live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. this is the messy drive facing commuters: there were traffic troubles from here to lake tahoe. we woke up to a lot of rain with commuters on the san mateo bridge had their wipers on moving across the span. it is wet on the embarcadero, too, with people getting out

their umbrellas. this is the east bay at valley avenue. meteorologist mike nicco is on the roof. >> good morning, everyone. right now you can see they are not using the umbrella but it is close to my side because more rain is on the way. live doppler 7 hd shows the strongest cell is east of crockett and will move to fair. that is a better one. you can see north of davenport the strawberry fields are getting light rain and off the coast we see the scattered showers with no ton -- thunder. we get a brief break the next hour. you can see headed to san francisco and marin, a next shower with the line opening us to afternoon and evening showers. that is are we can have the lightning, hail, that will become breezy. if you have plans, toward 9:00, we will start to see the

and that is causing traffic to be held back along 80 and donner lake. >> can you track the weather with the apple app and google play with information at abc7 news.com/app. >> right now from san jose, the police need your help in catching two brazen armed robber whose burst into two 7/11 stores. they terrorized the people inside and prompt add shelter in place for the neighborhood at mar fin and mount pleasant. matt keller has the hunt for the gunmen. matt? >> the search ended two hours ago and the police lieutenant is disappointed they could not catch the two robber whose robbed two different 7/11s and they hold evidence will lead to their arrests. the wake-up call was unpleasant. police officers were wearing ballistic helmets with rifles

going door to door searching for two armed robbers. this is as dangerous as it gets, an unknown suspect, in an unknown location, searching people's become yesterdays. >> officers searched if these two men seen in this surveillance video. at 4:30 in the morning they hop the counter and the clerk put up his hand and stole cash from the register, lottery tickets and merchandise. check this out: as a second robber hopped the counter he steals a behalf unanimous, the worker was not work and the 7/1 is a popular stop for residents who were not surprised it was hit. >> each morning the guy is pretty cool and he is a friend and he says twice a month he is problems. >> 20 minutes later the same two men went to a 7/11 on martin avenue and problemmed that car and spotted by officers and chased into the neighborhood.

a perimeter was set up and the search started at 6:40 this morning and residents were told to lock their doors. police found evidence they went through the neighborhood but they were able to break the perimeter and escape. the search ended at 9:00 a.m. with in arrests and no relief. >> i am scared. scared. they might come back again. >> lottery officials came back and now is part of the investigation and he told me that although the two robbers were wearing ski masks and took the lottery tick coats and cash from the 7/11, they will not wear masks when they cash them in and they hope they cash their faces on surveillance cameras. a pit bull is treated for injuries after san francisco police shot the dog during a call in the visitacion valley neighborhood last night on brookdale avenue near the golf

course. police were responding to a call and they say a pit bull came out of a neighbor's door and charged at the officers. the officers opened fire and hit the dog in the leg. animal care and control say that the dog will survive. the national transportation safety board has released the preliminary report in a deadly crash involving a tour bus and a fedex truck on interstate 5. it happened two weeks ago west of chico. the investigators say the fedex truck sideswiped a wipe nissan before plowing into the bus and does not explain why the fedex truck veered off court. ten people were killed including five high school students from southern california. they were on their way to visit hum belt state university. the ntsb said it could be months before a final report is come float. >> parents are warn of an ugly threat to children from social media. amy hollyfield joins us with the details. >> school officials sent an mail

alert to parents and we met some parent whose did not hear about it and officials say spreading the word and talking about this is key. >> a predator is lurking on instagram and reached out to kids. some either ready being asked to send inappropriate pictures of themselves. >> wow, my kids will not have a that >> superintendent wants to protect the students. >> we have a couple of students who did come and report they knew other students might have. we have contacted the parents. >> parents say their kids do have instagram accounts but they are confident they would not respond to a stranger. >> she is pretty good, i trust her, it is all, basically, the parent and child relationship. too. ought superintendent says that is good, we should trust kids

and give them the tools they need to navigate social media but talking to them about internet safety is not a one listen time deal. >> you could say something about a specific. social media outlet and tomorrow it would change, it is just another opportunity to say "in case this happens...." >> the superintendent is very proud of the students who came forward and they did the right thing. she is working with the police department to try and figure out who is sending the messages. tax bill? the warriors could be giving up on the fans as they are in the playoffs. >> the move is not a slam dunk

but the controversy is. >> true. several things have the warrior fans fired up this morning but the big one espn is reporting they considering changing their name, in honor of the future home base. if the warriors leave oakland they could also leave behind the name. espn is reporting that the warriors could consider becoming the san francisco warriors, again, as they were called from 1962 to 1971. the c.e.o. says they would want fans to be asked. >> here is the bart station. >> plenty of feedback last night in oakland for a future coliseum city. >> it is great if it serves the residents that live here and not displace us. >> it would include three new sports venues, retail, housing and entertainment and the oakland planners low pressure to entice the warriors to stay put with the a's and the raiders. >> the plan will have a wonderful environment for the new venue for our teams when or

if they want to participate. we will have a place for all of them. >> this week the warriors announced they bought 12 acres in san francisco and maps to build an arena for the 2018 season. according to the lease agreement, if the warriors leave oakland before 2027, they are obligated to pay off the debt on the arena project. that is adding up to about $61 million. if the team doesn't pay, taxpayers are on the hook. the warriors say they don't owe anything beyond 2017 when the lease expires. sources say that the leasization will end up in litigation and we want did know what you think of the possibility of a name change and the warriors becoming the san francisco warriors by joining the conversation on our facebook page. it is already fairly heated. >> a remainder, the warriors.

invitation to the prom, member of the national honor society attacked inside the school early this morning. the high school in milford is closed for the day and a junior prom which was scheduled for tonight has been postponed. >> officials are investigating three fires in 20 minutes of each other in san francisco, and one at a suspected marijuana grow house. the first fire broke out at 6:15 this morning in the bayview district and firefighters found what could be a marijuana grow operation and eight minutes later, another fire broke out on bank street and a third fire broke out eight minutes after that, as well, with no one hurt in any of the fires and investigators do not think they are related. >> we have new details, a san jose state football player has been identified we as the student would suffered second-degree burns in an apartment fire on wednesday night. he is a martinez native and sedated at a high school burn board and has burns over 30 percent of his body.

that fire broke out on wednesday night at an apartment complex on south 8th and east williams street while he was asleep in a room. the football coach said that the injuries are lited to his skin, and says he will probably be in the hospital for a while but it is not a matter of "if" but when he runs to the football field. >> controversial comments on race from a nevada rancher at the center of a stand off with the federal government. bundy made headlines for letting his cattle feed 50 of government-owned land and refusing to pay $1 million in grazing fees. the move drew support from several republicans but his racial remarks saying african-americans were better off as slaves than they are now, and slave to welfare, is drawing widespread condemnation from republicans and democrats alike. this morning, bundy stood by his controversial comments during an interview with cnn. >> if those people cannot take those words, and not be

covering cupertino, concord, wine country and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. need another excuse to drink coffee? it could help revent a serious disease which could happen much faster than first thought. a new study from harvard fines people would drink more coffee reduce their risk of tight 2 diabetes. the connection is not new, a study in 2002 proved it could be beneficial. researchers say drinking an extra cup of day over four years cuts chances of type 2 diabetes by 11 percent. and those month cut the dose by a cup were 17 percent more likely to be diagnosed. previous studies have suggested the chemical compound in the coffee, not the caffeine, are responsible. another excuse? >> not that we need any if you wake up before 2:00 in the morning. >> and driving in the rain.
