this is a live picture of the skyway, it is packed >> it is a mess out there. part of the problem is this. sky seven over repairs going on now on southbound 280 extension. crews are cutting a hole into the freeway to repair hinges, it may have broken over time. to do that work, caltrans shut down southbound 280 from king street to cesar chavez. a lot of people normally use to get out of san francisco. >> laura anthony is live in the middle of the gridlock heading before the toll plaza. laura anthony is live right now. >> reporter: we are just past powell street exit. you can see cars are trying to merge over from the right. this has been like this foremost

of the day. i'm not sure if it's 280 problem, one employee coming into work this afternoon told us it took him two hours to go from hellhood and richmond. i can tell you we're going well, we're up to 15 miles per hour, pretty good. you can see in front of me we're going to slow down again i guess best advice is if you're trying to head into san francisco, give yourself plenty of time plenty of patience. out over the richmond area, i believe you can see the traffic backed up for miles on interstate 80.

having to take a hong time to get in. abc7 employee took two hours to get in from hill top. we've been going like i say, before 5 and 10 miles per hour. back to you. carolyn? larry? >> if you're doing ten miles per hour you're going faster than i was. it's just a disaster. you can see fast track lanes are moving nicely. this is just bumper to bumper and progress. after metering lights you run into the various path of the bridge. >> taking a look at mcarthur maze you can see it's a small crawl east on 80. check out cars trying to make their way towards the bay

the holiday weekend i'll be back with details in just a few minutes. >> sandhya, thank you. >> take a look here. police asking for your help identifying this armed robbery suspect. he tried to rob a woman in the target store parking lot. it's possibly a chevy cavalier. he pointed a shotgun and demanded her purse she was able to keep the purse. he robbed a subway restaurant. >> not wearing a mask or vehicle, knowing most likely there was surveillance at both different businesses made him more of a desperate act. >> the suspect is believed to be in his 20s with a slim build, a mohawk, tattoo of a cross and another tattoo on his hand, wearing a black punisher tee shirt and green shorts.

if you have information contact the police. >> an amber alert remains in effect for a 2-year-old boy out of southern california. ed win vargas kidnapped this morning in los angeles. police believe he was taken by abraham vargas. the nissan minivan found empty in east los angeles. authorities believe he may be heading to mexico. >> police, firefighters and paramedics crawling all over a school campus. >> abc7 news has the story from oakland high. >> here is the scenario. there is a shooter on the loose and several victims. law enforcement needs to make the situation safe. crews need to help victims. this is all being acted out by volunteer high school students who don't need to be here. school isn't in session today iet seems like a good idea who

once a tropical depression in the pacific. it's now tropical storm amanda. winds 40 miles per hour. moving west northwest continuing until sunday as a category 1, watch what it does. it's starting to veer a little bit towards mexico coastline there by wednesday as a tropical storm we'll have to keep an eye on this. if you have travel plans heading to the west coast of mexico you'll want to keep an eye on it as well. tomorrow morning low to mid-50s. and for afternoon, it's go to being a nice, warm one in the south bay. 82 los gatos. 76 cupertino. 70 degrees in santa cruz. 74 redwood city. coast will remain in the fog. 61 pacifica. sunset district. 67 downtown. and north bay, 60s coast side.

sky 7 over holiday get away traffic now. it's very slow going. you can see drivers just coming out of the metering lights there and on to bay bridge. part of the problem is the closure of part of southbound 280. extension from king street to cesar chavez street. so thousands are getting on 101 to leave the city. that is backing up traffic. there is laura anthony driving in that gridlock. we'll check back with laura live at 5:00 >> it's brutal just about every direction. >> yes. >> efforts to slow down gentrification by the mission are being celebrated today.
