everyone. upper 60s oakland, berkeley, 67 inland and low to mid-70s. a cooler weekend. i'll tell you the coolest day this weekend and what the upcoming work week looks like, including cinco demayo coming up. >> thank you, lisa. in developing news, abc7 news was the first to break this news on twitter. the santa clara teenage stow away that survived the flight to hawaii in the wheel well of a jet is no longer in hawaii. this is according to an official sent by hawaii department human services. they did not say where the teen was going or who he might be with, only that he is safe. we do know he is not with his dad. our media partner reports hawaiian officials have denied the father's request to see his son and bring him back home. the woman at the center of the donald sterling scandal is talking this morning. she opened up to barbara walters

the child was airlifted to the hospital. the three-year-old has head injuries but should survive. it is called the hook-up truck and it's exactly when you think it is. a place for people to, well, hook up. the truck tried to crash oakland's first 40 event. we were there for the debut. >> the hookup truck wasn't allowed anywhere near first friday's street event. >> they said oh, no, you are the hookup truck. we were told you are not allowed to come in here. >> organize he is said they never received an application >> we were full long before they came so they couldn't come because other people had already come. >> the idea comes from a conversation about a friend using mobile apps to hook up

firefighters arrived wishes is just before 3:00 this morning. the woman was the only person inside the home. it took firefighters about 25 minutes to get the flames under control. damage estimated at about $150,000. the cause of the fire is under investigation. we will keep you posted on this one. also this morning, we have new details about a deadly san jose crash. police say a driver ran a red light, then clipped another vehicle and hit a light pole on north first street just before 4:00 yesterday afternoon. a female passenger in the car died. the driver is in serious condition. none. four people in the other vehicle were injured. happening today a vigil is being held in memory of an oakland man killed in a hit-and-run a week ago. oakland police are offering a $10,000 reward for information lead to go the arrest of the driver. this is cell phone video from the scene on telegraph avenue and 50th street. vigil organizers say the still unidentified victim was disscaled met his friends every morning at a coffee shop.

the vigil will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the site of the run. >> and organizers will be in newark to help kids in nigeria. social need yeah is blog up for the campaign. more than 200 girls were kidnapped by islamic extremists two weeks ago. many were said to be sold as slaves or wives. the protest will be at noon today at the theater on cedar boulevard. new details about the federal raid of a petaluma slaughterhouse that led to a massive meat recall earlier this year. documents show the rancho feeding corporation was purchased diseased cows and processing them from inspectors were around. the heads of sick cows were replaced with ones from healthy animals. document found a plant foreman was in a romantic relationship

community complaints. >> what we've been able to accomplish today is to attack these businesses in an innovative and comprehensive manner. >> the d. a. arrested 18 people. they seized their property and assets, shut down their businesses and charged them with money laundering, tax evasion and labor violations. humor trafficking charges could be added after the interviews with 50 women found. those women won't be charged. in the east bay, alan wang, abc7 news. a federal injure has reached a verdict in a month-long legal fight between the two giants of the cell phone industry. apple and samsung over technology theft. yesterday a federal judge awarded apple $119 million after finding samsung had copied patented i-phone technology to build their galaxy s3 i-phone but they also found apple in fridged on one of samsung's patents. samsung was awarded

>> welcome back. three san jose state students charged with bullying of their black roommate have been expelled and yesterday a fourth student involved in the hate crime has had his suspension extended by the school. the alleged bullying happened last november when a freshman said his four white roommates form meanted him with racial slurs and violence. classmates are helping a person battling disease to go to

prom. one was told he couldn't go because he was home schooled the last semester of his senior year. the reason? he's battling kidney failure. his aunt started a pegs to get the school to make an exception. more than 700 people signed if and yesterday the school reversed their decision. he succeeded in finding a last minute date. a sausalito business has become a victim of its own conduct ses. the kayiak and paddleboard rental company is being kicked out of schumacher beach in large because it is attracting too many people. abc7 news reporter lilian kim has the details. >> since 982 sea trek has been renting out kayaks from the beach in sausalito. the business didn't really start taking off until a couple years ago when it began offering paddle boards. rick is the owner. >> i'm thrilled that people have discovered in this is the way to get out on the bay, not to be in

their yachts, not to be in their motor boats. >>ners, the people who manage the beach want sea trek out and decide not to renew their lease. they said they are making parking worse and there's a liability. >> i think we have concerns with the huge increase the liability concerns outweigh the benefits right now. >> we can figure out how to work with the marina to lessen our footprint. we are willing to do anything that is reasonable. >> but the marina isn't interested. sea trek is working on a backup plan, an area at the foot of lockheed martinnist street but that needs approval in multiple government agencies. right now their future is up in the air. bad news for the customers and the residents. >> it's a shame. it's part of the community so there are a lot of people would love to enjoy the water and love to kayak and paddleboard. >> it's a great spot because it is protected so you can try paddleboarding until you get comfortable and then go out and

