be prepared for 67 to 73 around the bay. 70 to 77 inland. 59 along the coast. 66 in downtown san francisco. while it may be quiet in your neighborhood, those breezes will pick up this afternoon. a check of the morning commute. >> covering this accident in danville. not just any kind of accident, involving a stolen car pursuit. amy hollyfield will bring us more details in a minute. southbound 680. we're seeing heavy traffic there but it is a sig-alert with two lanes b blocked. let's take a live look. san jose and see what happens happening along 280 as you come away from 17. traffic funneling smoothly away from southbound 17. more on the pursuit that came to a violent end in the east bay.

amy holdly field is live along 680. >> at 19-year-old michael hold often concord in that car. he was driving it when it tumbled down that embankment from 680 to this road where on, lagonda in danville. he was not ejected from the car but he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. this all started at 10:30 in conco concord. an officer saw a car driving recklessly, so he started to pursue it. the driver took the car on to 608 and the chase ban with speeds up to 100 miles per hour. the driver lost control, he busted through a guardrail off of southbound 680 north of el serro road and fell down this embankment, crashed and was taken to the hospital. they have figured out the car was stolen. they have a lane closed on

southbound 680 and they think that they might be here working on this situation and that lane could be shut down until midmorning. plan accordingly. live in danville, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. a mountain lion off the streets of mountain view after causing quite a raucous in the middle of town outside its natural habitat. the big cat forced evacuations that lasted several hours last night. matt keller live with how to all started and ended. matt? >> reporter: kristen, certainly was an interesting night here in mountain view. a mountain lion spotted roaming the city streets before the law caught up with the big cat. the excitement all came to an end with no one being hurt, and the mountain lion tranquilized. first spotted 6:30 around the corner on rengstorff near central expressway. police set up a perimeter, told residents to stay inside and call 911 if they saw the animal. it was surrounded in the garage

here on 2000 block of california street. >> he ended up being underneath a van. so once we identified where he was, we were able to use the puma project associate that came out as well as the game wardens and several of our officers to safely approach the animal, get him to a position where they could tranquilize him. took a minute, minute and a half for the tranquilizer to take effect. >> reporter: the police moved the lion out in a cage after 11:00 last night. wearing a tracking collar from the bay area puma project. the next step for the game ward tonight release the animal back into the wild. no word where that is. this is a big deal on social media, it was a trending topic and the mountain lion actually has its own twitter page now. live in mountain view, matt keller, abc 7 news. 5:04. passengers on a united airlines flight from boston to sfo made an unexpected stop in nebraska

after their plane experienced engine trouble. diverting to lincoln,ny n. around 11:00. the pilot shut down the right engine on the 7 a7. the plane landed safely but crews met the plane on the tarmac as a precaution. united rebooked all passengers on another flight. after spending most of the day at airport in nebraska they arrived in san francisco last night. for the first time we're seeing video from hawaii moments after the teen who stowed a way on a flight to hawaii woke up in the wheel well. a story that defied death and some doubted was true. live in the newsroom with video. >> good morning. it's the proof that has changed the mind of the most defiant experts. right to it, released by hawaii state -- the hawaii state department of transportation. first, you saw there 15-year-old abdi's legs dangling from the

plane's wheel well and he drops to the tarmac. he sits on the ground for ten seconds before getting up again, stumbling towards front of the plane, and there he finds an airport worker and talks to him while standing upright for another three minutes. abc news aviation analyst says he wouldn't be surprised he suffers permanent damage. >> certainly was a period of time in which i thought, i think a lot of us did, this had to be a hoax, because it was supposed to be physiologically impossible. there's a specialized way of cooling the body and needing no oxygen for five hours in that case, obviously with the video, it is confirmed. >> he told officials on april 20th he jumped a fence at airport and hid in the wheel well of a hawaiian airlines plane bound for maui. he told the airport manager he ran away after a fight with his parents.

