>> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks four joining us on this sunday, mother's day may 11th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, carolyn. happy mother's day to all of you. the sun coming up in about three minutes. we have clear skies. still breezy winds in the upper elevation bus they are shifting to the north. we are look at a warmer start in some areas. you can see the cameras shaking here from the east bay hills camera. we are looking at numbers ranging from the upper 40s to

60 degrees. so temperatures in santa rosa 48. san francisco and oakland in the 60s. 47 in concord. we are looking at those hilltop winds still gusting to nearly 30 miles an hour. that will remain the case again today but notice they are out of the north and we will be looking at the winds at the surface on the breezy side. not as windy as yesterday. with the warmer atmosphere we are in the mid-60s at the coast but not feeling much change here because they will be cubs again gusty. around the bay low 70s to upper 70 he's. and inland a few 80s coming into play and we will talk about the 90s as soon as tomorrow. carolyn. >> thank you lisa. >> we have breaking news where officers are investigating an officer involved shooting. it happened in the area of story road and jackson avenue last night. officers spotted someone driving a vehicle that had been stolen. when officers tried to stop the

driver, he rammed two patrol cars. investigators say one of the officers, fearing for her safety, then shot the man. he was taken to the hospital. no word yet on his condition. a female passenger in the suspect's vehicle has been taken into custody. a police chase ended with a crash along a freeway in the east bay. it happened about 10:00 last night on northbound interstate 880 near marina boulevard in san leandro. the officers said the driver refused to stop after officers tried to stop the consider for speeding. deputies captured two people who ran away. one managed 20 escape. deputies also found two guns inside the car. a fundraiser is underway for

the family of a man killed last week in san jose and those responsible for organizing the fundraiser are the ones looking for the killer. >> this family is heartbroken. losing the 37 year old father of two has been devastating. i spoke with the family through the help of an interpreter. >> she's not mad she's sorry this than her and taken away the father of her child. >> lam was shot tuesday after an apparent case of road wage. he died at the hospital. lam worked 7 days a week, 17 hour days as a bus driver so his wife could stay home and take care of their two young sons. the oldest son has a severe case of autism. >> this officer has two kids of his own. after hearing about tuesday tragedy, he knew he had to help so he launched the online fundraising campaign and in less

than 24 hours he's raised $10,000. >> they aren't living in luxury housing or anything like that. and special needs for the seven-year-old, especially him. he needs constant care. these days all that fills the house is sorrow. may is typically a month of celebrations. there's now a new plan for mother's day. >> we will gather around here at night and have mother's day with him. >> lam's funeral will take place may 16th. it would have been his 38th birthday. in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. san francisco police want to find the person who drove away after hitting a man near city hall. it happened just before 8:00 last night at golden gate and vanness avenues.

the victim was crossing against a red light. he is expected to survive. the driver of this nissa ultima drove into a construction zone, taking out a giant orange arrow sign and a porta-potty. the contents flowed down the street, creating a smelly health hazard in the neighborhood and three small cars were also hit. >> i am like, are you serious? we just fixed this month about a month ago. that just was the killer part about it you know what i mean? i mean mother's day is coming up tomorrow and this is how we are going to celebrate it? >> the driver has been cited for not having a license or insurance, and could face reckless driving charges. president obama is offering his congratulations to michael sam, the first openly gay player in the nfl. the st. louis rams selected sam in the seventh round of the draft. abc7 news reporter nick smyth has more on the reaction.

doors. people who turned out yesterday said they would ask for help from the contra costa board of supervisors on tuesday. they say the closer will have devastating effects on their patience. >> some people don't have transportation. fortunately life will be lost. >> last week voters rejected a partial tax measure to fund the hospital. the hospital is currently losing more than $1 million a month. >> organizers are opening bay area residents will turn out in force again today to save the life of a 7-year-old boy battling leukemia. list name is baylor fredrickson, and his fight is especially challenging because he's multi-ethnic. his parents are japanese and german. so for a search for a mixed-race bone marrow match has come up empty. yesterday people from all over went to the bone marrow drive to

see if they are a match for the young boy. >> anybody and everybody should come out and be a part of the program. just because you never know. you never know what's going to happen down the road. you never know -- yeah. we never expected this to happen to us. >> baylor endured chemotherapy two years ago. they thought it eradicated the leukemia but it returned and now a bone marrow transplant is the only other option. another drive will be held today in walnut creek and it's at the mother's day stroll from 11 to 4. >> strong winds blew across the bay area yesterday. you see just how gusty it was in san francisco. it was so bad the great highway was shut down yesterday afternoon because all of that sand was blowing across the road. no word on when it will reopen. the wind caused some scary moments a few miles away at harding park golf course. that's because a tree branch fell on to a minivan just before

