wildfires. there was a wildfire on highway 101 near the airport. the department tweeted pictures of the scene. the fire briefly closed some lanes on southbound 101 at 11:30 this morning. san jose firefighters say the fire indicates fire season has begun. you can see she smoke -- the smoke from the fire. our wildfire threat is only expected to increase. let's check in now with spencer christian. >> as you pointed out the warmup has begun here and only going to get warmer. perhaps with some health risks attached to it. right now the live doppler 7hd showing sunny skies across the bay area, and happy mother's day to all the moms. we have an excessive heat watch in effect for virtually the entire bay area, with the exception of the peninsula. tuesday afternoon through wednesday evening, high temperatures between 96 and 102. warm nightness the bay area

mills college. the car hit several trees before rolling over and trapping four people inside. a fifth person was able to get out and was found several blocks away. >> in san jose, teenage boy who police say was driving a stolen car was shot by officers. police say one officer opened fire when the driver rammed his vehicle into patrol cars. happened just before midnight on story road when police tried to pull over a car that had been reported stolen. >> attempts failed when the officers tried to box the suspect's vehicle in. the suspect began to go ahead and strike at least two other patrol vehicles in the area. >> a girl who was a passenger in the stolen car was taken into custody. police are not releasing the aims of the people inside. the boy is recovering in the hospital. two developing news. ballots are being counseled by insurgents in ukraine say 92% of

voters support sovereignty. people went to the polls today in controversial referendums; russia claimed control of nearby crimea during a vote there in march. a cnn crew says they saw self people vote twice at one polling station, where the ballot boxes were decorated with independence flags. separatingists are denying any charges. reporter: pro-russian separatists streamed into polling stations today to vote in a referendum demanding independence and rejecting the government in kiev. it was a hastily arranged and unofficial vote that the united states today called illegal. there was only one rather ambiguous question on the ballot. are you in favor of self-rule, and every voter we spoke with, every ballot we saw, said yes. the vote happened as the deadly violence continues. ukrainian forces opening fire on

a crowd of pro-russian separatists. ukraine's government is continuing with the so-called anti-terrorist operation but with each passing day and more and more of this part of the country falls out of their control. what the vote means in concrete terms has yesterday to be determined. what is clear is that divisions are deepening, chaos is growing, and no one knows what will happen next. abc news in eastern ukraine. >> a young girl who escaped the same men who kidnapped nigerian students is talking about what happened. this comes as protesters, celebrities, even first lady michelle obama pressed government leader to do more to rescue more than 200 nigerian girls them girl ran into the brush while her classmates were forced on to seven large trucks.

35 homeless moms got a makeover and pampering today. the hamilton shelter hosted its 20th annual mother's day brunch today in san francisco. these women got their hair and makeup done before hopping a cable car to the starlight room for lunch. this is the third year liz berry has gotten the royal treatment. she says before getting help from hamilton, mother's day wasn't important to her. >> it means so much more to me now than it did then, but that was the beginning of me coming into my own motherhood. i'm a much better mother than i was three years ago without a doubt. hamilton shelter director say the event is designed to give these women a self-esteem boost and helps them as they work to get a permanent place to live. a storm chaser came to the rescue after a tornado touched down in missouri. he was shooting footage of damage when he discovered a woman trapped in the rubble of her home.

tomorrow, air quality will be declining, excessive heat watch from tuesday afternoon to wednesday evening, and we expect temperatures to be around or just above 100 degrees. it's going to be quite hot. here's our satellite radar composite image showing the development of the weather. clear skies from coast, hardly a cloud to be found, and we'll have a warm to hot pattern developing, big ridge of high pressure dominates the weather and a hot air mass will dominate us. so tuesday, wednesday, thursday, the middle of the week, the hottest days in the forecast period. and speaking of hot, let's look at the projected temperature range in san jose as an indicator of the other parts of the bay area. the average high temperature in san jose is 75. we'll see 88 the tomorrow. 92 on wednesday. 97 wednesday. 94 thursday, and 86 on friday.

and that's indicative of the inland locations over the next five to seven days. overnight, look for clear skies tonight. low temperatures on the mild side. generally low to mid-50s. and then tomorrow, sunny skies, highs in the south bay, upper 80s to around 90. morgan hill. and we'll see mid-to-upper 80s. mid-to-upper 70s on the coast. pacifica and half moon bay in and around san francisco, highs, 79. downtown. 80, south san francisco, 76. sunset district. mid-70s on the coast, and inland, 87. and santa rosa and sonoma. 88. east bay highs, san leandro, 86. fremont, inland east bay, around 90 degrees at livermore, antioch, fairfield, and walnut creek. here's the seven day forecast. a hot mid-week. by wednesday we'll see inland highs around 100 degrees, perhaps even higher in some