today we are going to spread the 70s eastward and already the low clouds and fog have allowed for the cool down overnight. it's just sea breeze will limit our warming today. here's a look at live doppler 7hd. you see some of the cloud cover banked up along the coast but we are looking at partly cloudy skies in concord this morning and over in livermore as well. so we will look for a little bit of sunshine early on and then that will increase throughout the afternoon. so right now temperatures are mainly all in the 50s. 55 oakland, 52 gilroy. nice shot from our exploratory yeah camera. we are looking at the clouds here. it will take longer for san francisco to clear. yesterday you were 66. minor cool down for you but the sea breeze continues to keep it a little cool. some gusty wins along the coast. 56 partly cloudy. livermore and concord 54. 51 santa rosa. fso, you see the clouds. you were in the low 70s yesterday. a bigger cool down south of the

city and fog and low clouds for most this morning with the cooling trend into our east bay valleys. it will be warmer but we have to wait until the middle of the week with the coolest day perhaps on monday. so here's a look at the fog footprint. by 8:00 this morning around union city and fremont and hayward we are still look at the low clouds. but we are looking at sunshine in san jose. so as we go through the rest of the. notice the 80s. well out into the valleys. a pocket of 70s around morgan hill and gilroy. pacifica and half moon bay still in the 50s. so a chilly day at the beach. just some low 70s up toward santa rosa. here's the culprit. unseasonably strong area of low pressure in the pacific northwest allowing for the 1,000-footer or 1200-foot marine layer to head inland. as it does, it allows for the cooling trend to get better established inland today. stay with us tomorrow for cinco demayo and cooler monday. highs today in the south bay, 73

29 chicks have been born in the city hall nest box in the last seven years. tiny knit caps are being used to take care of baby birds in san rafael. baby birds are unable to regulate their own temperature for the knit vests are used to keep them warm. and the group are asking for volunteers to whip up more than them. they need 1200 nests to take care of the hundreds of birds they rescue every year. fuld like to help we have directions on how to nittymaki and make the donate knit vests on our website. an ailing riegel that recuperated, the volunteers got to see their work take off. the young golden eagle was released back into the east bay wilderness. the bird was brought to the u.c. davis raptor center with a severe and rare mite infestation that left her feather less, weak and in poor health. >> she's been in captivity since august 9th and been recovering

since. they claim she's ready to go now and we believe she is, as well. >> researchers are just beginning to understand the might infestation. to recognize her full recovery from it, rescuers have named her mighty mite. >> coming up we will show you how the city of san francisco has been successful this year in holding down their homicide rate. the biggest drop on record. and the lake tahoe's facilities to get injured bears healthy again and the work it takes to get them back into the wild.

everywhere. novato at 50 degrees. 56 in concord and we have partly cloudy skies into our east bay valleys. we're warmer. that marine layer is taller so insulating us for the most part except for livermore and san jose. a couple degrees cooler for you. notice the low clouds and fog do extend locally inland but right now no visibility issues. and by about 10:00 we will be in full sunshine mode in the east bay valleys. 3:00 low to mid-70s from livermore to concord and around the bay upper 60s. but mid-60s around berkeley and closer to the coast. a gusty afternoon with upper 50s to lower 60s. so we haven't bottomed out yet. i'll tell you the coolest day and a look at if and when we will warm up in a few minutes. katie. >> thank you, lisa. in developing news, the teen stow away from santa clara who survived a flight to hawaii in the wheel well of a jet is not in the aloha state this morning. the 15-year-old teen is said to

be safe, but no longer in hawaii. that's according to officials with the department of humor service who did not say where the teenager is, citing privacy laws. automaticdy jumped the fence last month at the the airport. officials have denied obadias dad request to see his son and bring him back home. at the airport where he began his death-defying journey, there are new calls for enter security. sky 7hd was there when the east bay congressman toured the grounds yesterday. he wants higher fences and new motion detecting security cameras installed. as far as anyone can remember, it's a record low. four murders in san francisco this year and it's not happening everywhere, san jose has seen 13 homicides since january. vic lee with some reasons for the precipitous drop in the murder rate. >> you are looking at a brains

gang video showing a masked man waving a handgun. so if a this year san francisco police have seized more than 100 guns, many assault rifles from the streets. >> we have done a good job recovering and using video technology, social media. again, the community coming forward. >> police say that's one of the reasons why the city's homicide rate has plummeted. since january there have been four murders. compare this to last year at this time when there were 11. in 2012, 20 people were killed in the first four months of the year. former gang leader sean richards founded brothers against guns. he noticed a different attitude among the young people he counsels. >> a lost them know an early grave is not what is in place for them. >> police say their focus on violent crimes is another reason for the phenomenal decline in the murder rate. they are relying on a computer-generated crime tracking system to pinpoint

