it you will see it loosen up but it is tack on minutes. highway four is clear and 101 southbound from san rafael to san francisco is 17 minutes and in san jose, 280, away from 17, empty out there with no problems through san jose at this hour. breaking overnight, at least one person is injured after san jose state university students make a harrowing escape from an harm building -- an apartment building fire. matt? >> this was a close call. you can see the damage from the fire at this apartment complex a block away from san jose state. firefighters believe a match started it and a cell phone saved the life of a young man. here is cell phone video showing the flames. it started at 11:30 on east williams and south eighth street and they were told a young man in a third floor apartment lit a candle and tossed the match on to a couch.

he walked outside and saw the couch on fire and used the cell phone to call the room hate to get out and he ran through the flames to escape and a neighbor explained what he saw. >> i saw a big fire, and i knew it wasn't good. i didn't know what would happen after that. >> the roommate escaped but he was taken to the hospital with second-degree buns and a second person was treated for smoke. three units were affected and 11 people were displaced and they will be straying with friends or the red cross will step -- will help them out. a relative sheds new light on why a santa clara teen risks his life to run away from home in the wheel well of a maui-bound flight. katie marzullo is in the newsroom with an interview you will only see on abc7 news.

to figure out where he opened near inside a daly city medical building. amy hollyfield is in daly city with that story. eric, workers at the medical center will be relieved when they get to work this morning to hear that he has been taken into custody. police made an arrest late last night. they believe that 84-year-old raymond iwase walked into this medical center in daly city year afternoon and opened fire. this is located on southgate avenue. a doctor heard a gunshot as he was running from the gunman on the 2 floor and police evacuatedded building and searched if hours and that sent a chill through the neighborhood. a band concert was canceled and the preschool but the kids on lockdown. >> there was something odd outside and they put the kids in a safe spot. they were safe. >> no one was hurt in the

incident and everyone got out of the medical building safely including the gunman and it wasn't until after 10:00 last night that police found their man and they arrested him in the daly city home. officers say they found a gun and ammunition in his house. they have not said what the motive is but he is booked on attempted murder. police will brief us later this morning. thank you, amy hollyfield. in oakland, police are investigating a shooting that left a young woman dead. officers found the victim on 105th avenue around 9:30. the 21-year-old woman was taken to high land hospital but did not survive and no word on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or if there is any suspect. new clues emerge from the father of the santa clara stow away who hid in the wheel well of a freezing and treacherous flight to hawaii and the
