the police chef is speaking up to calm an angry community head of an expected huge protest this weekend. katie marzullo is in the newsroom. >> a large march landed for sunday in salinas with protests expect thousands to turnout as the show against what they call police brutality. here is a portion of the amateur video leading to the shooting. officers are following the 44-year-old man down the street yelling commands at him and he is waving garden shears at them. an officer's taser malfunctioned and they fire. see the video has fueled citizen it rage. a when protest turned violent and someone was shot and killed by a civilian. demonstrators knew bricks and bottles and rocks at police. the salinas police chief is speaking out defending the officer. >> letting him walk around the corner to a more crowded street and it could have turned incredibly tragic. >> the man was obviously drunk.

>> memorial day weekend kicks off this summer travel season and here is a look at american airlines term natural at sfo with lots of people to catch the flight for the weekend. the travel season will be busy. people are spending money again. at sfo there is something you will want to keep in mind, a live picture with construction. the airport recently shut down two of the four runways. they doing maintenance work. officials at the airport say they do not think this will have a huge impact on travel. they have worked with the airs on issue to schedule around it but they strongly encourage you remember this for the summer travel and check with the airline. you will want to check pause we know about the san francisco fog which can impact flights. as far as the roads are concerns, good news there for the economy: aaa is projecting record travel, the second highest since the recession, second highest since 2005 and

a campaign fundraiser report shows how much each candidate has raised for the june 3 primary. the city councilman is leading the pack and raised $785,000. santa clara supervisor is not far behind raising $567,000, the most of all since march. vice mayor and city councilwoman round out the list with all candidates agreeing to an expenditure cap of just shy of $800,000. a senate committee will hold a vote over public access to a san mateo county beach. a senate appropriations committee takes up a bill sponsored by the peninsula lawmaker jerry hill to first the billionaire venture capitalist into a settlement. he owns a massive coastal track including a small access road that is the only land access to martin's beach. he says an old spanish land