he's in the custody of santa clara county social services but the director cannot confirm that due to child privacy laws. police plan to interview him. san jose airport authorities say a review of their surveillance video doesn't show the teen going over the fence but they admit there are gaps in coverage and more cameras are being added. katie marzullo. it's 5:07. san francisco fire crews rushed to help after a passenger in a car shot in front of the fire station. it happened 6:00 last night near the station on evans avenue in the bayview. witnesses say, someone in this red audi was shot in the head. police say where it happened may have saved the victim's life. >> right on the scene. as a matter of fact, i think the call came from the fire department. hopefully the best of the injured person. it had to happen but being that the fire department and paramedics arrived on scene, they were able to get treatment right away. >> the victim's condition has

not been released, no arrests have been made in the case. new details in the shooting of a man who ended up in the wrong u fnit of his san francis apartment building. he will not be charged for shootishoot guillermo after entering the wrong apartment 68-year-old was taken into custody but expected to be released. the d.a. needs more evidence before decide what to do next. officials are investigating whether or not to file criminal charges against the u.s. postal service and a tree trimming company. after several baby shore birds were killed outside downtown oakland post office saturday. tree trimmers sawed branches of several ficus trees, sending the nests of night herons and chicks

covering venetia, san ramon, the bay area, this is abc 7 news. >> gorp. 5:14. president obama sending a specialized military and law enforcement force that includes hostage negotiators to nigerian to track down nearly 300 teenage girls kidnapped from their school. they were taken three weeks ago by the militant group boko haram. 11 more kidnapped from a village monday. the nigerian government does not know where they are and is accepting help from the u.s. we talked to a human trafficking expert who says the girls will likely be scarred for life even if rescued the stories are horrific. they are beaten, if they complain at all. they're brutalized. there's rapes often in forced

labor. after rescued they carry this with them. >> a french news agency reported some girls were sold as brides to militants in neighboring countries for about $12. stanford university taking a stand on global climate change. the university's the largest school in the nation to say it won't invest in coal mining companies. the trustees made the announcement yesterday as the white house issued its global climate report. stanford won't use any of its $18 billion endowment to invest in 100 publicly traded companies that extract coal. critics say it's a publicity stunt since stanford uses products with coal. tesla set to announce first quarter earning today. the company produces 600 vehicles a week and plans to raise production to 1,000 cars a week by the end of the year. tesla announced it expects sales to grow from 22,000 last year to

bay that you were just talking about on 680. 19-year-old is in the hospital with serious injuries after leading officers on a high-speed chase that started in concord and ended this way in danville. the man driving recklessly and refused to be pulled over. he went off the interstate and rolled down the hill and landed near la gonda way. the vehicle was stolen. developing news here from the south bay where fish and wildlife officers are planning to release a mountain lion back into the wild after he was captured in the parking garage of an apartment complex. that's where we find abc 7 news reporter matt keller live with more on the story. >> reporter: california street is a busy street here in mountain view. apartment complexes are on both sides of streets for several blocks, and it's certainly an unusual place to see a mountain lion roaming. that's what happened last night. this is how to ended with the big cat tranquilized and put in a cage. first sighting came at 6:30 in

the 200 block of south rengstorff near central expressway. it was cornered hiding under the van here. that's when police, game warden and member of the puma project moved in and tranquilized him. this is the heart of the city, a mile away from downtown. >> the cat was seen in an apartment complex heavily lived in, moved over into a park, which is heavily traveled, and came across a decently sized street, didn't get hit by cars. there's a lot of people walking through here. we're very fortunate nobody got hurt and the cat didn't get hurt either. >> reporter: the big cat wearing a tracking collar from the bay area puma project. the animal was put in a cage and taken away by the department of fish and game. the warden is expected to release the cat into the natural habitat. no word on where that will be. matt keller, abc 7 news.

new this morning, san francisco police are looking for the people who are inside a car that hit a pedestrian and another car before kraring incro a building. following a toyota on bay street around 9:40. the car took off and ran a red light. it hit a pedestrian, another car, smashed into a building. the suspects took off on foot. several people later detained but no one is in custody. police searched the aquatic park area. they say they were not chasing the car at the time it crashed. the two victims suffered nonlife threatening victories. new details about a road rage shooting. the victim has died. the car nearly collided with another car yesterday. the drivers stopped, got out, argued. a passenger inside the car that pulled out of mobile home park opened fire. police are still looking for the