4:00 yesterday afternoon. everyone in the car got out okay. and an entire tree fell on east 17th street in oakland. part of that tree knocked out a power line near the san antonio recreation center but electricity has since been restored. yes, it was quite brisk yesterday, lisa. >> we will still have gusty winds at the coast. up to 35 miles an hour. but the winds backing off around the bay and they are switching around a bit. that's going to aid in our warming. sunny skies, temperatures in the low 60s here. we will talk about low 70s for san francisco, 80s come into play this afternoon. i'll tell you where and how warm we are going to get next. >> thank you lisa. also next a tiny chihuahua recovering after an unusual rescue on interstate 680. we will hear from the man who saved the day. and a special day planned for more than 500 courageous kids battling cancer.

>> this morning rescue efforts are set to resume in hopes of fine throwing men, missing after a speedboat capsized at folsom lake in sacramento county. divers searched until day light left yesterday but were unsuccessful. three men were believed to be aboard before they were thrown into the lake before 2:00 yesterday. >> the judge over access to a san mateo county beach has

ordered a silicon valley billionaire, neno, to testify when trial resumes in redwood city tomorrow. at issue, a private road that leads to martin's beach, just south of half moon bay. that road is the only way to access the secluded beach by land. it was closed by neno, who owns the property. the suit filed by the foundation claims the venture capitalist did not obtain the proper permits to close the road and argues that's a violation of the california coastal act. two dogs that got loose in an east bay neighborhood and bit man and woman earlier this month will be euthanized. the attacks happened on may 1st in brentwood on hudson drive and nunn street. our media partner "the contra costa times" reports the dogs, a pit bull and a labrador retriever, have been held in quarantine since the attacks. they will be put down tomorrow. authorities say it was the owner's decision to have the dogs euthanized. new details are emerging about a tiny chihuahua rescued

friday from the median of a bay area freeway. the dog is now in the custody of the the contra costa animal care shelter in martinez. highway patrol officers found her on the concrete median of interstate 680. that was in walnut creek on friday. the man said he tried everything to keep her from running into traffic from using a bag of trail mix to calm her down. >> try to keep her calm so it wouldn't attempt to run from us and be afraid of us, which is why i went to food to see if i could get him on my side. >> edmunds and a fellow officer were successful. they stayed with the dog until animal control arrived. the chihuahua is still fighting, but otherwise in good health. already people are calling with adoption offers. >> animals being rescued in situations like this, they garner a lot of attention, they garner, i call them, overnight celebrity status. this animal, she's certainly a celebrity at this point.

thinks are waiting to see if the dog's owner comes forward before they put her up for adoption. investigators say they still don't know how the dog got on the median. an 11-year-old south bay boy born with a rare heart condition is on a quest to beat the odds again by getting a black belt. he has been studying mixed martial arts since he was 7 years old. this, despite being born with half a heart and having undergone three open heart surgeries. according to our media partner the contra costa times, he took the test yesterday to see if he qualifies for a first degree black belt. and he will find out the results in about a week. happening today, more than 500 children battling cancer will take a special trip to california's great america for the 25th annual courageous kids day. the kids will take rides at the

park, have a pick tech lunch and visit with snoop by and other mascots. the event is organized by the american cancer society for children ages 18 and under who have undergone cancer treatment in northern california. today's event runs from eleven to two. and it won't be so windy for those kids today. lisa argen is here now with your accuweather forecast. >> it will still be breezy around the bay but warmer air is working its way into the bay today. it will be windy at the coast. so that is not entirely a different story. but we are looking at a wind shift and there's -- we also have some breezy winds from the upper elevations working down to the surface. but that's transporting the warmer air so it's working in our favor for a better afternoon today if you are away from the coast. still very gusty there. live doppler 7hd it's nice and clear and there is the wind in the city here near the room camera. it has allowed temperatures to climb to about 60 in the past hour. with the breeze we will look for

the warmer weather but that will be offset in some of the areas where the wind gets channeled and we have the gusts. certainly with 35 mile-an-hour winds later on today, half moon bay even though you will take my bicycle the 60s, it will feel cool. winds here nearly 30 miles an hour from vollmer peak. looking nice and calm out there right now over the bay. 58 in fairfield. but it will be another breezy one with upper 40s santa rosa right now. 49 in the livermore valley. this is where it looks so, so calm from emeryville. here are the forecast highlights. clear and cool, warmer for mother's day. getting warm to very hot by tuesday and wednesday. but even tomorrow we will be touching around 90 in some areas. just getting close. so here's a hook at our radar and satellite composite. we are looking at just a little bit less wind and the wind will be shifting today. so it will be coming out of the northwest. already lighter north winds. but with the breeze along the

