we have live team coverage of the aftermath starting with abc7 news live in ilsa vista. >> more students here, most say they have been returning from that extended three-day weekend. they have come to a more solemn place students saying they're uncomfortable here this, is the memorial. three young men stabbed to death were from san jose and fremont. this has been growing since yesterday. >> throughout the day, students and other members of the community placed flowers at growing memorial of the victims many just returned. that just made it real.

wong was one of the first victims investigators say rodgers stabbed. before attending fremont christian he was at american high school for a month. jim morris with the fremont unified school district. >> in the community like ours there are connections through events and that is what we need to be prepared for. >> counselling will be offered to students beginning tomorrow. >> the father of one of the other victims said he may spend his life trying to to stop the tragedies from occurring again. he talked to his only son less than hour before being shot and killed at the deli where he worked. martinez is blasting politicians, a very emotional

outburst. >> my kid dies because nobody responded to what occurred at sandy hook those parents lost little kids. it's bad enough i lost my 20-year-old. i had 20 years with my son. that is all i'll ever have. >> martinez lashes out against the national rifle association and he says he wants to meet with the father of the killer to work on preventing future tragedies. >> the father of a bay area victim survived said he hopes his son will be discharged from the hospital in the next day or two. he is recovering at a santa barbara hospital, he was in isla vista visiting a class mate when being hit by the car. both of his legs were broken. he underwent surgery over the weekend a friend says he's trying to focus on recovery. >> he is in much better

homeless the shelter forced to shut doors several years ago but now in a new place with same mission to, help down and out vets. abc7 news is live at the facility with the story. it's definitely needed. >> it is. and this is a place where these homeless veterans can rebuild their lives in this beautiful setting. now there are six acres on this property. 60,000 square feet. what a change. from the streets. there are barbecued hot links and chicken and trimmings here at homeless veterans housing residence now known as veterans housing of silicon valley. name and location may have changed but not makeup here, all once homeless. >> this program has given them home >> giving me opportunity to gain

strength and some direction. >> original facility closed two years ago. it was on veteran's administration property. the building was torn down because it was unsafe. 150 residents forced out. most of them moved to other facilities but many went back on the streets. marine corporal was one of them. >> i lived under a bridge. when reopening, i came here. >> it's embarrassing. it's hard to recover from that. >> this veteran lived in a car. now this is her home. a unit she shares with a roommate. >> it's a safe and clean environment. it's important. >> the promise made to his residents. goodwin wants a vet, founded the program and told residents he'd find another place he found this home, taking eight months and a quarter million dollars to renovate.
