information this morning. we know there are at least three agencies looking into the incident that led up to the flight. they also want to know if the details of what the teen told them are true. >> you think, my goodness, they didn't see anything? >> apparently not. officials with mineta san jose did not have much to share when asked how the 19-year-old scaled the fence, avoid being slighted by barbed wired and made his way across the that mack and climbed into the wheel of a plane without being stopped or spotted. >> every almost is not 100 percent and this teen did scale a section of our perimeter fence under the darkness and was undetected. >> he was seen wandering the tarmac in maui and was dazed and confuse asked claimed to hitch a ride on a hawaiian airlines jet the he is exceptionally lucky to be alive if he rode in the could

compartment governor five hours. several parts of the story do check out. investigators say they have surveillance video of the 16-year-old hopping the fence at san jose international airport having run away from home on sunday morning. there is also video of him crawling out of the landing gear in maui an hour after the flight landed. >> still, questions on how he survived. >> he looks pretty good from what i could see. a young juvenile did not appear to be dirty or greased up from claiming to be in a wheel. >> officials work to confirm the story passengers are asking, how did this happen? it doesn't make sense. >> spotlight, again, on airport security and if enough is being done to keep passengers safe. >> we will continue to review what happened here to ensure that it does not happen again. >> the f.b.i. says the teen posed to threat to the airline or the airport and so far has

not been charged with a crime. our chief medical editor is weighing in on the medical aspect of this story. he says a possible explanation how the teen survived is hibernation. >> with hibernation, as we see in animals, breathing is down to a couple of time as minute, heartbeat a couple of time as minute and if you slow down enough you do not need so much oxygen and you can survive but it is nearly impossible and maybe there is more to the story. >> the doctor says at that altitude two things can happen, usually fatal. the one, you do not get enough oxygen and you die and the other is hyperthermia because it is minus 50 degrees in the wheel well. >> follow us on twitter for breaking news updates at abc7

news bay area. in the east bay oakland police are investigating a deadly accident after a car slammed into a pillar near a bart station at 5th and union around 1:30 this morning. a white mercedes plowed into a pillar that supports the bart tracks near west oakland. the passenger was killed. the driver was taken to the hospital with significant injuries. police believe the driver may have been speeding. there was no damage to the bart column. pg&e enter as three in federal court as the united states attorney announced they hope to punish the utility company more than first expected in connection with the deadly pipeline explosion. amy hollyfield is at the federal courthouse in san francisco. at first, it looked like pg&e could be fined $million if found guilty. now it is looking like it could be a lot more. the indictment accuses the company, pg&e, of neglecting to inspect the pipe lane that

exploded in 2010 which would be a violation of the federal pipeline safety act. the prosecutor announced there is a united states code that allows prosecution to seek as much as two times the amount of profit the company earned or saved as a result of the misconduct and the united states attorney plans to go after that amount. they did not say how much that is and 9 city officials say it would take an accountant to come up with the figure but they are they willed to hear the news. >> we look forward to pg&e being fined at the maximum amount allowed by law as a message not only to that corporate but to the industry that neglect, mismanagement, along with failure to meet the trust and confidence of the citizens they serve will not be tolerated. >> pg&e released a video statement before the proceedings saying no employee intentionally caused the accident and called

it a tragic accident. no one from pg&e was in court or here to respond to the proceedings but the attorneys for together together entered not guilty pleas. the explosion killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes much the city says if pg&e is fined by the court, it hopes the money will go to making the system a safer system. a former san francisco firefighter accused of hitting a motorcyclist while driving drunk on duty appeared in court. michael quinn was briefly in court for the arraignment but postponed for a second time. investigators say quinn hit the motorcyclist at 5th last june. this is surveillance video of the crash obtained by the abc7 news team. he has resigned from the department and facing three years in prison and due in court may 8. >> a record number of runners take part in the first boston marathon since last year's bombings. police are out in force along

city when a suspect rushed a witness stand and the marshall shot the suspect who is in the hospital with a chest wound. sherpa guides are considering a climbing boycott after the deadliest recorded avalanche. they are burying 13 sherpas who died and three others are missing and presumed dead. a sonoma county man credits his sherpa with saving his life. >> prayers and funerals for six of the avalanche victims. hundreds of people line the streets of the capital as the bodies were driven by decorated with buddhist flags. the sherpas have declare add weak of mourning and will not go above base camp during that time. >> in sonoma one family rejoices in connecting with their husband, fee, climber. >> i was so relieved he called

hands as the sherpas decide if they are boycotting with demands for the government including more insurance company, more financial aid for the families of the victims and regulations that would ensure the rights of climbers. the governments will "consider" the demands. >> tomorrow is ten years since the death of pat tillman from san jose who left pro football to join the military eight months after the 9/11 attack left the cardinals and joined the army. the 27-year-old was killed by friendly fire in afghanistan on april 22, 2004 and it is not clear who shot him but likely one of three army rangers. for the first time one of ranges is speaking out about what happened that day. he tells our sister network he cannot shake the fact it could be his fault. >> why do you feel accountable? >> because i made a decision to fire. it was my decision, my responsibility, and i made that

choice. >> he apologizes to the family but says saying you are sorry feels inadequate. >> espn will air a one hour special tomorrow devoted to the life and career of pat tillman "outside the lines," tomorrow at 5:00 on espn. >> new developments in the south korean ferry disaster starting with the rising death toll and 86 people now are confirmed dead and 200 are missing mostly students. this morning the president of south korea is accusing the ferry captain and crew members of "unfor giveable murderous behavior." she says the captain told passengers to stay put on wednesday while the crew was the first to escape. this is video of the captain receiving medical treatment and thousand is under arrest along with two crew members on suspicion of negligence and abandoning people in need. today four our career members were detained.

the peninsula but not so warm. we will be in the upper 50's to low 60's in downtown. and through the north bay mid-60's to low 70 and ten degrees cooler, to 15 degrees cooler at the beaches and mid-to-upper 60's along the east shore shore. at the game tonight rankers are hand and it will be dry, dress for 60 at 7:00, clouds and 56 by the end of the game. tonight, the temperatures are mild in the upper 40's to low 50's and you can see how scattered the showers are where the green representing where the rain is possible. at noon, we have clouds and you can see a few breaks headed to the evening hours and watch by 10:00, the front moves into the north bay and steady and light rain and the front falls apart and that is it, we are over by 7:00, and by noon tomorrow, it will be partly cloudy and breezy

and although we will see more sunshine tomorrow, that cooler air will drop our temperatures a couple more degrees than today. the rainfall amounts is nothing to possibly .1" and that is in the higher elevation near the coast. the seven-day outlook shows two to four degrees cooler tomorrow, temperatures are rebounding wednesday into thursday with increasing clouds and friday is the coolest day with what could be a significant soaker and that will clear out and bring us a normal saturday and sunday now trending more dry. not so warp as we what we lived influence but it will be dry, so get ready tonight and through tomorrow morning and back on wednesday. that defeats the whole purpose of ice cream but there are unusual new ice cream flavors. the company is launching two vegetable flavors, tom hate to and cherry and carrot orange, launched in japan, first, next month. so far, there are no plans to try the flavors in the united states and i know you are
