>> good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm matt keller in for katie marzullo. we will start with a quick look at the "weather forecast of the here's lisa argen. how is it looking for today? >> good morning. we do have some clouds around this morning but the beg headline are the cool temperatures. in fact, numbers up in the north bay, santa rosa has dropped to 39 degrees. we in the 40s. 45 san ramon volley and 45 livermore and 48 half moon bay. a little bit of fog throughout the morning. a big difference since yesterday at this time with a lot of cloud cover and the rain. about 14 degrees cooler in north bay, 8 degrees cooler in mountain view and little fog from napa. half-mile visibility, 7 miles on the coast and two miles by the

delta. we have a few area of high clouds ahead of the next system that may bring us the few light rain showers. in advance it will allow for mostly cloudy skies, 60s elsewhere, we will talk about the timing of the rain in a few minutes. >> thank you. breaking overnight, two people are dead after their car hit a tree in menlo park. it happened near the willow road off ram on 101 just before 2:00. officer said the driver was seeding before losing control and hitting a tree. the car ricocheted in another tree and going the driver and passenger died at the scene. one man is dead after a another accident. >> a man could chase charges

after getting into a fight with a driver while he was on his bike. it happened in mill valley. abc7 news reporter nick smith reports the beating was so severe witnesses thought the victim might die. >> there needs to be some sort of better system, better bike lanes. >> he's talking about this stretch where narrow lanes make it difficult for cyclists and cars to shirt road. police say there was a fight between a driver and cyclist led to one man being arrested and the other being badly beaten. >> i think there should be like bike lanes. and they should be huge. we should be protected. >> mill valley police said they arrested the 40-year-old man in this youtube individual video on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. he got off his bike and beat the 55-year-old driver of the pickup truck so severely witness the could only watch stunned in disbelief. cops arrived finding the man

covered in blood. police would not tell us what weapon he used. >> hello? >> yes, ma'am, this is nick smith from abc7. i'm trying to reach mr. smock. >> we tried to speak with him but we were told he wasn't home and calls were not returned. police have not identified the beaten man but a man tells abc7 news he's home from the hospital and recovering from his injuries. mill valley police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the fight or captured video to call police. abc7 news. with one person dead and six others driven after a car driven by an elderly man plowed into an ice cream parlor in suggest earn california. car jumped a curve, ran a fence and crashed into people standing outside. a 73-year-old woman died. it looked like the driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. three adults were taken to the hospital with injuries. driver wasn't hurt and is cooperating with police.

a bay area teen is still unaware of his flight between san jose and maory. the 15-year-old is still in the hospital and his father has not opinion able to visit him. family members said the boy's mother is in a refugee camp in ethiopia and wants to come to san jose to be we him. the boys father brought the children to the united states without her knowledge. and she feels he snuck on a plane reportedly to see her. there was a crash thursday night. dozens of cars vandalized and a couple houses hit in several neighborhoods. we have the story from antioch. >> this is where a lot of antioch residents were doing after at least 33 sparse two home windows were smashed out sometime in the early morning. >> i don't understand this. at least five cars were broken. >> it happened in the southeast

they caught the suspects on video. abc7 news. >> this morning a visiting businessman is being called a hero after he helped two car crash victims. he just landed at oakland international airport on thursday and was riding the shuttle to bart when he spotted an overturned car. when the shuttle pulled over ran court and other passengers ran out to help the 95-year-old driver and the passenger. the driver was badly cut so ran court took off his shirt and used it to stop the bleeding. paramedics arrived and took the victims to the hospital. we spoke to ran court by skype from his boise home. >> he made it to the hospital and got treatment and they are going to be okay, that made my day. this was probably the best thing i accomplished yesterday. >> afterwards he finally stopped by get a dress shirt before heading to his heath. there was a tour bus crash

on interstate five two weeks ago. happened west of chico april sot. report is the fedex driver drafted cross the median and sideswiped a white nissan before plowing into the bus. the report does to the say why the fedex bus veered off course. five people were killed, including five high school students from southern california. the ntsb said it could be months before their final report is complete. >> a nine-year-old girl lost her fight to keep her chickens. the family wanted to keep four hence who she considers her best friends as pets. family was sued by their homeowner's association demanding the animals be removed. the m. o. a. voted. and they didn't have enough to change the rules. they will take the matter court in july. >> parts of the bay area were soaked yesterday with heavy rainfall. even those with umbrellas had a hard time staying dry.

