investigators are looking into the cause of a stubborn fire at a san jose landfill first reported at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. 11 engines were called in to put out the fire and access to water was a problem for crews with the nearest hydrant half a mile away. >> the reason for the number of engines is the size of the fire and the fact we have no water resources on the hill. the engines are running out of water and coming back down to refill the tanks before they can fight the fire. >> the scene was cleared at 10:00, and residents were advised to close their windows and shelter in place if they smelled smoke but that has been lifted. >> a baby is in stable condition after nearly drowning in a swimming pool in concord. paramedics were called to this house near concord boulevard and farm bureau road after 6:00 last night. concord police say when officers got there they were performing

cpr but the baby was not responsible. officers took over. police are trying to figure identity what was happening at the house before the baby fell in the pool. we are hearing from donald sterling the l.a. clippers spoonier banned for life from the nba. it is the first spended interview since being banned. in the interview he apologized for the first time and insists he is not racist. the interview comes as the nab -- nba says if the ownership is determine natured so is his estranged wife. >> i apologize and ask for forgiveness. am i entitled to one mistake? i love my league. it is a terrible mistake, am i bathed to one mistake? i will never do it again. >> shelly sterling sat down with barbara walters in an interview

covering walnut creek, burlingame, campbell and all the bay area this is abc7 news. one person is dead and three injured following an officer-involved shooting at universal studios in southern california. it happened at 1:30 this morning with the plaza filled with restaurants and retail shops. witnesses say a deejay competition was taking place and a fight broke out. officers arrive and heard shots fired and a suspect armed with handgun. no word on what led to the

shooting but the person who died was not an officer. if you missed it, michael sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted into the nfl. he turned to his boyfriend to kiss and embrace him upon hearing the st. louis rams trusted him. this video went viral sparking reaction from around the country. some of it, negative. now, an nfl player is facing suspension and a fine for publicly tweeting his disapprove al. miami safety don jones said "horrible," and now has deleted it but he is ordered to pay a fine and ordered to take part in an anti-discrimination training. jones issued an apology. sports illustrated is praising opposite for showing sam kissingly boyfriend. the magazine calls the embrace the best moment of the draft. >> the police officers have

arrested a roman catholic priest on charges of statutory rape for engaging in a sexual relationship with a teen girl he befriended while working at st. james parish. he is listed as one of the two staff pastors. >> the closest i have been to a priest or in a parish accused of this and i am blown away. >> i am heartbroken. i cannot believe it. >> the church says he is put on leave and may not perform duties during the ongoing investigation. a bill making its way through state congress could allow underage college students to drink which will. the bill would allow scholars of wine making and beer brewing to taste alcohol as part of their course work. a committee advanced the bill last week which is are strategicked to students enrolled if brewing programs so elective students need not apply.

tonight, probably going to be easy to get the house to cool down if you open up the ones and run the fan. it is moving forward that we are going do have a hard time getting the houses to cool down as the high pressure moves in and the temperatures at night hang out in the 60's. that is why tuesday night, when night, and thursday night, not going to be great sleeping nights. by the week, we are 20 to 25 degrees cooler. >> we have three lanes blocked in oakland southbound on the nimitz if you are trying to leave oakland and head toward san lorenzo you will find a jam involving a couple of vehicles. we have some lanes blocked causing the backup. you are down to 13 miles per hour. 580 is a much better drive if you do need to make it down to 238 and head on to 238 and 880 what gets you on your way. in the northbound direction

>> thanks for joining us. >> we begin a lot week and we will start with meteorologist mike nicco. mike? >> it is hazy around napa and novato and the east bay valleys is what i am concerned with because of poor air quality. taking the ferry, the water is calm. the east bay will have poor air quality and starting tomorrow we will keep the poor air quality through wednesday and maybe thursday. in the 40's and 50's now and 60's to 80's by noon and 70's to 80's by 4:00 and back into the 60's, 70's and 80's at 7:00 with total sunshine today. the ferries are sailing on time with 51 bart trains on track. ace trains 1, 3, 7, though delays.

101 is 15 miles per hour approaching highway 116. the speeds pick up and in novato, 67 might be southbound of highway 37. bumper-to-bumper traffic away from highway four and at the hoffman political you will see the bumper-to-bumper traffic again and it eases up through berkeley and you are back on the breaks to the maze so from highway 4 to the maze is 25 minutes. the bay area begins this week on heat watch and coincides with california firefighters beefing up their defensive ranks especially critical given our drought. and amy hollyfield is at cal fire in sunol. >> they will have 15 trucks stationed here and they usually just have 12 trucks. they will also be training new employees they have hired to get ready for the season can they think is going to be busy. fire officials land to declare the start tire season today for northern california and usually

it doesn't start until the beginning of june. they say 95 percent of the fires are started by people and they are asking everyone to be extra careful with things such as power tools and campfires the next couple of days and especially watching closely uphill. 3,500 elevation ranges are the critical care for fire behavior with no snow pack backup to saturate the ground. we are expecting to see the warmest weather we have had this year over the next couple of days and officials say it will be critical to take good care of yourself and check in on elderly neighbors and suggest you exercise early in the morning if you can, avoid the hottest part of the day and keep hydrated. firefighters are hoping people will be extra careful the next couple of days but they say they will be on high alert and ready to go in case something goes

wrong. breaking overnight in san jose, firefighters have yeared the scene of a vegetation fire that broke out at story and center road this morning. it sparked a homeless encampness and spread an acre before crews knocked it down. no word on the cause. >> investigators are back at scene of a stubborn fire that broke out at a landfill. crews contained the fire at the landfill in san jose around 10:00 last night six hours arrest it was first reported at the property. 11 engines were called to put at the fire. crews had difficulty fighting the flames because of the winds and the nearest hydrant located half a mile away. >> in the east bay a baby is in stable condition after drowning nearly in a swimming pool. paramedics were caughted to this house after 6:00 p.m. last

monuments and visitors can ride an elevator to the talk and look out from the highest point. >> san jose police are looking into what sparked a stabbing that sent a man to the hospital. police were called to archer street at 9:00 last night. officers say a man with several stab wounds sought help at a home. the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. investigators followed the blood trail for a vacant house a few blocks arm where they believe the stabbing happened. >> a cal football player accused of attacking a man and his dog is due in court. the 20-year-old cal safety kicked the dog and punched him in the face repeatedly during an altercation. according to the attorney several witnesses say the victim's dog attacked him first and he has been suspended pending further investigation. >> oakland police officers unprecedented overtime has caused concern of public safety
