>> good morning, everyone, i'm katie marzullo. we will start off with a quick look at your weather for the holiday weekend. >> good morning, katie. time is everything. warm right through the weekend in most areas but not the entire weekend. live doppler 7hd shows we have a little fog at the coast but otherwise it is a clear start and from our sutro tower camera you see some of the rain at 1,000 feet. but the sun is up and it doesn't set until well after 8:00 bringing us over 14 hours of day light. 59 in concord. numbers a. >> milder this morning. low 50s napa and santa rosa. for the rest of the day we enjoy mainly 70s and 80s. at the coast in san francisco temperatures will be in the

50s. upper 50s and sunny downtown. winds at times could gust to near 30 miles an hour at the shoreline. otherwise mid-to upper 80s today in some of our inland valleys and around the bay upper 60s to the upper 70s. certainly warming up, compliments of northeast winds and northerly winds wiping the fog out all together. i'll have a look at that coming up. we have developing news from milbrae. a big rig overturned and a man is in the hospital. it happened at the on ramp. the truck overturned spilling produce across the roadway. the driver was trapped in said the vehicle. cues had to us another jaws of life to free him. he was taken to the hospital. we don't have any word on his condition right now. there were no other vehicles involved, but the east milbrae avenue on ramp is still blocked to traffic right now. developing news to the east bay

where one person is dead after a police pursuit ended in a crash near the san leandro oakland border. it happened before 9:00 last night. police say a man suspected of a robbing a radio shack got into a vehicle and took off. officer gave chase but lost time. but a short time later they spotted the vehicle when it crashed into a building on san leandro street. the man and a passenger were thrown from the car and the woman died at the scene. seven people are dead and at least seven other injured in a drive-by shooting in santa barbara. seven people were killed and seven more injured. it happened around 9:30 last night in island vista near the campus. the santa barbara county sheriff said one of the dead is the attacker who was driving a vehicle. he exchanged gunfire with deputies before crashing into a parked car. it was not clear if he was shot by deputies or if his wounds were self-inflicted. authorities have not officially

identified the suspected shooter but a youtube video is circulating that some believe is him. it's entitled retribution and shows a young man ranting for about 7 minutes and punishing women for rejecting him. heads-up on that one. ahead for drivers in san francisco, a major thoroughfare out of the city is shut down and will be throughout the memorial day holiday weekend. southbound highway 280 closed on thursday and will remain closed until tuesday morning. abc7 news reporter sergio has impact the closer is already having on drivers. >> with 280 southbound shut down this holiday weekend, giants fans were met with a change in options to head south after the game. >> are you worried about getting out of here? >> no, no. just take our time, it will be fine. a long route home. no big deal. >> southbound 280 on-ramp at king street, sixth street and brandon and mariposa are closed until tuesday morning. that means all drivers heading

toward the peninsula out of downtown will have to navigate to highway 101 on-ramp at harrison and fourth street, harrison and seventh street, the tenth street on-ramp and cesar chavez. at rush-hour traffic crept along as driver's had no other option except to squeeze on to an already business path. it was a packed 101 south. >> traffic is more inland east bay. i'm trying to deliver my client to wherever she needs to go and not doing well. >> how is traffic? >> very bad. i only work on second and harrison and i've been in the car 45 minutes. >> and sky 7hd you can see construction on a section of 280 south as they perform seismo-retrofits. at sunset a rare view of the 280 freeing with only one direction of traffic flowing. this will continue through the extended weekend until 5:00 a.m. tuesday morning. in san francisco, abc7 news. if you are heading to a giants game this weekend here's an alternative route. this is leaving the city from

the ballpark area. take third street to harrison and get on to southbound 80 at harrison and fourth. that turns into highway 101 which reconnects with 280 further south. a man suspended of a brutal home invasion in the east bay is now being connected to another violent crime. stanley sherman, junior was arrested on suspicion of four home break-ins in fremont and redwood city. in one of them sherman and three others tied up a mother in front of her two young children before ransacking the home. he is now suspected in another home invasion robbery in sunnyvale. that was on may 12th in which the gun went off during the struggle. fremont police wanting to high-tech to help fight crime. next month the department will ask the city council to approve community-based surveillance cameras and license plate readers. police want as many as a dozen installed at key entry and exit points along the city's borders. residents can comment on it through the city's website.

