deadly. during a check for hotspots firefighters were alerted to a transient encampment and found a badly burned body. the investigation is ongoing. police have made two arrests, two young people, a 19-year-old and unnamed 17-year-old, unnamed because he is a juvenile, were arrested on suspicious of try together start ii fires. investigators are trying to determine if they had any involvement in the massive fires that now is done so much damage. in fact, there is another fire. authorities say there are ten fires burning in san diego county and they have scorched more than 15 square miles. they have destroyed dozens of structures and forced 125,000 evacuation orders since the fires broke out. the most active fire is in san marcos and cal fire says it charred 1,200 acres. the biggest fire is at camp pendleton marine base at 6,000

acres and a firefighter there had to be treated for heat exhaustion which is the other known injury at this point. crews took a break from the heat and the wind today. cal ran has another 20 on the eastern span of the bay bridge that could be trouble in an earthquake. rods that hold a cable in place have shifted and are off center. more than two-thirds of the 274 woulds are too close to sharp edged plates inside the belly of the bridge and the concern is in an earthquake the rods could be damaged by friction. caltran has known about the problem for some time but it will take months and millions to fix, the latest in a string of issues with the $6 why 4 billion bridge. matt chemicaller is here at the top of the hour with more on possible solutions. >> new details from congress following the death of an armed woman shot and killed by a conquer police officer.

the woman has been identified at a 57-year-old valerie hawkins. show was suicidal and called sunday saying she had a gun. the officers went to the house on pacheco street and pound her outside holding a gun. hawkins refused to drop the firearm and pointed it at an officer would shot her once in self-defense. neighbors are stunned. >> we saw police kneeling with guns drawn. behind the parked car. right outside the house. my daughter said she saw the woman sitting on the front porch. >> hawkins died at scene. she has a history of mental illness. the contra costa county sheriff and district attorney are investigating. san jose police say a man called them after he stab add woman to death in the eastern foothills. a woman was found suffering from multiple stab wounds at home on canyon ridge drive.

police have recovered what appear to be murder weapon. the two knew each other. this is the 16th homicide of 2014. >> a north bay tech executive will be arraigned on charges of assault with a deadly weapon in collection with a violent road rage incident. the 40-year-old seen in this youtube video was riding a bicycle and he got into an altercation with the driver of a pickup truck. the truck driver was found bloody and unconscious. the driver has recovered. he is founder of a software company and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. >> a cal football player accused of attacking man and his dog is scheduled to be arraigned. he kicked the man's dog and punched him in the face repeatedly during an argument near campus. the player's attorney says the victim's dog attacked him first.

he has been suspended from the team during the investigation. >> a teacher an all boy's catholic high school in san mateo is suing the school and the archdiocese. the students at the high school harassed her and other female teachers for years and the school didn't do enough to stop it. the boys competed to get upskirt videos of their teachers. the school say they expelled six students and suspended six others and cooperating with police. >> a congressman is holding a oakland to talk about message that can prevent security breaches like the one incident at san jose international airport. he toured the airport after a teen scaled the fence and got on a jet bound for hawaii. he spent several hours on the tarmac before hiding in the rear well of the plane. he wants a t.s.a. program to determine the best method to

last week, a chihuahua found by c.h.p. officers has been reunited with her owners. this photo burned up social media in the bay area.
