filled. it opened up again last night because of heavy rains there. a woman in ohio is making a statement about potholes by planting flowers in them. if you can plant flowers in potholes that have been filled they are not fixed. the county engineer says his crews are working overtime to fix the problem. it's been a beautiful weekend so far. we now have your easter forecast. >> definitely beautiful but