a 62-year-old woman who repeatedly tried to sneak on to flights at sfo has been diagnosed with a major depressive order. yesterday marilyn hartman was sentenced to probation and ordered to undergo supervised psychiatric treatment. hartmann had tried to sneak on to flights to hawaii on three planes in february and trial -- actually made it on to a plane once but was discovered before takeoff. an amber alert remains in in effect for a two-year-old boy out of southern california. he was kidnapped yesterday around 6:30 in los angeles. they believe he was taken by abraham vargas. the nissan mini man believed to be stolen by vargas was found empty in east l.a. authorities believe vargas may be heading to mexico. an oakland group has collected more than 33,000 signatures in an effort to raise the minimum wage. they turned in the signatures yesterday to the city clerk. they began collecting them in february.

the goal is to raise city's minimum wage from eight dollars to $12.25 cents an hour and to get the initiative on the november ballot. the city has 30 days to verify the signature. a mad dash for hidden cash continued overnight. lucky people all over the bay area are finding money left by a mysterious benefactor in an unexpected high-tech treasure hunt. the stashes of cash v been found all over san francisco and oakland. there's a map showing some of the spots. abc7 news anchor ama daetz has details. >> hidden cash is the twitter handle that has people talking about in the bay >> someone is leaving cash on the streets of san francisco and oakland. a reward to anyone who can figure out the location of the money from a tweeted clue. this woman saw one of the clues. it showed classes at three places. >> one was by the bike rack and i knew exactly where it was or they were gone or the bill gone.

i saw the container here and i thought that looks familiar and i looked here and found it. >> he already has plans for the money if he found it had. >> i would donate to ace cycles. they are one of my favorite causes. the san francisco a's foundation. >> he donated the $20 to samantha aims' fundraising effort. she'll be cycling from san francisco to l.a. but her bike was stolen. i got to tell her about his generosity. >> oh, my god, that's incredible! i had no idea that it happened! i'm so honored he would have contributed to this with his money if he found it. wonderful thing to do to restores by faith in are other humanity. >> for now the do-gooder remains a mystery but anybody one day they will reveal their identity. abc7 news. privacy advocates are praising a change made by facebook. new users will have their privacy settings default to friends.

and also hide posts from the public. facebook also added a privacy checkup feature. you make a public post, a dinosaur should pop up asking you if you really want to do this. privacy advocates have been critical of facebook for years over how they handle private data. >> a newborn seal is safe of a a rescue. this is a harbor seal stolen off a beach near carmel. a family snatched the pup off the beach and took off. and volunteers from the volunteers mammal center chased him down, eventually getting the family to give them the seal. the family drove off but could face charges for taking the mammal off the beach illegally. he is now at a center in sausalito where he is doing well. fire inspections get underway in oakland hills. the annual inspections are used to make sure there is enough defensive space around homes in case of a wildfire.

firefighters say it is especially important this year as we head into what could be the worse fire season in california history. >> weeds and grasses cut to six inches or less and maintained at that level. any brush or debris that's cut has to be removed from the property, not stored. it's just those kind of common practices that allow our firefighters the opportunity to protect the home in the event of a fire. >> the fire path that paid for this, including the program was defeated by voters last november. fire prevention crews say they are trying to stretch the remaining funds as far as possible this summer. >> well we can't make it rain -- >> well, we are looking at the fog. it is playing a big role throughout the weekend. you can't see it here but you can see it kind of. we are looking at temperatures in the 50s. and a few 60s around the bay.

