this from the white house. jeff, a decision was made last night on a conference call with four european leaders. are these sanctions supposed to hit russia financially? specifically putin's inner circle of billionaire friends? >> reporter: good morning, bianna. that's exactly where these intended sanctions are supposed to hit. the inner circle of vladimir putin. the russian business leaders, who the u.s. and these other nations believe can perhaps persuade vladimir putin to scale back and avoid a full-scale invasion of ukraine. but these prominent business leaders so far haven't been able to do that. but the u.s. and six other countries that make up the world's leading industrial nations, the g-7, believe these sanctions could work. so, they will announce a new round of them, as early as monday. >> this would be the third round of sanctions. the first two didn't pull putin back. why are they so confident this round might? >> reporter: the short answer is, they don't know if these sanctions will be effective. we do know this. we do know that the sanctions are having at least a small

effect on the russian economy. the ruble is falling. interest rates are rising. and there's no question that european leaders are also nervous about what type of an effect this will have on their own economies, which are tied so much closer to russia than the u.s. economy is. on friday, president obama said, president putin is not a stupid man. he believes he will eventually respond to these economic sanctions. >> europe depends so much on russia, specifically for oil and gas. jeff, our thanks to you. obviously, this is going to be a big decision coming from the president. >> very little seems to sway vladimir putin. a lot of other news overnight. and for that, as always, we get it over to mr. ron claiborne. good morning, sir. >> good morning to you, dan and bianna. sara. good morning, everyone. we begin with breaking news from afghanistan. there's been a deadly crash of a nato helicopter. according to the u.s.-led military coalition, the crash happened in the daman district of kandahar province in southern afghanistan, saturday.

about his gop colleagues' unwillingness to tackle immigration reform. >> here's the attitude. oh, don't make me do this. oh, this is too hard. you should hear them. >> boehner is being challenged by three opponents in the may 6th primary. coming on boehner's remarks, a spokesperson said, quote, as the speaker says to his colleagues, you only tease the ones you love. dan, sara, bianna, keep that in mind. >> this is like love. this is a man in florida. he has his head covered. he enters this circle k in st. petersburg. see? he takes off the white sheet, revealing a wolf mask. also revealing a pistol. the armed wolf man forces the clerk to fill a bag with the money. and he waits patiently for his loot. and takes off. the wolf man is still on the loose. not sure there was a full moon last night or not.
