to rage across across the county. good morning at 6:00. it is friday. i am kristen sze. >> i am eric thomas. it is cooler in parts of the bay area. mike? >> maybe the co-workers are not looking so sleepy this morning. fairfield is 16 miles per hour. 12 at sfo. eight at oakland. that is the sea breeze. now a look at the bay, breezy and upper 60's and a mild 68 at 7:00. inland we have temperatures in the 50's and high clouds and sunshine and nearly 80 at noon with mid-80's at 4:00 and a comfortable 75 at 7:00 that will enbrisk loan the coast. you will need a coat with 54 this morning. low-to-mid 60's throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

quite a beautiful friday morning, everyone, we have 45 bart train on time and it is friday light. look at this, the altamont pass and we never see it like this, even for friday it seeps like. 42 miles per hour and the crunch of traffic has migrated to vasco and 31 minutes from tracy to dublin and highway four is moving along beautifully. san rafael to san francisco is slower than normal but the golden gate bridge is moving along fine. more details on that ahead. we start with breaking news from the north bay, several suspicious fires are under investigation in novato with eight fires committing one --

including one this morning. a crew is gathering information in novato and we will have a report at 6:30. >> in the east bay, firefighters and home owners are watching walnut creek where someone has been lighting fires in a popular park. we told you about the suspicious fires yesterday on the news at 4:00. a few hours later another fire broke out. our reporter, amy hollyfield, is in walnut creek. amy? >> they saying they have had five fires in eight days. they believe it is arson. there is no evidence of cigarette butts or fireworks so they believe it is a "hot start." one comes to the dry grass and take as lighter or match and sets it on fire. the most recent fire happened last night. only half an acre burned. firefighters got it out quickly. it happened on the hill above the park in walnut creek. it is an area with a lot of dry hills. there are a lot of homes in the

area. residents are nervous. fires have not reached any homes but it is very dry and the firefighters are worried. >> the fires have been small is we been lucky. we do not is the normal afternoon winds we usually expect. that has, worked in our favor. the problem is, the fires are more and more continuous. we are getting them sooner after each other. it is so dry up there it do spread. if it spreads it could wipe out a neighbor. >> it is believed kids could be setting the fires and they all happen right at the time that school is getting out but for the one that happened last night and someone did spot a group of kids leaving the area of a fire right before the fire started. they saw some kids there. they are asking for more tips like that to come in and asking the residents to be on high alert. they need help to prevent this

and catch who is doing it. weary firefighters go on the lines this morning to battle the string of wildfires burning thousands of acres and destroyed homes in san diego county. the fires have now turned deadly. law enforcement is now involved. katie marzullo is in the newsroom with that information. and local firefighter are on the front lines in san diego and fremont and oakland and hayward and livermore have all sent people down there. this is a new focus this morning. that is on law enforcement the police have arrested two people, a 19-year-old and an unnamed 17-year-old accused of trying to start two fires. investigators have to determine if the two had any involvement in starting the massive fires that have done so much damage. arson is not being ruled out. >> it would be pure speculation

to say whether they were set by a car, individual...we just don't know. we are vetting. >> san diego has up to ten fires that is scorched 15 square miles. dozens of structures have been destroyed and forces 125,000 evacuation orders. some are being lifted. san marcos is the most active fire. the largest fire is at camp pendleton with 6,000 acres burned in the fire. >> there now at least one confirmed death in the fire. during a check for hotspots a badly burned body was found in a homeless encampment in carlsbad. a photographer covering the wildfires was in the thick of the action. a load of fire retardant was

say the man appeared to be in his early 50's with brown hair and the woman had brown and gray hair. a 20-year old woman accused of attacking a four-year-old girl with a tire iron in wal-mart faces hate crime charges and is charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. police say she used a tire iron to attack the little girl and her father at the wal-mart because though are asian. if convicted, she could spend her life in prison. the girl and the father are recovering. >> animal rights activist want a petaluma wildlife museum closed after high school students were caught on video abusing rats. one student is handling feeder rats intended to be eaten by republic ties. the museum is part of petaluma high school. a student claims the classmates smashed rats again the rocks and walls and a petition is urging the governor to close the museum

17th homicide of the year and investigators say a man was shot just after 11:00 last night and the victim died after someone drove him to the hospital. detectives do not know what led to the shooting and so far no one has been arrested. >> this follows another deadly incident in san jose last night. police say a man called them after he stabbed a woman to death in the city's eastern foothills. officers found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds at a home on canyon ridge drive. the suspect and the victim knew each other. the man was calm when they arrived. miss have recovered the murder weapon. the wildfires burning in san diego county have turned deadly after the first fire victim was found by crews. >> law enforcement have made progress arresting two suspected arsonists. our reporter is in the newsroom with the latest. san diego county is up to ten fires that have scorched 15 square miles.

>> amy hollyfield is at park. the park is near homes? >> they are saying this has been five fires in eight days if an area filled with dry brush. homes, too, frame the park. this could be dangerous and firefighters are worried. residents are nervous, the latest fire happened last night on a hill and the firefighters put it out quickly and it only burned half an acre. the residents are worried. it is scary. firefighters think it is arson and have noticed the fires start right when school gets out. this is in the middle of a residential neighborhood and it backs to the open space so the potential is there for a significant even.
