>> good morning, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, april 27th. let's start with a quick first look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> good morning. carolyn. really unusual live doppler 7hd picking up the cloud cover but we have low level moisture that's providing for mist and drizzle and a pretty damp setup. we can see the transamerica pyramid, mild temperatures. low to mid-50s. but mill valley has pick up .2-inch of rain while novato has picked up .04, as well as san francisco. nothing in the south bay. still potty showers this morning, mist and drizzle. we will look for the clouds to break out and bring a sunnier

and slightly milder afternoon. we are going to have to wait another day or two for the warmup. low 60s by noontime around the bay and inland and then temperatures staying pretty much in the 60s. we will talk about when the warmup comes our way and how much we will be warming up as we head through the rest of the week in a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. the owner of the l.a. clippers will not be at oracle arena today when his team takes on the warriors. he is being investigated by the nba accused of a racist rant. we have an audio recording of what it says of sterling telling his girlfriend to not bring black people to the games. abc7 news reporter nick smyth reports coaches and players from both teams admit there is controversy but at the very least a hurtful distraction during their playoff series. >> anger and frustration could be heard around the nba after an

audio recording surfaced as a man identified as los angeles clippers owner donald sterling telling his girlfriend not to bring back people to the games. >> people call you and tell you that i have black people on my instagram and it bothers you? >> yeah, it bothers me a lot. if you want to broadcast that you are associating with black people. you have to? >> you associate with black people. >> i'm not you and you are not me. you are supposed to be a delicate white or delicate latino girl. >> she is of block and mexican decent and posted a picture of herself with magic johnson on instagram. an act that angered sterling. you can do anything, but don't do things the world has to see. and don't bring them to my games, okay? >> a photo of johnson and her have been removed from instagram but it's causing an uproar. magic johnson responded himself. via twitter. quote, i will never go it a

clippers game again as long as donald sterling is the on the other hand. coach jackson responded to the firestorm at today's practice. >> it's unfortunate and disappointing. i don't think there's any place in society for statements like that. >> sterling, the real estate mogul, bought the clippers in 1981. he's the longest tenured owner in the nba. the clippers coach, doc rivers spoke after a team practice this afternoon. >> we had a team meeting this morning about it. a lot of guys voiced their opinions. none of them were happy about it. >> i think the biggest statement we can make as men, not as black men, but as men, to stick together and show how strong we are of a group. >> as far as his immediate standing of the team he owns, sterling will not be attending the clippers playoff games in oakland. nick smith, abc7 news. >> this story is trending on twitter with hashtags like boycott clippers and clippers

owner. magic johnson responded saying he will never go to a clippers game again as long as donald sterling is the owner. he also said he feels sorry for his friends, coach doc rivers and chris paul. kobe bryant tweeted, i could not play for him. a music person said sorry about his statement and sorry for people who have to work for him. this evening even president obama is speaking out, he's confident nba commissioner adam silver will address his remarks. the president was asked to comment during a press conference with malaysia's prime minister. >> i don't think i have to interpret those statements for you. they kind of speak for themselves. when ignorant folks want to advertise their ignorance, you don't really have to do anything, you just let them talk. >> president obama said the incident illustrates that more

highlights. a woman is waking up in jail this morning after police say she stabbed her baby to death. it happened near livermore. officer went there after a report of a car accident. after two hours later a woman 23-year-old woman walked toward officers holding a baby that had been stabbed several times. paramedics were not able to face them. >> it's pretty emotional for these officers. they are all family members themselves with small children. and to come upon a child that's been murdered by the child's mother is pretty devastating for these officers. >> detectives say family members told them the mother suffers from depression. she cut her wrists. they found a knife at the scene. >> a dog nearly died because a street gate had electricity running through it.

it happened on monday. it happened friday as mickey and his owner strolled along harrison street in oakland. pg&e offered to pay the vet bills totaling about $3,000. >> they can't bring old mickey back. no amount of money can fix that. they have caused untolled emotional damage to me, my family, and to my dog. >> in a statement pg&e says our preliminary investigation shows that someone outside pg&e may have illegally accessed our equipment, resulting in an unsafe situation. we will conduct a full investigation. >> two former popes have been named saints. ♪ ♪ >> john paul ii and john xxiii were can onized today in the vatican. they are the first people to be cannonnized on the same day.

john xxiii brought youth into and they ended up changing the church and bringing it into the modern world. john paul ii brought the church to the youth. >> more than 1 million people flocked to saint peter's square and the streets surrounding it. they also witnessed another first, retired pope benedict xvi is there at the mass. and along with pope francis, the first time two popes together celebrated a sainthood ceremony. john paul ii visited the bay area back in 1987. he delivered mass to thousands at candlestick park and leguna raceway. there he embraced a little boy

who had gotten a.i.d.s. through a blood transfusion. thousands caught a glimpse of john paul during a motorcade alongside the boulevard. >> coming up, two developments in the deadly ferry accident in south korea. the government official who has resigned. and here's a look from our mt. tam cam. you can see it is still overcast and still raining. lisa argen will have your forecast in just a few.

