remains high today for millions, following a day of heavy hail, tornadoes and flooding. >> several areas have the potential for dangerous conditions today, including the plains, the tennessee valley, parts of texas and most of the ç east coast.u! >> the fierce weather system already left its mark in colorado. tornadoes and large hail pounded the denver area, damaging cars and even airplanes at the airport.w5k abc's tahman bradley has the latest. >> reporter: a powerful storm socked the denver area. it spawned tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and giant golf ball-sized hail. the sound, menacing. people ran for cover.m/y cars slid, more than an inch of hail fell in some areas. so, it had to be shoveled or even plowed. extreme weather shut down denver international airport. frontier airlines says some of its planes were damaged. snowplows cleared the runways. tense moments in and around the city, after these ominous clouds formed and tornado warnings were issued. >> i'm so scared.

i don't know what's going to happen. but just know i love you. and tell my family that i love them. >> reporter: at least six twisters were spotted, but no significant damage was reported. a different storm system, ravaged parts of the midwest. from ohio -- to indiana. to illinois. in cleveland, spectacular p lightning lit up the sky. in other parts of ohio and pennsylvania, flash flooding closed highways and roads. these vehicles were swallowed up by the deep water. some people were stranded. >> i cannot even go home. i can't. so, i was thinking about going back to work.kozv there's no way out. everywhere you look, the water is high. >> reporter: thursday's forecas] calls for more severe weather, with dangerous thunderstorms across the rockies, the midwest and parts of the east coast. tahman bradley, abc news, washington. also breaking now, that ferocious wildfire, tearing across arizona. it's still 0% contained this morning.

the fire has already forced evacuations and burned through 4,500 acres near sedona. and more than 3,000 others have been told to prepare to leave. vacationers heading to the popular recreation area for the( memorial day weekend are being turned away. and hundreds of homes are in danger. >> it's a difficult fire to catch when you have wind-driven and very, very steep terrain. that's why we have 15 hot shot crews on order because it's only the boots on the ground that ca get a fire line all the way up and around this stuff. >> about 500 firefighters are battling the fire this morning, with more on the way. officials say the fire was likely human caused. we are live in arizona on "good morning america." also breaking overnightx0n incredible story from california. a young woman who was kidnapped at 15 has been rescued after ten years of captivity. >> police say she was abducted by her mother's boyfriend shortly after moving to santa ana from mexico. 42-year-old isidro garcia was arrested when the woman found her sister on facebook.

he's accused of repeatedly raping her and brainwashing her. the victim spoke exclusively with our abc station in l.a., with her mom by her side. >> i'm so happy and privileged to be back with my family. that's i want all the time. all the time i pray for her. for them. more for my mom and my sisters. i want to finish this all the time. but i can't do it. i was really afraid about everything because i was alone. i think i was alone. but i never was. my family was with me. >> police say garcia severely beat the victim when she tried to escape. he allegedly changed her identity and married her. and she had a child for him two years ago. the president's point person on the v.a. health care investigation is in phoenix, today, to visit the hospital at the center of the scandal. rob nabors' high-profile visit comes after strong words from the president himself.

wave of anger to sally, back in phoenix. >> he's lying. and that's why i'm angry zv because, in fact, they're responsible for his death. >> reporter: still, the president vowing to fix whateveú is wrong at the v.a. jim avila, abc news, the white house.nb 80% of american troops are headed to africa -- 80 troops are headed to africa to help search for the kidnapped nigerian schoolgirls. the pentagon says half of them will make up the launch and recovery teams for a drone that's being used in that search. the other 40 are providing security for that team. no troops will be involved in any ground searches. and breaking news from china, where an apparent terror attack has killed dozens. the attack took place today in the capital of china's volatile northwestern region. the assailants plowed through crowds of shoppers on offroad vehicles and threw explosives. it is the deadliest attack in a series of violent incidents blamed on radical separatist muslims. and it comes just days before the 25th anniversary of the tiananmen square protests.

also breaking right now, there are new tensions in ukraine, with heavy artillery fire overnight in the country's eastern region. the shelling appeared to come from government positions and badly damaged homes and a restaurant. and we are learning about multiple people being killed during an attack at a military checkpoint. this new tension comes as president vladimir putin promised to withdraw troops from the region. an update on those young iranians arrested for posting their version of pharrell's hit song, "happy." the six men and women who bo9 appeared in the youtube video have now been released. ñ that she's back. in justifying the arrest, police called the video showing the unveiled women, vulgar. the iranian president and pharrell himself have expressed support for this group. also overnight, a small earthquake rattled central virginia, leaving behind some frayed nerves. the magnitude 3.2 quake was centered west of richmond. more than 1,100 reports of shaking were called in last night. no one was injured. the quake that damaged the

morning at surveillance video from a frightening pool accident in florida. watch the girl who is highlighted here.zv she approaches the railing. she grabs it. she gets paralyzed by electricity. the man sitting there eventually pulls her out. >> another child is still in the water for several more seconds until another man risks his life to drag her to safety. in all, three children were shocked. >> i was in the pool. and then, the metal railing -- i was swimming close to it and then, i felt the shock. >> 10-year-old diego, his 6-year-old sister and a 5-year-old girl spent four nights in the hospital. inspectors say they were shocked because the pool pump wasn't properly grounded. and when it malfunctioned, it electrified the water around it. >> that is scary. a joyride ended with a bang in texas, when a 10-year-old boy was behind the wheel. police say the boy took the keys to his grandfather's pickup truck and drove through several busy streets in tyler. he went for about a mile before pulling into a parking lot and crashing into a guardrail. two men who spotted him called police. and they captured it all on camera. >> get out. hey. hey.

get out of the car. get out. you're a kid. get out. >> he didn't know how to shut i mean, i don't see how he put it in reverse. they don't teach you that in school. >> man, oh, man. no one was hurt. no charges will be filed. >> get out. you're just a kid. i'm glad no one was hurt. two elementary school students in new york are accused of putting rat poison in their teacher's water. police say other students apparently witnessed the pair putting something into the teacher's water bottle at this school in brooklyn. well, a mother of one of the witnesses then called the school. and police got involved. that teacher is going to be okay. a member of the los angeles dodgers top farm team has been suspended for a bizarre fight ç with a teammate. the altercation happened tuesday. alex guerrero and catcher miguel olivo, had words on the mound during a pitching change. it continued in the dugout, where olivo bit guerrero's ear. olivo is now suspended. guerrero has undergone reconstructive surgery. he will be hospitalized for a few more days.