in april, the most in two years. and the unemployment rate shrank to 6.3%, the lowest in six years. the president said he and his party are making the right choices. >> i want to raise more workers wages by asking that they earn a fair wage of at least $10.10 an hour. as long as republicans in congress refuse to act i will keep working with cities, states and businesses to give more americans a raise. >> the president chastised republicans in congress of being more interested in, quote, stack the deck in favor of those at the top. the price of a barrel of oil has dropped. gas reached a average of $4.25. prices on the west colt could fall to a low of $3.80 a gallon in july as long as there are no

interruption necessary supply. california is planning to double the amount of hydrogen fueling stations by 2015. new stayings are planned for palo alto, san jose, redwood city and oakland. there's just one now in emeryville. there are currently about 230 fuel cell cars in california. but honda, hyandai die and toyota say they plan to market the cars in california within two years. we have an update for you on three bear cubs rescued around lake tahoe. one was found injured at the heavenly ski area a couple months ago. thanks to expert medical care and a lot of good food, all three cubs are doing well now. abc7 news anchor dan ashley with the return to their wild this morning in the assignment 7 report. >> if you want to rescue bear cubs, you better know what you are doing. they start off like this tiny club that's thriving at lake tahoe wildlife care and they end up with these guys. living and growing at the same

rescue center. three cubs, all 14, maybe 15 months old, ready for release into the remote wilderness. they have just been sedated and volunteers are checking to see if they are ready to be moved. one in front is pretty out of it, but the one in the back, not quite ready to be handled. before you get worried, you should know that behavior is actually a good sign. >> that's telling me that the bear is not paw bit waited to people and therefore is less likely to get into nuisance activities down the road. >> lake tahoe wildlife care is run by tom and cheryl. over the years they have raised over 60 or fanned or injured bear cubs. two of the three that are about to be released have been here since they were rescued last summer. one was hit by a car and the other's mother was hit by a car. the third is named heavenly because he was found injured at the heavenly ski resort in

march. after he was sedated he was brought down on a sled and given oxygen. he arrived weighing just 49 pounds and with puncture wounds on his body. >> we don't really know what caused the injury. >> but they did know how to help them. >> he gained 43 pounds in ten days. i told you my wife is a good cook. >> two of the bears weigh more than 100 pounds. volunteers are here to help haul them around. they get weighed and get a final check by a veterinarian. >> they all healed up really nice. >> department of wildlife is in charge of the actual release. they tag the bears and load them into cages for the ride out to their new home. >> take that blanket and cover them up a little more there. >> california's bears are always released within 75 miles of where they were found and far away from populated areas. the two cubs of this been here since last summer will be released together. heavenly will be on his own. once he's loaded in it's about an hour's drive to a location very similar to where he used to

live. >> heavenly valley without the ski resort. >> everybody gets into position, including an armed warden just in case things go bad. as it turns out, henley has no plans to make trouble. he's still a little groggy from the sedation so the team has to give him some urge to go move along. >> we had to instill a little bit of tough love. we don't like to put fear in the animal for no good reason but we want to put the fear of people back in the bear. let them know people are bad. >> eventually heavenly climbs a tree. it's a gratifying moment for the people who worked so hard to help him survive. >> that's what we do as an organization and that is the ultimate success, is to get them back out where they be long. so, yeah, very excited. >> dan ashley, abc7 news. the fish and wildlife department said the release of the other two cubs also went

>> yosemite is advising visitors that the park is a no drone zone. the use of unmanned aircraft systems are prohibited within the park boundaries. but yosemite officials say they have seen an increase in the number of visitors using them. they say the aircraft can be extremely noisy and can impact

the natural sound scape of the park. also drones can have a negative impact on wildlife, especially nesting peregrine falcon on clifford walls. expect slower traffic overnight in san lorenzo. they are demolishing the marina road bridge and it will affect traffic on north and southbound 880. northbound lanes were closed until 5:00 this morning. traffic should be okay there now. southbound is closed until 6:00 a.m. on sunday all lanes will be shut down from 1:00 a.m. to -- and traffic will be detoured. most people are sound asleep at that point. >> that's right. and this morning a little cool outside. feeling pretty good. numbers mainly in the 50s. here's the view from mt. tam. you see the low clouds and fog. up above 1,000 feet and that will allow for a cool down for our friends in the east bay valleys. no 80s to speak of. i'll have the details on the weekend forecast and tell you how low the temperatures will go when we return.

you were in the 70s yesterday, 60s today. low clouds and fog this morning for most. the cooling trend finishes. it will be cooler tomorrow and it's not going to warm up until the middle of the upcoming work week. so the reason being, we have an unseasonably strong area of low pressure to the north and west of us and this is allowing for a much stronger sea breeze a few high clouds from time to time. in fact, the winds quite gusty at the coastline. so we can see gusts up to 30 miles an hour there at the shoreline. but the sea breeze will allow for temperatures to be trimmed back at least a dozen degrees in our inland east bay. so take a look at san jose for the week ahead. average highs in the low 70s. that should do it for today. look what happens. the steady decline continues into monday and then after that into tuesday and wednesday, the numbers go back up. nothing too extreme. although it will be above average by, say, thursday. highs today statewide. still pretty warm for yosemite. 82 there.