goffers at the lpga classic had to play through soggy conditions. it wasn't justify the rain but also hail reported on the course. some golfers were delayed until the weather cleared up. in fairfield yesterday that's not rain fall, it's hale. abc7 news viewer sent us these pictures showing the small chunks of ice throughout the city. in the sierra there will be a fresh layer of snow for the last weekend of ski season. up to five inches was expected in the tough show area overnight with another inch coming this weekend. there are no chain requirements on interstate 80 and highway 50. that's good news for skiers. they had kind of a week season this year because of the lack of snow. >> exactly. and pretty expensive for the end of april. we are looking at another chance of rain coming up as soon as this evening. but then, boy, a big turnaround with excessive moisture and offshore flow headed our way. that's next. >> also next you can participate in marches around the bay area today to support life saving

scrutiny about their effectiveness and reliability. three bay area communitiessenned the program and more will end in august but more people are coming up with unusual ways to beat the cameras. here's michael finney with the story. >> sheri recalls the moment she drove her vehicle through the intersection on howard and ninth in san francisco on october 23rd. she says her car had just entered the intersection when she saw the flash of one of the red light cameras. >> it knew she would get a ticket. >> it didn't mean the technology was reliable or that i had actually crossed the limit line prior to the light turning yellow and it doesn't mean i was driving the vehicle at that time. >> sheri happens to be a defense attorney. she takes quite a lot of traffic cases. andrew knows a lot about red light cameras too. he's the photo enforcement manager at the south san francisco police department. >> i'm able to see the heals

turning and the brake lights and the photos are good quality. i can see -- just take a couple shots of each face. >> this is the video from various red light cameras of red light violating getting into accidents across the country. it's from a company that's a major red light provider company in the united states. the cameras can capture quite a lot. this one, the south san francisco city council went against the recommendations of the police department. it voted to discontinue use of red light cameras when the contract expires in august. >> they felt that the accident rates had not been impacted significantly by the installation of the camera program. >> it's not all evidence from red light cameras is clear. these are photos captured by the red light camera in sheri's case. >> he could not identify the driver as either a man or a o it was incredibly blurry. >> a judge dismissed the space sheri won't have to pay the $500

fine. sheri's case was fairly straightforward. but some motorists will go to extreme measures to beat a red light ticket. >> i have a guy that comes through and puts his hands up off the wheel, tries to paint his face as a mime. >> others resorted to trickery. >> we found this in popular science migzine. the photo mask cutter promises to obscure part of your license plate from red light cameras. these are illegal in california but we were curious to see if they looked. this is what the photo plate cover looks like instilled. you can read the numbers here but this if the camera is over there, those numbers are blurred. it would be tough to get a ticket from a red light camera with this. >> we decided to put the photo plate to the test. we set up a camera atop one of our live trucks using specifications provided to us by the san francisco municipal transportation agency. we got into a vehicle and drove

a robber pulled a gun on a gas station clerk wednesday night while wear a werewolf mask. the clerk handed over the money and the man took off running. the man leaving didn't seem to be too concerned. >> police departments around the bay area are encouraging people to clean out their medicine cabinets today. from nine to noon law enforcement agencies will accept expired and unwanted medications no questions asked. it coincides with a national take back day organized by the dea. if you plan to go check with your local police department. many won't except used needles. there are earth day volunteers cleaning around town. clean up teams are made up of community volunteers and corporate sponsors. this the city's 20th annual earth day celebration. happening today, abc7 is again a proud sponsor of march

way of fog. here's a look at emeryville. it is clear and temperatures are in the upper 40s. san francisco 49 in gilroy coming in at 49. half moon bay 50. a little fog at the coast. and the exploratorium camera it's a cooler start in the north bay with 49 santa rosa. look for 39 also in petaluma and napa with 45 in livermore and also can cord. so this morning as you head on out, grab the jacket. we will see some sunshine. but things will be clouding up again because another weak front is on the way to bring us light rain tonight. a major warmup on the way for tuesday through thursday. so monday temperatures begin to turn around. here's our satellite and you will notice all that wet weather heading to the east into novato. we are still looking at a few leftover snow showers around the tahoe valley airport. we will see increasing high

clouds today in advance of the next system. overall temperatures with the sunshine below average, but not for long. here's a look at the next two days or so. you will notice the clouds increasing today. 3:00 it's mostly cloudy around the bay. and then by later overnight hours after midnight it's raining in the north bay and the front pushes lou the south bay. about 7:00 in the morning leftover showers around the santa cruz mountains. clearing out of san jose and we will be left with a sunnier afternoon for the second half of your weekend. but in livermore for the week ahead, check it out. by monday we are above average at 75. average highs in the lower 70s. then look what happens. we are up into the low 90s by the middle of the week. then we will cool it back by next weekend. so a look at the rest of the temperatures around the bay today. on the cool side. santa clara 64. 63 sunnyvale. 55 in pacifica with just 60 in milbrae. san francisco, and 59 degrees there.

>> the president did sign a bill to increase minimum wage to $10.10 for federal workers. riders could pay as much as six dollars one way on the rail line. it links coliseum station to the oakland international airport. right now bart officials say tickets will cost between four dollars and six dollars. and on top of the regular part fair to and from the coliseum station. they will set the actual price in june. we are still waiting for a verdict in the case after sonoma county supervisor accused of peeping after one juror changed his or her mind and a tv reporter broke court rules. he is charged with peaking into a female neighbor's home last july. he told the court he was drunk when he put his hand to her bedroom window and later knocked on her door in an attempt to get her to have sex with him.
