many years. >> every five seconds seems to take an eternity. >> tragedy after a popular bay area stunt pilot crashes his plane in front of thousands of people. i'm ama dates. the pilot of the plane has been identified as 77-year-old eddie andrini, a well-known stunt pilot and owner of the eddie andrini airshows out of half moon bay. it happened before 2:00 this afternoon at the thunder over solano airshow. sergio joins us live with a look at what happened today. sergio? >> ama, this was the first airshow here at travis air force base in a few years and the stunt by plane was one of

the last acts in the two days. so witnesses told me that the stunt pilot was making his second attempt at his stunt when that by plane got too close to the runway and crashed. >> this is youtube video of the crash. stunt pilot eddie andrini was performing a fly by to convert the runway. and then this video of smoke rising over the tarmac. witnesses say the stunt pilot was performing a fly by to cut a ribbon over the runway. >> he came low and upside down. >> i saw it coming in to cut the ribbon president i thought everything was going fine. he was coming really close. >> just glide it on the runway. you can see the white smoke coming out. and then after that the plane comes to the stop the black smoke was billowing out. >> witnesses say it had seen the plane burn before fire

crews arrived. >> it took a eternity. eternity. >> you are thinking why the hell aren't they getting out there? every five seconds they will y-an eternity.y seem to take >> fire trucks were, pad behind the crowd. and that seemed to slow their response. >> they were trying to get through the crowd. soon after that there was another fire truck coming around the grandstand where we were sitting. >> the travis air force base commander says fire teams cannot be on the runway while in use. they will look at the positioning of the fire crews during the show. >> that will be part of the investigation. what i can tell you is the emergency response notification was immediate. gite national transportation safety board will be investigating what went wrong causing the pilot to crash. at travis ace force base, abc -- air force base, abc7 news. >> the death comes as a shock to many people who knew him in half moon bay.

he several planes at the airport and friends describe him as an experienced pilot who took every step to fry safely. he also ate at a calf fie popular with his neighbors and other pilots. >> he was a great guy. first met him 12 years ago when i started to come here. he has self-planes -- several planes and he is a very gracious gentleman. i am proud and honored to call him my friend. >> he also ran a construction company. friends tell us these family has been part of the half moon bay community for 100 years. >> today's crash marks the latest tragedy during an airshow. the world war ii vintage plane crashed in september of 2011. earlier in 2011, a pilot died after his plane crashed during the i have aviation expo. a wing worker and her pilot died after the plane crashed into the ground last year.

sky 7hd shows us where two planes collided over san francisco bay while returning to an airshow last sunday. one pilot was killed when the plane plunged into the water and the other managed to land safely. stay with abc7 news on the latest. we will have updates on abc7news.com and the abc morning news at 4:30. new at 11:00, police shot and killed a man after they say he attacked an officer with a baseball bat. we are hearing what happened through voices of officers on the scene. >> shots fired. shots fired and officers have gone out to a domestic dispute. the man died at the scene. a neighbor tel us this is not the first time police have been to the same home. >> a few times the cops have

been called and there is some sort of disturbance going on. either nothing happens or the person seemingly making the phone call is one to take away. >> dublin police are part of the alameda county sheriff office. the sheriff and district attorney are investigating. an alameda county sheriff deputy is in hospital in serious, but stable condition after he and his partner were attacked. tonight these three are in custody. the two men charged with attempted murder and all three charged with felony assault. kelly cart on the right called 9-1-1 telling dispatchers that they were fighting behind this building. when deputies arrived, they attacked them. >> the incident was recorded on video. video and ii can tell you in my many years of law enforcement it is probably one of the most violent struggles i have seen an officer go through. >> the deputy in the hospital was pumped in the -- punched

it thank you, spencer. tomorrow marks the start of cal fire's fire season in northern california. cal fire says they have responded to 1200 fires this year. that's more than double the normal amount. drought conditions are not making things easier for fire crews or homeowners. maintain 100 feet of dispensable space. and make sure tree branches don't hang lower than six feet. if you are going camping, be sure to put your campfire out completely. they will vote tomorrow on a plan disci designed to get people to save water. if it passes, residents who don't caught their water usage by 35% would have to pay on average an extra $20 a month. if the plan is approved the restrictions will go into effect next month. new at 11:00, one man is dead after a shooting in richmond tonight. investigators say an argument between two men lead to the shooting near virginia avenue

so far police report they made one arrest related to this year's sen co de mayo -- cinco de mayo celebration. you will see police officers from now until early tuesday morning. a group will promote free speech in morgan hill four years after the american flag ignited controversy. several students wore american flag t-shirts in 2010. some latino classmates say it offended them, and so school administrators asked the boys wearing the t-shirts to take them off. recently they ruled in favor of the school. 50 people plan to stand in silence holding american flags near live oak. >> i can't seem to get an answer. why do you want to silence americans holding an american flag in america? >> it is better to promote cinco de mayo as cinco de mayo and not a protest. >> it separates students from the flag rally. nine performers are

clouds. these are our forecast features. partly cloudy and cooler by several degrees. breezy on the coast, but then we get a warming trend around midweek. that will continue us into the weekend. satellite-radar shows the passing high clouds. it didn't drop rainfall and it doesn't look like you had much of any chance of rain. although we do have this breezy pattern developing and it will be an on shore flow tomorrow. it will be a brisk one and will bring us a few clouds. there is the possibility of a couple of isolated showers. at midnight, we will see patches of moisture traveling through the bay area along a with the broken clouds. it is possible there could be an isolated shower or two. basically we think it will be a dry day tomorrow and partly cloudy to mainly sunny. overnight we will see more clouds than we are likely to see tomorrow. overnight lows on the mild side. a little cooler in the north bay valleys where lows will drop into the upper 40s.

