said she is emigrating to the u.s. to be with her son. today we heard from her living in her somali refugee camp in ethiopia. her 15-year-old son made it on to the runway on april 20th and then hid in a plane's wheel well on a flate to hawaii. abdullah said her ex-husband took the boy to california years ago and told him she had died. when he found out she was alive he sneaked on to the tarmac and then on to that plane in san jose. he is now recovering in hawaii. now another round of deadly weather. look at the storms as they move through the south. the national weather service says the severe weather outbreak including intense tornadoes will continue through wednesday. at least nine people died today in mississippi and alabama. one alabama county dealt with a debris field. if you can imagine, 1.2 miles wide. there could be more victims in wrecked building that's can't be accessed because of downed power lines. there are a total of 56 reports

of tornadoes across the south. so far tonight. and this latest assault of storms comes a day after tornadoes killed 17 people in the south. some of the twisters like this one captured on video. a half mile wide tornado carved an 18-mile path of destruction through the suburbs of little rock, arkansas be killing at least 15 people there. a white house task force is now weighing in on the issue of sexual assault on our nation's college campuses. tomorrow they'll be releasing a set of recommendations. uc berkeley is facing a lawsuit considering how the university handles complaints of sexual assault. allen long is on the cal campus for us tonight. >> the white house says it is time for universities and colleges like cal's to stop ignoring the problem. it says one in five women are sexually assaulted during college, usually in the first two years and usually by someone they know. the white house task force on

college campus sexual assault is recommending schools trained to intervene. strengthen the confidentiality on sexual assault reports, provide services to survivors and conduct a survey to measure stanlts' awareness on how to report sexual violence. >> i think it is a long time coming. >> a campus organization called art for social change is pushing this issue at uc berkeley with art and poetry. >> i think there is a growing concern of male students for their female friends. so i think things like this not only brings awareness and make them aware of their actions and their ways of changing it and the situation better. >> uc berkly facing a federal lawsuit filed by a group of students who say they were sexually assaulted and ignored by the school. since february the school has added two investigators, a health adviser and a police resource specialist to offer more guidance. >> there is a lot of suffering and a lot of, a lot of

click on a bad link. >> it now has complete control over this computer. >> reporter: hard drive, key strokes, internet history, everything exposed. >> the security firm that discovered the flaw said the problem is targeted at defense industry and financial industries. so chances are mom and pop won't be targets but that doesn't mean they won't be exploited. >> jon: in a very rare move the department of homeland security issued a warning telling people to stay away from internet explorer until microsoft developed the fix. microsoft timally releases patches on the second tuesday of the month. they didn't give a time line for this fix but sent as you statement that reads in part at this time we are aware of limited targeted attacks. we encourage customers to cover the outline in the security advisory. some folks in the south bay coffee shop are not taking any

san francisco's building boom is displacing many of the long time residents but not the human. these are the four-legged long tailed residents. >> more on a rat infestation. >> reporter: under the cloak of darkness rats sneak out near the fourth street off-ramp south of market in san francisco looking for food. they'll even chew through plastic trash cans to get it. >> how big are they? >> between six and eight inches

long. >> dark colored. mangy looking. not the rats you would want to hold. >> reporter: people in the neighborhood say the rat population boomed two years ago when work started on a new subway extension. >> over here, they come out late at night. >> reporter: it is one of many construction projects. >> you see them scurrying around. >> reporter: we went looking for rats around the city and we found them all over the place. we found an infestation. not only were there adults but babies as well. >> once in a while, a couple now, i must have seen 50 of them. they were coming out like it was nuts. >> reporter: he is even worried the rats will hitch a ride home with him to san mateo. >> i don't want to get bitten by one. suppose i take one home and it came in the house and bites

somebody else in the house. goes down the street. make sure there's nothing in there. >> reporter: he is with the san francisco department of public health. he says rats are just part of urban life and they show up all over the city. left unchecked they can spread bacteria like salmonella. >> when you drink water, food that is contaminated by rat feces you are more likely to get the bacteria also. >> reporter: the centers for disease control say rats have been known to carry 26 diseases including ones that can kill like the bubonic playing and the hantavirus. he isn't too worried about it spreading in the city because the city has an aggressive eradication program. >> what i know about rats is from experience. >> you won't know them unless you go out and meet them. >> reporter: he is the senior environmental health inspector with the department of health. on average his department gets about 350 complaints a year.

>> i went to the health department. >> reporter: he showed us what inspectors look for when they respond to complaints. >> you've got rat droppings on this side and rat droppings on this side. >> reporter: it goes beyond the obvious. being rat detective takes a keen eye. >> the rat's fur is usually greasy, dirty and so on. so as they run along the wall they leave these streaks called rub marks. >> reporter: he looks for possible nests in trees. >> it is rare to see them on the grass running around. to determine whether or not there is activity, he with look for these telltale signs. >> reporter: when rats are found on city property, exterminators come out tow care of them. when rats found on private property the owners are told to fix the problems. >> there are some big rats out here. >> reporter: when they are rooted out of one location, they often just move on the tex good spot -- to the next good spot. people are also responsible for rat infestations, leaving food