>> the fall out continues from the south korean ferry tragedy. the president has accepted the resignation of the prime minister over the government's handling of the sinking. divers have recovered 187 bodies. 115 people are still missing. prosecutors have arrested all 15 people involved in navigating the ferry that sank april 16th. wrapping up a trip to malaysia today. president obama spoke to a group of young people at the university of malaysia. the president held a town hall meeting for students and young leaders representing ten southeast asian countries. earlier today he praised the

>> this morning approximately palestinian president called the holocaust the most heinous crime in modern history but the israeli prime minister said that statement means little to him as long as they work with hamas. today people will gather at the jewish community center in san francisco for a program. this is video of last year's day of remembrance. hitler's nazis killed 6 million jews during world war ii. holocaust survivors will share their stories of life in concentration camps and moving on after the war. >> this morning there's growing

uncertainty about the future of oracle arena now that the warriors have made plans to move to san francisco. oracle will need to reinvent itself to fill the void left by the warriors. one idea is to reduce capacity by almost 5,000 seats to create a midsize venue. another concern is public debt. when the warriors leave in 2018, there will reportedly be a $62 million debt on the facility. there's already a legal dispute over whether the team is liable to help taxpayers cover that cost. well, bit by bit and drip by drip we get some rain. >> yeah, it didn't really materialize, the light rain. although in the south bay we are looking at drive pavement and starting to see sunshine. parts of the bay still looking at mist and drizzle. here's a look at the cloud cover, which will continue to thin on out throughout the day

today. after the morning hours we should be done with the cloud cover and the light rain, mist and drizzle. here is san jose. most of the sky is cloudy with temperatures in the 50s on the peninsula. redwood city 53. oakland at 56. good morning half moon bay three mile visibility for you. you can see the gray sky here where temperatures all across the board are mainly in the low to mid-50s. even the north bay where you have had the consistent rainfall, if you can call it that. it's been awfully sloppy there. four mile visibility santa rosa. picked up a couple hundreds here. but mill valley has picked up, the observation says almost .2-inch of rain. if you look at mt. tam you can understand. they are on the other side of that, the bottom of it. and that is a pretty good spot to pick out some precip. so mist is drizzle possible for some of you. partly cloudy throughout the day

today. our warmup gets underway actually tomorrow. high pressure builds in and temperatures will come up. we will receive very little in the way of fog and the wind will go offshore. the front continues to dissipate. here's the high well offshore. but as for tomorrow it builds in and around the bay we will begin to see some of the warming while the coastline stays a little breezy and cool. by 11:00 still looking at the cloud cover and perhaps a little bit of moisture. higher elevations for the most part. if you are taking the bike ride or a run, don't be surprised to see the wetter pavement in the morning but by the afternoon we will see the sunshine win out. the temperatures today below average for san jose. in the 60s. we should be in the low 70s. low 70s tomorrow but the 80s for tuesday. 90s wednesday and thursday. but then the temperatures come back down by then of the work week. highs today ranging from the low 60s in oakland, 64 fremont and mid-60s in san jose. 68 in napa half moon bay 57.

and the winds kicking up. right any they are out of the south and behind the system will be out of the west. as a result, it will be breezy despite the sunshine. the accuweather seven-day forecast warmer tomorrow. very warm inland early. but tuesday 90s for the east bay, parts of the south bay. 70s coastline and on the beach. and then it all goes away by friday and saturday. >> you will need an umbrella for the giants game? >> no, no. it's going to be much better than then. in fact, the next hour or so things should really dry out. >> thank you, lisa. up next a look at the parade of boats on san francisco bay today.

spectators can catch the parade from noon to three this afternoon. the 51st annual blessing of the fleet starts at 11:00 this morning. lisa, now i'm paying attention. you say the rain will be gone? >> yes. good, thank you, carolyn for paying attention. between twelve and three is the timing of that when we will see increasing sunshine. temperatures climbing through the 60s. a look at emeryville. it's still very cloudy. but we are going to mix things out and we will see increasing sunshine and temperatures climbing into the upper 50s to the east by valleys. but by tomorrow we are warming up around the bay and then it is offshore tuesday day wednesday, thursday. some temperatures may be conservative on tuesday. it will be a quick warmup. >> a heat-up really. thank you, lisa. that is going to do it for us. thank you for joining us on the abc7 sunday morning news. i'm carolyn tyler along with