coast it's going to take another day or so for the high to build in and really switch the winds to that offshore component. 10:00 today still 25 miles an hour winds around the bay. look what happens along the coast late today. yep, we are still up to the 35 mile-an-hour and before, point raise, half moon bay. breezy here around livermore and fairfield. but your numbers are going to go into the low 60s. and by tomorrow afternoon look what happens. we have a light offshore flow. so we are looking at temperatures as much as 10 to 15 degrees warmer for your monday. another 10 degrees tuesday. into wednesday maybe even a little more warming where the heat will peek. 10 in yosemite today. we had snow yesterday in the sierra nevada. 58 in lake a tahoe. 65 monterey. temperatures in the south bay ranging from the upper 70s milpitas and sunnyvale, 74 santa cruz, 77 redwood city.

mid-60s with the gusty winds here along the coast. san francisco 68 in the sunset. downtown 71. and in the north bay low 80s for cloverdale. 79 in napa. vallejo 80. stinson 64 degrees and over here in the east bay, 76 in oakland, as well as hayward. look for 77 berkeley and cost strow valley 58. head inland a few low 80s. northwest winds keeping it enjoyable from pleasanton to brentwood. tuesday and wednesday the offshore flow, mid-and upper 90s inland upper 70s at the beaches. it will be very nice there but still on the warm side and finally cooling off for everyone on friday. we will let you know how warm it will take my bicycle your community. keep track of bay area weather on twitter. if you don't like it midweek, you can just stick around and friday, saturday starting to cool back down? >> yeah, definitely. >> all right, thank you,

day for mother's day. 48 in san jose. 50 half moon bay, 58 in the city, as well as oakland. hilltop winds up to 28 miles an hour over the east bay hills and mt. tam. that's not going to change but what will change is the warmer air working into the bay. already 13 degrees warmer in napa, 10 degrees warm he by the delta. cooler in san jose and livermore but you will take my bicycle the upper 70s and low 80s in some locations. into the 60s, but you won't feel that mild along the coast because the wind is still quite gusty here. elsewhere upper 70s and 80s coming into play. we will talk about the 90s in a few minutes. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. investigators are trying to determine what caused a small plane to crash in northern arizona, killing one person and injuring five others. that plane carrying french tourists and it crashed while trying to land at an airport in

page near the utah border. in all seven people were on board when it hit the ground and flipped over in windy conditions. united airlines says a boeing 757 will undergo a thorough inspection after a flight from los angeles to hawaii had to turn back and make an emergency landing. it happened yesterday. united flight 1296 was about 70 minutes into it's journey when the crew reported smoke in the cabin. the plane returned to l.a.x. and passengers were told to put on their oxygen masks and life jackets just in case. two fighter planes escorted the plane back to california. >> the crew was very professional, they took care of everyone and we got back safe and sound. >> well, passengers were then rebooked on another united flight. two of the members of the university of richmond women basketball programs have been identified as the casualties from friday's hot-air balloon in virginia. assistant coach jenne about

doyle and director of basketball operations in thely lewis were on board that balloon when it struck a power line catching fire. the search for a third person believed to be the pilot will resume this morning. developing news, at least 18 people have died after a wall collapsed at a recycling plant in eastern china. preliminary reports suggest heavy rains may have caused the walls to crush a house for workers in which 40 people were gathered. chinese state media reports three other people were hurt. china's eastern coastal and southern regions have been drenched by heavy rains in recent days. voters have gone to the polls in two regions in eastern ukraine to decide on a referendum declaring sovereignty. the referendums were conducted by pro russian insurgents and they are not regarded as legitimate by the west. it comes as both germany and france are pressuring vladimir putin to to more to calm the situation. in the bay area yesterday

supporters of peace in ukraine held a unity rally and march across golden gate bridge. it called for an end to violence in the country and in their words stand up against putin. the pentagon said chuck hagel will talk to lawmakers about another round of military cuts despite rejection business -- from congress. coming up on "this week" we will hear more from the defense secretary after the house voted to reject house saving proposals that would have included closing old military bases and retiring aging aircraft. you can catch it right here at 8:00 this morning on "this week." happening today a group of homeless mothers in the bay area will get the royal treatment in san francisco. it's all part of the 20th annual mother's day brunch hosted by the hamilton family shelter. moms will receive makeovers and hairstyling before getting on a cable car and heading to the sir francis drake hotel for brunch