it will be manically sunny and a few passing high clouds. mid60s to low 70s. 71 in gilroy. midto mainly midto upper 60s. 65 in san mateo. on the coast, breezy, but pleasantly cool. 59 in pacifica and 60 at half moon bay. i will get out of the way so you can see bodega bay and stinson beach, those people say my head gets in the way and can you see? it will be 67 in santa rosa and 609 in napa. highs of 66 in oakland and 68 in castro valley and over in the inland east bay upper 60s in walnut and 70 in antioch and fairfield. here is the accu-weather seven-day forecast. by friday we will see the low 80s inland. over the weekend, mother's day weekend sunny skies and highs in the mideights.

i'm ama dates. in tonight's headlines, a stunt pilot died after his plane plunged into the ground during a show. they identified him as eddie andrini of half moon bay. he is described as a pilot and investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong. dublin police shot and killed a man after they say he tacked an officer with a base ball bat. the officers were not hurt. they are investigating tonight's shooting. and about 50 people plan to stand outside live oak high school holding american flags. they say tomorrow's rally

supports free speech. this comes four years after the school asked students to remove the flags on cinco-de mayo. now to the power play over the los angeles clippers. the team beat the warriors last night, and now the team owner is hoping for a victory off the court, hoping to keep control of the team in the family. ryan smith has the details. >> the future of their embattled owner, donald sterling, as cloudy as ever. the nba announcing it will appoint a ceo to oversee team day-to-day operations. saying the best way to ensure the stability of the team during this investigation is to move quickly and install a ceo to oversee the organization. the league on mum on who could run the team and when the changes will occur. what is sure is the ceo will take over for this man and the nba is sending a message. >> the league wants to send a

worth of damage to that home and properties of the neighbors. developing knows out of oklahoma where crews are battling a large wildfire. it happened in low gone county. several homes have been destroyed in the fire that torched nearly seven square miles. so far no injuries have been reported. fire destroyed a garage where nine people were living. flames ripped through the garage located behind a home before 5:30 this morning. paramedics treated one person for smoke inhalation. the red cross is assisting people displaced by the fire. a battle over access is set to go to court tomorrow. at issue, a road that leads to martin's beach south of half moon bay. the bleach beach -- the beach has been closed by a billionaire. protesters complained for two years about the closing of the road. 5* a judge ruled that they

lets the city off the hook. >> they should step forward and accept responsibility. the history is there. the documentation is there. >> the ordeal began march 25th, 2011. neighbors woke up to see their yards falling away. and those living down the hill on hillcrest road watched the slow motion slide send mud up to their homes over the course of the last several weeks. >> there is nothing stoping this mud from overtaking our house. >> stunned residents out of their homes they rule as unsafe. >> it is the only house we have had. it is going down the hill and no way to stop it. >> they held meetings 20* find ways to help. they offered to temporarily shore up the hillside and couldn't find money to do it. that also didn't work. >> we have implications that

this is a private property situation and the funds will probably not be coming to fix the situation for the homeowners. >> the homeowners were on their own so the lawsuit started flying. the downhill suing the uphill and the uphill suing the downhill and all going after the city. >> six houses are affected. it has to be a city problem. one of the neighbors is a licensed land surveyor. he spotted something on the old maps. a drain designed and approved by the cit engineer in 19-- city engineer to deal with the previous landslide. the report at the time said the purpose of the drain is to remove the sub surface waters and prevent the build up of water pressure is minimize the possibility of slides. >> they never disclosed the drain system was there. they never inspected it. they never maintained it.

they basically hid it. they tried to cover it up. >> they say it was a bad design with open joint pipes that allowed water to flow across the hill sie.d it took three years after the drain was installed for another slide to claim a chunk of the hillside. >> in 1958 they knew it was a bad design when it blew out the hillside. they should have taken the rest of it out and they didn't. they left it there. >> he blames it for two more slides late are. the hillside has seen a total of four. >> 58 and then 83 and then 2011. >> i believe joe is just wrong. >> he was hired to address the slide and the drain is not the issue, but the sleep -- the steep angle at which they graded the hillside and the poor quality of compacted fill trerl in the project.

after awhile the rain and the landscape irrigation progressively weakens the ground and in a period of fairly heavy rain it is time for the hills to start sliding. >> that was enough to convince the lawyers. they agree to dismiss the city and have come up with a settlement. $900,000 from the neighbor's insurance policy to shore up the hillside. some of the money will pay for the repairs to the home and they are releasing any and all claims against the city. sthaz why he refuses -- that's why high refuses to sign. >> the city manager and the city attorney is priority --'s priority number one is avoiding responsibility. that's been their total focus. public safety? not a big deal. if this things goes, it goes.