>> i have to get water and i had to take a shower, i was drinking water. kind of scary. >> investigators are trying to find the cause of the contamination. >> the public access to march continues beach will now head to the state cincinnati. the cincinnati appropriations committee approved a bill yesterday that would force a billionaire venture can't lift into a settlement. he includes the property that has the only access to martin beach. he said an old spanish land grant gives him the right to do that. if it passes, they can seize part of his land under imminent domain to regain public access. >> huge crowds expected in santa cruz this weekend but if you want to go, be warned, don't go into the water at cal beach. it was just ranked the most polluted in california. >> picture perfect unless you are under a microscope.

>> it starts here at the lagoon. last year they found a pipe dumping raw sewage from a home straight into the water by runs out this storage area and on to the sand. that was fixed but it still contaminates a portion of cal beach. >> it is disappointing. it's something we've been dealing with for several years and we continue to deal with. >> locals have firsthand knowledge of the danger. >> ear infections are the most common thing and that's happened a few times in the past. >> despite the occasional ear ache, you will find jim here several times a week. >> you try not to swallow. >> don't expect to see this sacramento family back for a visit. they came and kathleen was horrified to learn it was ranked the most polluted in california. that was cal beach. >> i'm not quite sure, i don't within my 8 1/2-year-old in the

beach. >> they moved 20 minutes down shore. >> i'm so happy we are moving to another beach. i don't know that the water is so much different somewhere else but it does make me feel better. >> an easy fix for them. not as easy a solution for the city. santa cruz has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to mitigate the problem and recently installed flag gates to stop the lagoon leakage. perhaps next year this stretch of surf and sand will not be known as a bummer beach. in santa cruz, abc7 news. >> doesn't make you want to run out and hop in the water but it is a holiday weekend. are you ready for the beach? >> it will be winky and cool. fog for most of the day but then it warms up up tomorrow. we will see numbers in the 60s at the shoreline. temperatures will be responding to the ridge of high pressure that builds in. we have some cloud cover along

the coast, mainly south of the city. we have 14 hours 20 minutes of day light today. we will look for the clearing conditions throughout the day today. here's a look from the east bay hills camera and the marine layer there for you with much of the east bay, all of the east bay in the sunshine. a little hazy. temperatures ranging from the low 50s in the city. 52 half moon bay with fog. has been suppose 56. good morning to you. and from santa cruz it looks pretty quiet. itit will be, of course, a busy weekend with temperatures near 70 today. livermore 57. for concord 59. you will be well into the 80s today in our east bay valleys and out by the delta the winds are breezy, allowing temperatures to stay up to near 60. napa 63 and cool in santa rosa as well. but overall temperatures are warmer than they were this time yesterday in most locations of the east bay from concord to fairfield and looking at

slightly cooler numbers at the airport. overall san jose warming up today. you see a few high clouds here. coastal fog for some of you along the beaches. otherwise the summer spread today with numbers 60 to almost near 90 today and tomorrow the warmest day of the week with slightly cooler conditions from memorial day on monday. and the cooling trend gets underway for the rest of may. here's a look at the low. it's been with us all week long and it's still influencing the sierra nevada today. but high pressure building in off the coast and that will allow for the temperatures to continue to warmed to away from the shoreline. tomorrow the warmest day. but we are looking at the first hurricane of the pacific. now hurricane season started here may 15th and look at this system it continues to strengthen. and 65 mills and it will strengthen to a minimal hurricane. then as it gets farther into the pacific the cooler water weakens

quickly. if you have plans toward mexico, you want to keep that in mind. right now no watches and warnings along the coast of mexico. 78 in san jose today. look for 75 milpitas and sunnyvale. 61 half moon bay. 72 san mateo. starting out foggy and then we should look for clearing here. still cool. gusty winds. 67 in the city with 79 at the novato. a few 80s coming into play from calistoga to here. napa. and 73 union city and castro valley. 10 degrees of warming from our east bay shores to the mid-80s in concord. 83 walnut streak. 14 in livermore. 88 brentwood. the accuweather seven-day forecast with numbers warming tomorrow. it should be pretty nice and sunny from the coast inland. but keeping fire danger hopefully at, you know, average levels. we will continue to see the marine layer increase throughout the day on memorial day and the