gunman. doctors medical center in san pablo one step closer to shutting down. yesterday voters rejeked a mail-in tax measure to fund the hospital. 52% supported but it needed two-thirds approve toll pass. it's losing $1 million a month. voters in western walnut creek have approved $122 a year parcel tax. measure a passed with about 75% of voters saying yes. it raises money to maintain curriculums and programs while keeping class sizes small. 5:34. we're getting a first look at surveillance video from hawaii that supports a south bay teenager's story that he survived a five-hour flight to maui hidden in the wheel well of a jet. the video shows 15-year-old yahya abdi emerging from the

hold. he appears disorder yenned after he endured subzero temperatures and very little oxygen during the flight. he engages an airport worker, the video shows abdi speaking with him for three minutes. he's in the custody of child protective services in santa clara county. he stowed away to see his mother in africa. the woman at center of the donald sterling scandal in the nba is being investigated for extortion. our sister station reports los angeles county district attorney is looking into whether v stiviano used the recordings for extortion pop two lawmakers introduced a bill to close an income tax loophole.

. prosecutors have dropped a criminal charge against a transgender high school student from he cuelies. charged with misdemeanor battery after a fight with three students in november. she was bullied and fought back. as part of the deal, she'll attend a teen conflict program. the san francisco landlord who gave tenants a letter requiring them to have an annual income of at least $100,000 has now apologized for sending it. tenants of the rent-controlled apartment building say the landlord had gone too far in making unlawful demands. some paying rent well below market value claim they're being harassed. the housing right advocates say landlords cannot require an existing tenant provide income verification. shelton sent another note resending the earlier warning saying it contained information

that was flawed. president obama is coming to california and the bay area. he'll stop at university of southern california tonight to receive an award for his global efforts to protect human rights and attend a political fund-raiser in los angeles. tomorrow, the president will come to the bay area for two silicon valley fund-raisers including one co-hosted by marissa mayer. on friday, he'll be at a walmart store to praise the company's goal of receiving 100% of its energy from renewable sources. this is the president's tenth fund-raising visit in three years. his last trip to california was in november and that included several events here in san francisco. it's 5:37. still looking at coolish temperatures. but, mike, keeping an eye on possible rain? >> yep, yep, possible rain tomorrow, that's the key, it's possible. not a lot. if you're traveling, coming through the ferry building that's the warmest spot in san francisco, 54. downtown 53. heading to the mission district,

children to screen their employees. supporters say it would protect children against sex offenders and other convicted criminals. the county is preparing a report to examine the costs of such a program. miami police have released two emergency calls made during the incident involving a mystery woman and 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick. the calls appear to back kaepernick's version that he did nothing wrong. one call from a man who identifies himself as hotel security. a second caller says he's ricardo lockette. of the the seattle seahawks. he tells police the woman in his holtz apartment refuses to leave. from what is she wearing. >> she took her clothes off and lay on the bed. >> fully naked on the bed? >> yes. okay. she's waiting for a boyfriend, is that it? >> no, no. not her boyfriend. he's someone she wants to sleep with. >> the woman told police she somehow wound up in the hospital after kissing kaepernick, undressing in his room, and passing out. early information from police

indicates kaepernick may have already left the apartment before the woman refused to leave, and his friends called 911. no one has been charged in the case. warriors search for a new head coach begins a day after the team fired mark jackson. it was a decision based on what would make the organization better as a whole. he says even though the team won 51 games last season, he expected the team to do better. jackson had a 121-109 record over three seasons taking the warriors to the playoffs the past two seasons. jackson's firing does not make sense to a lot of warriors fans. >> a longtime warrior fan, over 30-plus years, we know how it's been. it's been really bad and he showed success, and i don't get it. >> i think the fans should know or understand that they need to trust us. they need to really trust us. maybe they do, maybe they don't, it's our job to prove it. >> top candidates, steve kerr,

the 19-year-old shooter opened fire on his co-workers. he left a suicide note but authorities say he does not provide a motive for the attack. a blogger who wrote about losing more than 170 pounds is taking a popular fitness magazine to task. brooke birmingham used to weigh 327 pounds. in four years, she cut her weight in half with no surgery or fad diets. when "shape" magazine heard about brooke's accomplishment they asked her before and after photos. look closely now. so brooke sent in this picture showing the excess skin that a person has when they lose that much weight. but when the magazine asked for a new photo asking not to wear the bikini but a shirt. she posted the article on her blog. she says she is proud of the way her body looks now and "shape" says it was all a misunderstanding. >> abc 7 morning news continue
