good monday morning. circus show canceled today in rhode island following a terrifying fall that injured several performers. the acrobats were attempting the human chandelier when something went wrong sending the performance crashing to the ground. >> abc's marci gonzalez is live in providence with the latest on the injuries and investigation. good morning, marci. >> reporter: good morning, john and diana. incredibly all of those performers survived. but such a scare for everyone who was here for yesterday's performance. this morning, investigators are still trying to figure out how this happened. a part of this circus performance meant to wow the audience, acrobats suspended about 30 feet high by their hair. no one expecting what happened next. those eight crashing to the ground on to a dancer below. >> i heard them hit the ground. it was hard. >> no net to catch their fall. the metal platform they were happening from landing on top of them. >> ladies and gentlemen,

children of all ages, we ask that you please enjoy this intermission at this time while we situate ourselves during this accident. >> reporter: the thousands in the audience here in providence, rhode island, stunned as the lights were dimmed and first responders rushed in to help. >> my daughter started immediately, oh, my god, daddy. are they going to be okay? >> they weren't moving. they weren't getting up. we knew that there was something wrong. >> reporter: this was part of an act called the human chandelier, the ringling brothers and barnum & bailey circus advertising it as the only performance of its kind in the world. all eight of those acrobats and one other performer rushed to the hospital with broken bones, cuts and head trauma. all expected to survive. >> this shouldn't happen and we'll get to the bottom of why it happened and make sure it doesn't happen going forward. >> reporter: and the show scheduled here for this morning has been canceled. federal investigators say it could be weeks before they know exactly what is to blame for

this accident. john and diana. >> marci gonzalez live in providence, thank you. new this morning a rough ride for passengers on board a flight out of philadelphia. the captain ordered the plane back to the airport after severe turbulence caused several injuries. the us airways airbus like this was bound for orlando. four people were taken to hospitals after landing including a flight attendant who struck her head so hard it cracked the wall. breaking overnight a destructive wildfire burning near oklahoma city is being blamed for at least one death. a man who refused to leave his home. at least six homes have burned to the ground and many more destroyed. the fire started as a controlled burn yesterday afternoon before spreading to seven square miles. it is the largest of several fires in oklahoma that have been fueled by high winds and unseasonable heat. well, the heat wave is broken for most of the plains but it is still pretty and dry from arizona to the deep south and florida. taking a look at the temperatures map, lots of orange, high temps, 93 in

dallas, 87 in atlanta. that is more than ten degrees above normal. overseas to the worsening tensions in ukraine. violent protests have now spread to odessa, the country's third largest city. dozens of people have been killed there. abc's tahman bradley has the latest on the crisis. >> reporter: ukraine is on the brink. hundreds of chanting demonstrators gathered in odessa to protest the release of almost 70 pro-russian prisoners. the men were freed after their comrades armed with sticks and smoke bombs stormed police headquarters. they walked out with little resistance. they had been detained for their actions in last friday's bloody crashed that ended with a horrible tragedy at the trade union building. dozens trapped inside and burped to death. it it shocked the entire country. "there is no united ukraine anymore after what has happened here" this man says. the building has become a shrine with the public and even ukraine's prime minister visiting.

the country could be moving closer to civil war and the government blames russia. kiev fears the east is lost. pro-russian militants have seized almost every town and the violence has gotten worse but the u.s. ambassador to ukraine suggested friday's incident could be a tipping point. >> i think at this point the whole country is trying to figure out what happened, how to pull together and how to make sure that those who are trying to divide the country will not be successful. >> reporter: the u.s. is urging russia to withdraw from ukraine but vladimir putin is keeping tens of thousands of troops across the border. >> putin has successfully dismembered the ukraine by using special forces and intelligence agents to disrupt the ukraine. i fear now that there will be a civil war. >> reporter: ukraine's prime minister blames police in odessa for friday's violence. he says they did nothing to stop the bloodshed. john and diana. >> tahman bradley live in washington. thank you. going back to the drawing board in search of malaysia

>> all right, everybody, stand still. stay right where you are. >> reporter: thick black smoke billowed from the wreckage. two rescuers at the travis air force base show rushed to the scene, but it was too late. at the controls of the vintage biplane, 77-year-old eddie andreini, a well-known stunt pilot who had won awards in the highest recognition from his peers. he was killed doing what he loved. >> he was inverted cutting a ribbon. >> reporter: that means andreini was flying upside down close to the ground. no spectators were injured because the crash and fire took place away from the massive crowd, which was estimated to be 100,000 people. organizers canceled the rest of the show immediately sending everyone home. as for the investigation into what went wrong, the conditions are already being looked into. >> if we look at yesterday, the winds were much gustier, stronger gusts down the runway. what i can tell you is the winds were approximately 10 to 15

knots, and that will also be part of the investigation. >> reporter: eddie andreini's website has videos of him pursuing his passion, spinning, dipping, diving, even in the same plane clearly at home among the clouds. now, that witness we mentioned before also says that plane skidded some 500 feet before it stopped. in pennsylvania, a propane heater being blamed for carbon monoxide deaths of five people including three children. the victims were guests staying in a cabin over the weekend. police say the mother of the two kids had left the cabin early in the morning after a night of partying. they don't believe there's any evidence for any criminal charges. the family of a california woman found stabbed to death is begging her fiance to turn himself in. a manhunt is under way for orville fleming, a state fire chief. police suspect him of killing sarah douglas who was found dead in the home that they shared. she was on the phone with her sister when she was attacked. fleming's pickup truck was found abandoned. there's been no sign of him. officials at the mgm grand in las vegas are investigating

years old, eddie andreini was flipping the plane and flew close to the ground and the plane veered and slammed into the ground. witnesses say the plane burned on the tarmac for some time before the fire crews could get to it. >> an eternity for first responders. >> why weren't they getting out there? every five seconds it seemed to take forever. >> officials say they will hook into the positioning of fire crews during the show. >> another witness at the show posted video on youtube show the plane on fire with thick smoke coming from the wreckage as first responders arrive. our reporter will have more coming up in a report in 30 minutes. we will have the latest on the air show tragedy and we have updates at
